There only being that one playbook is the exact reason why I have a patch on my backpack that reads: "Evil is boring"

Chetzemoka ,

"Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.
—Exodus 23:9 (NIV)"

I hope you don't call yourself a Christian.

Chetzemoka ,

Well, I guess at least you're just a bigot and not also a hypocrite.

Exclusive: Satellite images show increased activity at nuclear test sites in Russia, China and US (www.cnn.com)

Russia, the United States and China have all built new facilities and dug new tunnels at their nuclear test sites in recent years, satellite images obtained exclusively by CNN show, at a time when tensions between the three major nuclear powers have risen to their highest in decades....

We have to pay for the services we use somehow. I'd rather it be cash than the details of my entire life. But the money to operate those services has to come from somewhere

Chetzemoka ,

As I literally sit here in the cafeteria on my day off rallying for our upcoming union vote 💪

Chetzemoka ,

If by "quitting" you mean we all die, I think you just might be right.

Chetzemoka ,

We'll get there in our time, friend.

Chetzemoka ,

Ok, that was subtle. Well-played and thanks for explaining

Chetzemoka ,

Anticipation of surge? We're already on the downslope of a recent tiny surge up here in the Boston area:

https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm

Chetzemoka ,

Oof, yeah. It'll be time to break out my N95s again

Chetzemoka ,

Herd animals gonna herd animal ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Chetzemoka ,

Agreed wholeheartedly. That said, Oppenheimer is officially the only biopic I've ever watched twice and will definitely watch again someday. Which makes it my favorite biopic, for whatever that is worth about a genre that I loathe.

Unity issue an apology on Twitter for "confusion and angst" over the runtime fee policy. (nitter.net)

We have heard you. We apologize for the confusion and angst the runtime fee policy we announced on Tuesday caused. We are listening, talking to our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes to the policy. We will share an update in a couple of days. Thank you for your honest and critical...

Chetzemoka ,

They're game devs, not an acquisition and mergers team. "We signed contract to do business with xyz terms" should be plenty reliable enough for conducting business. Not "Lol, whut? You didn't read the fine print? Psyche! We're changing everything."

Unity deserve to get sued into oblivion for this

Chetzemoka ,

You have to wonder if we aren't just confirming what the Great Filter is. There may not be any space faring civilizations.

Chetzemoka ,

I don't understand what you mean. We solved sexism and racism, didn't you hear? These are no longer problems that actually exist in the world and we're all just whining about nothing.

Engadget | The future of decentralized social media (youtu.be)

While it is unclear whether Meta’s new Twitter clone, Threads, will provide a viable alternative to X, it undoubtedly has the potential to make significant waves in the realm of social media. While massive changes aren’t slated to come immediately to the app, Threads is likely to join the ever-growing list of apps on the...

Maybe let's try focusing on content and not personal characteristics of the presenters:

I'm way more annoyed by that terrible echoey microphone

Chetzemoka ,

"Overwhelmingly, we’re seeing these challenges come from organized censorship groups that target local library board meetings to demand removal of a long list of books they share on social media."

Maybe you should try reading sometime.

Chetzemoka ,

Yeah I have no idea how this was arranged, but it's a very cool thing to have happened. God bless Mo and his family.

Chetzemoka ,

"We need to see pain in the economy"

"There's been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them"

"claimed that shift is hitting productivity in the sector"

This attitude is an actual mental illness. Productivity is killing us, killing our climate. What we need is LESS PRODUCTIVITY and more leisure, more time to care for one another, focus on food production, distribution, healthcare, and education, things that involve taking care of other humans. Why should everyone everywhere forever have to live on the razor's edge of their ability to keep up with life?

Chetzemoka ,

We need to end the habit of prioritizing things based on whether or not they are "productive." It's ok to be unproductive. It's ok to be lazy and fuck around and socialize and just generally hang out helping people.

Sorry, this is a particularly sensitive issue for me right now where our Chief Nursing Officer acts like if we have time to have any conversation with our colleagues, then that means we have enough time to manage one more patient. When the fuck did being able to have a little downtime at work become such a terrible offense?

(Yes, we're unionizing. Because absolutely fuck this mentality.)

The End of Roe Is Having a Chilling Effect on Pregnancy (www.politico.com)

Polling conducted in August by All In Together, in partnership with polling firm Echelon Insights found that 34 percent of women aged 18-39 said they or someone they know personally has “decided not to get pregnant due to concerns about managing pregnancy-related medical emergencies.” Put another way, poor or unavailable...

Chetzemoka ,

"Women are specifically stating that the direct reason they're choosing to delay pregnancy is the fall of Roe creating emergency health concerns."

"I dunno, are you sure you can believe what women say? Did you check the "real" data?"

Chetzemoka ,

"The truth is you love censorship, and so does everyone else. The only question is whether you’re ready to admit it."

Preach. I hate the shit, it makes me feel shaky, but god damn does it work.

Chetzemoka ,

The irony that phenylephrine intravenous is actually effective at maintaining blood pressure in people who are trying real hard to die on ya. (Our ICU uses it sometimes.)

https://www.lhsc.on.ca/critical-care-trauma-centre/phenylephrine-neosynephrine

Chetzemoka ,

This is why antimaskers are extra fucking dumb. We were always fairly certain all the cardiac effects we've seen in people right after a Covid infection were because of the virus, but they chose to go out there and throw themselves in front of the train anyway.

Chetzemoka ,

These women have valid fears of risking their careers by speaking up, but go off I guess

Chetzemoka ,

That's a nice looking Nebelung you got there. They're such beautiful cats

Chetzemoka ,

Am nurse. Can confirm. Scrubs is right about a LOT of things

Chetzemoka ,

How dare you! I would NEVER!!

(Unwanted cookies on the other hand, fair game ¯_(ツ)_/¯)

Chetzemoka ,

They think they do. No amount of money will protect a person from the collapse of a civilization. Never has, never will. Their plans are very much predicated on the assumption that markets will somehow magically continue to function after the general populace has lost all faith in them

Chetzemoka ,

They can buy themselves a few years at best without a functioning supply chain. We all depend on society, no matter how much they like to deny it

Chetzemoka ,

Their content promotion algorithms are not protected by section 230. Those algorithms are the real problem, pushing more and more radical content onto vulnerable minds. (The alt-right YouTube pipeline is pretty well documented. Reddit, I think, less so. But they still promote "similar content")

Chetzemoka ,

It's a rather bizarre argument, essentially saying "it's not the whole solution so it's not a solution at all"

Lawdamercy, can you please say it louder for the people in the back whinging that they refuse to vote for Biden because his Climate Bill wasn't perfectly everything all at once? In the face of the Republican denialist obstructionism, it's pretty fucking miraculous. The ultimate solution to climate change is going to be a patchwork quilt of a million different tiny solutions

Chetzemoka ,

I always struggled to imagine what dodos must have looked like irl until I saw these things. They almost look make-believe! Happy to see them reintroduced.

Chetzemoka ,

This was not a good year for me to pick up Kim Stanley Robinson's "Ministry of the Future" book

Chetzemoka ,

"Unions make people lazy" "Unions make people less creative, less likely to work to fix problems" "Unions make employees fight with each other" "Unions mean we'll earn less money"

The propaganda I've heard from older generations is really incredible. We're still actively unionizing lol

Chetzemoka ,

Why is less productivity a horrible thing? Why is wanting a good wage for just showing up and doing your normal job a bad thing? Why is having no interest in moving into management so atrocious?

It's way past time to start questioning American work culture. I shouldn't be expected to be operating at the razor's edge of my ability to keep up with everything constantly and forever for the rest of my life. I just want to punch a clock, do my job, and also be able to afford my mortgage for having done that and nothing more.

Chetzemoka ,

Here's a crazy radical idea: Wealth does not improve people beyond a certain point. Leisure time and lack of stress improve people. The American culture of work yourself to death to accumulate is killing us and it's killing the world. It's time to stop.

Work, make enough money to provide, have plenty of leisure time to relax and spend with your family. Those are the lives we should be striving for.

Chetzemoka ,

Have fun killing yourselves for other people's profit, I guess? I'm joining a union.

Chetzemoka ,

AirBNB was great back when it was just a viable means for finding a room in someone's house to crash for a few days. Then the profiteers found it and AirBNB sacrificed their entire reputation for short-sighted greed. Add with everything in the past 20 years

Chetzemoka ,

Are you fucking kidding me with this racist shit?

Chetzemoka ,

"nuke the unevolved savage freaks" is the most blatant example of standard issue online "it's ok to say racist things about Indians" I have ever seen. I have no idea how anyone in 2023 could not have a single brain cell to make them rethink a statement like that before clicking the comment button.

Chetzemoka ,

"WE HAVE THE WORST GENETICS"

Holy SHIT, my dude. You need to take a SERIOUS step back and question the eugenicist colonial bullshit you've internalized. I would advise taking a look at Swami Vivekananda's assessments of India and Indian people.

Chetzemoka ,

Vivekananda is one of the most brilliant minds in modern India, contemporary with Gandhi, and only less well known because he died so young.

And "what that is" is that you've blindly accepted outsiders' racist assessments of your people. You really need to question that shit:

https://keywordsechoes.com/decolonizing-the-mind

Chetzemoka ,

Also fascinating to watch so many self-proclaimed "leftists" parrot Fox News talking points. I swear I think some of these people want the fascists to win so they can get their chance to cosplay revolutionary.

Zero acknowledgement that every revolution in history has violently decimated the working class and only replaced one power hierarchy with another. Oh, but their revolution is gonna be totally different...

Chetzemoka ,

If you remove the capital letters, "the first lady" got Covid could imply that only men have gotten it up to this point

Chetzemoka ,

Except no one pushed for business as usual? Quarantines and higher level pandemic interventions are not appropriate for an endemic infection. We should be vaccinating and masking when there's an increase in Covid infections. But we should also be doing that for influenza and we don't.

I'm not arguing semantics. Pandemic vs. endemic is a factual epidemiological definition. The problem is that we routinely choose not to deal with dangerous endemic infections like influenza. We should always have been doing more.
