Holy shit!
"He died on April 3rd."
DOUBLE holy shit!

GunnarRunnar ,

Where does it say that? Article is dated for today and the quote says his team shared the news on Monday, which I presume they mean today.

ArugulaZ ,

That's what RodneyCK was saying.

Watching the PeeWee Herman Show special on HBO blew my mind as a young adult. What a talent, and stunted career in the end. We loved you Paul.

Wild man. I remember watching Pee-wee’s Playhouse as a kid on those Saturday mornings oh so long ago. youtu.be/UsmFg7CD1Pg

Reubens created a lot of joy in the world, he will be missed.

unwellsnail , in July keeps sizzling as Phoenix hits another 110-degree day and wildfires spread in California

It’s always so frustrating to see the same jokes and snark about Phoenix because most people will just accept that at face value, laugh, and move on. Phoenix gets hot, yea, but not like this otherwise it wouldn’t be newsworthy.

The summers bring heat but also usually rains, monsoons actually. They punctuate the stretches of heat bringing cooler temps and much needed relief. These usually start in June and occur regularly for the duration of summer but haven’t this year. People have lived in the area for thousands of years, this is abnormal and not as simple as “people live in hot area and complain about heat”.

Cold_Brew_Enema , in Actor Paul Reubens, of PeeWee Herman fame, dead at 70

Can’t believe he was 70. RIP. Big part of my 90s childhood.

MyNameIsIgglePiggle ,

Fun fact, if you add 33 to the age someone was in 1990, you get their age now.

InverseParallax , in Illegal medical lab containing bioengineered mice and infectious agents including HIV and herpes discovered in California

I’m REALLY not trying to deaden the conspiracy-ness of this article…

But during covid we basically let a lot of research protocols and testing slack on the protocols:

www.hhs.gov/ohrp/…/index.html

fda.gov/…/exception-informed-consent-requirements…

I haven’t seen a protocol exception on sourcing research subjects, but I’m sure one was in place during covid, and I will bet real money these clowns were selling test mice, their paperwork was in faded crayon, they got paid 100x the normal prices, and unlike everyone else they just were too stupid to shut down and get out while the getting was good.

Here’s a link to CBS News that isn’t paywalled.

Yellow has been a horribly managed mess for at least 25 years. I was involved in LTL logistics back then and we avoided those dunderheads like the plague. It’s a shame that they’re taking $500 MIllion of taxpayer money with them since they can’t repay their loan but that company should have died years ago.

People just have different tolerance for how much death is caused by their own existence, your gonna kill something regardless to survive, that is life. I am not really to judge, especially a culture that I have very little interaction with.

Butters , in ‘I’m not wanted’: Florida universities hit by brain drain as academics flee
@Butters@lemmywinks.com avatar

A lot of people on this thread are saying the consequences of these policies is intentional.

I don’t give them that much credit. I don’t think they fully understand the consequences of these policies. And as things go to shit, they will just blame liberals.

And this is all really sad. There are some really nice parts of Florida, with some really nice people. Fucking sucks. Oh well.

SpikesOtherDog ,

I passed this comment up and considered it. Many conservatives dearly believe that children are brainwashed by colleges and that there is no reason for higher education.

Couple this with anti science and hate for any art that offends people, and I’m having a hard time believing that harming higher education is NOT a goal.

Rodeo ,

I’m convinced these types of arguments are from republicans trying to garner sympathy for the poor stupid people, how could they have known! See they’re really not that bad guys, they just don’t know any better!

Such bullshit and really the most pathetic kind of excuse.

PRUSSIA_x86 ,

As someone who has lived their whole life around these people, I can assure you many of them really have drunk the kool-aid. It’s honestly all quite sad, and has cost me a number of friendships.

drewofdoom ,

It’s even more sinister than that. An uneducated populace is good for the ruling class. They have more children on average and will believe the lies more willingly.

The Republican party has been trying to destroy the education system for decades. Not only do they not want the poors getting educated (more malleable labor), they want to privatize education (vouchers, divert more public money to private hands).

PsychedSy ,

With the oversight and tenure changes I think it was unintentional.

reallynotnick , in Actor Paul Reubens, of PeeWee Herman fame, dead at 70

Man either the guy really thought he was going to beat this or he just needed a reason to hang on: “…he recently penned the first draft of his upcoming memoir. He had also put the finishing touches on two more Pee-wee movie scripts and was developing projects for television, including a variety show and a western called Fancypants.”

Shame those won’t see the light of day, at least not with his further involvement of course. That sounds like a ton of work. Source: yahoo.com/…/paul-reubens-best-known-pee-170902189…

Maybe Johnny Depp will play Pee-wee if those movies ever get made. (Depp was Reubens' pick to replace him.)

ericisshort ,

I really really really don’t want anyone else to play Pee-wee.

RagingRobot ,

I’d be angry I think. There is only one pee wee

ericisshort ,

Exactly. I’ve never seen a spot on Pee-Wee impression. Some people can get the voice, but they never get the ever-changing facial expressions right.
