All their ads against it focus how hard it is for voters to understand.
The people who oppose it will jerk off about how independent alaska is compared the rest of the us. Not understanding that this is a system that will strengthen that.
So that means they don’t need the same budget and we can use that money for socialized healthcare, free college education, and raising social security payments?
You know the ones who, at the same time, want to pay people to “support boomers” a non-livable wage are many of the same ones who need the boomers’ vote to stay in power… Something tells me the solution to both problems is in there… 🤷🏼♂️
I read an interview in the Democrat-Gazette with the daughter of Ms. Taylor, one of the victims. There are no words to describe how awful it must be to have one of your friends or family members just minding their own business only to be shot to death while checking out at the grocery store.
Ms. Taylor’s daughter expressed frustrations that she wasn’t there because she thought she could have done something, implying that she would have shot the assailant. In her defense, the woman’s grieving and people who are in that state tend to think and say all kinds of stuff.
But here’s the thing, the “good guy with a gun” mantra is idealistic at best. Even if you are a “good guy” with a gun, odds are that by the time you can even respond, the “bad guy” has already killed someone. Not to mention that in that very panic filled moment, there’s a much higher chance that you might accidentally shoot another bystander.
“Good guy with a gun” is not a solution to “bad guy with a gun” because no amount of bullets fired by “good guys” will bring back the people who are already dead.
Good guy with a gun only works in Hollywood. In real life, the cops are going to shoot the good guy with a gun because he’s at an active shooting scene and he’s holding a gun. The math, like most cops, is really pretty simple.
As we learned during COVID, ‘enthusiast’ is not the same as ‘expert’. This guy failed by-the-numbers and the only thing that saved him from being big-cat food was dumb luck. Good luck with the Lyme disease.
There’s a shocking number of people who will just go off into the woods with their clothes and a phone.
I went hiking with a date once who expected to be fine walking a ten mile trail with no water bottle. Some people have no real world experience of how much water you need when you’re exerting yourself for hours on end.
When I was younger, we used to go out to that same area, smoke a ton of weed, and try to get lost. It was awesome. Sometimes we’d be turned around for hours.
The article doesn’t even bring it up, but I have to wonder how many of those suicides, considering how many of them are working construction in the U.S., are people here illegally who realize it’s either that or get deported to wherever country they were in where they had to flee the death squads…
You bring up a good point. They’re absolutely underreporting their suicides. This part below also has a huge factor in whether they seek help…
But Niles said there is an industry culture that discourages many from asking for help and a fear that showing any perceived weakness could jeopardize their job prospects.
That’s an interesting thought. They flee here seeking safety and a better life, only to find a large portion of the country very hostile towards you and your fellow immigrants. Finding decent paying work is very difficult, but at least construction is typically in high demand in many larger metros. You hate the job and would rather be a teacher, IT professional, nurse, or whatever but can’t due to being an undocumented worker. I can easily see that causing a strong sense of feeling trapped and hopeless.
Some of those watch parties will be hosted by social media content creators — to whom the campaign says it will grant access to the post-debate spin room, a place usually reserved for credentialed media.
Only if you 100% agree with Biden and never say he does anything less than perfectly tho…
“I have noticed that there have been a lot more events with creators, but the creators that are getting invited are the creators who are very pro-Biden and just parroting talking points or sharing photo ops of them smiling with the president. Not the creators who have been critical,” said Kahlil Greene, a history content creator and education advocate in Washington who said he hasn’t been invited to the White House since he criticized the administration over the TikTok ban and the war in Gaza.
Biden wants the appearance of support, but doesn’t want to do anything to actually get support. When a powerful person surrounds themselves with people who never criticize them, they start doing illogical things.
With all the crazy shit, we don’t need an illogical president right now, even if the alternative is bat shit insane it doesn’t magically lower the qualifications.
You are correct. The Biden campaign wants complete loyalty for access. When questioned at an influencer event he literally said he would throw a guy’s phone when he questioned him.
