Onfire , in A Trooper Issued More than 1,000 Fake Tickets. Connecticut Police Won’t Say Whether He Still Has a Job

I have been to a few union jobs. I don’t like unions. I hate some of the folks there. They can’t be fired unless they do something really stupid. So most end up doing bare minimum.

Onfire , in The temperature in China hit 52.2°C (126°F)

Yeah, people are not going to stop taking vacations and stop consuming as they have been. Those who calling to do something, I bet they can’t even downsize their lifestyle. Let’s talk about co2 per capita. Let’s talk about Americans with 2+ cars n bigger cars. Let’s talk about food waste in America. America is probably one of the most wasteful country on this planet.

I am a hard-core green dude. Been at for about 15 years ago. Kind of gave up couple years ago. Not worth making my life inconvenient when the whole country doesn’t do jqcksht about it.

wholeofthemoon ,

Do you really think this issue lies with the consumer lol

Onfire ,

I get this comment a lot. A way to make yourself feel better? I know who you going to blame next, the big corps? Remember who they selling to. You! So yes, consumers are to blame. When Joe wants a bigger truck when he can get a prius or take the public transit, guess who’s to blame? Fighting climate change is all about inconvenience. Yall can’t handle the inconvenience and cost of a greener lifestyle. It’s much more convince to blame the government, the big corps, and the rich.

Sightline ,

Consumers are partially to blame but remember corporations brainwash the living shit out of people. They’ve effectively stomped out the last bit of hope we had. Go to any YouTube video that mentions a “heat wave” and you’ll see what I’m talking about in the comment section.

ParsnipWitch ,

The consumers are who these companies sell to. The normal people drive cars, buy plastic, eat meat and dairy, produce unnecessary waste. Of course consumers have a huge responsibility in this.

figaro ,

It is pretty depressing, I agree. You can take heart however in knowing that collectively, we as people cannot do very much. The best thing we can do is elect politicians who will put pressure on the real villains here: the 100 or so corporations that make up 70% of the total Co2 emissions.

worldatlas.com/…/the-10-biggest-carbon-dioxide-em…

ParsnipWitch ,

Who do you believe consumes all the oil 9 out of the 10 of these companies in your list produce?

figaro ,

Everyone. I am very aware of that. But you can’t expect the whole world to just change from the individual up - it isn’t realistic, because the current state of our civilization requires it. Going around making people feel guilty about using a gas powered car is not helping anything, if anything it hurts the movement because we could come off as assholes, and then no one listens us. People have to like you if you are going to convince anyone of anything.

The only real, substantial thing we can do is get people to elect progressives at this point. That or start disrupting the actions of these companies in any way possible. Telling my parents not to go on vacation though? They’ll think I’ve been brainwashed by AOC and go even further into their trench.

For the record though, I’m not trying to be angry - kudos to you for being conscientious of your impact on the environment and your passion for getting the word out about it.

ThatGirlKylie , in Typo sends millions of US military emails to Russian ally Mali

I’m confused, so he identifies this problem ten years ago but only just now raised an alarm as his contract was due to be up on Monday?

According to the Financial Times, which first reported the story, Dutch internet entrepreneur Johannes Zuurbier identified the problem more than 10 years ago.

Since 2013, he has had a contract to manage Mali’s country domain and, in recent months, has reportedly collected tens of thousands of misdirected emails.

None were marked as classified, but, according to the newspaper, they included medical data, maps of US military facilities, financial records and the planning documents for official trips as well as some diplomatic messages.

Mr Zuurbier wrote a letter to US officials this month to raise the alarm. He said that his contract with the Mali government was due to finish soon, meaning “the risk is real and could be exploited by adversaries of the US”.

Mali’s military government was due to take control of the domain on Monday.

Uhhh he won’t even give his own Texans water breaks. We expect him to show any compassion to kids and babies? This is basically “tell my guys to kill kids and babies without saying kill kids and babies.”

I’m a little confused about a comment in the article that says the Mali military will be taking over the .ml domain on Monday. Is the country of Mali going to start using a different domain next week?

ThatGirlKylie ,

I read it as the military is taking it over and controlling the internet/domain over there and not that .ml will only be for mali military.

Going straight to Goodwin’s Law, this really does remind me of behavior from soldiers during WWII. I don’t know how anyone can do this to other human beings.

We’ll say it again, for the people in the back: it doesn’t matter whether you believe in potentially lethal threats or not.

They’ll still kill you. And if you ignore them and pretend they don’t exist, they’ll usually kill you much, much faster than if you were actively trying to mitigate them.

Lemmings_together_strong , in Typo sends millions of US military emails to Russian ally Mali

Why the military doesn’t filter emails being sent to an unfriendly foreign nation is beyond me. My company would restrict my account if I began emailing a random .ml domain with attatchments.

venusenvy47 , (edited )

I’m assuming this doesn’t involve intra-military emails, because that would be trivial to prevent. It’s probably because of people sending from another domain. Like if [email protected] is sending an email to [email protected], but he mistypes the .mil part because he is using his iPhone while riding his motorcycle with a girl on the back.

A more realistic example would be [email protected] sending an email to [email protected] to discuss some upcoming meeting about a new aircraft contract.

Tell me again why we can’t tax carbon emissions or build nuclear power plants.

I’m entering middle age and I am getting tired of hitting this climate wall that we all clearly saw back in the 90s. Al Gore even published a book about it, although his anti-nuclear stance makes him one of the bad guys when it comes to climate change.

We are going to hit 3 degrees warming at this pace.
