I see you posted this article to 3 communities. According to the comments on this post if you use the cross post function (in the default web frontend), it will only show once in the feeds instead of 3 times (which can be a bit annoying).
The thing is though, just today I saw in another group someone complaining that someone had posting an article to multiple groups…but it was the only time I had seen it. Another commenter mentioned how not everyone is in the same groups, and not everyone is seeing something multiple times. You might be in all those groups, but there will be folks like I was this morning who’s only following one of them and one sees one.
And the point is moot anyway because I can’t exactly use lemmy’s cross posting feature if I’m on kbin.
My bad, I didn’t realize you were from Kbin. I don’t know how it works there.
Another commenter mentioned how not everyone is in the same groups, and not crime is seeing something multiple times.
Sure, I don’t complain about sending the same post to multiple communities. On the contrary, I encourage it! And thanks for generating content, that helps all of us.
I was just trying to help with the cluttering of the feed.
It’s not generating content though - 4 copies of a link is the same content as 1 copy of the link. And because it’s in 4 places, the comment section of each is diluted.
We can agree in that it’s not generating 4 different posts. What I mean is that they are posting (more than zero posts) and I find that good for growing the fediverse.
because it’s in 4 places, the comment section of each is diluted.
AFAIK crossposting is not different in that regard (but maybe that’s not what you implied, or maybe I’m wrong).
Interesting take. Sorry that I can’t read all comments all the time, I do have a life you know. I like to think I will eventually read all comments, but if people would report comments, that would really help.
Yet you are still here arguing with me instead of doing your damn job you signed up for when you became a mod
You can ignore me and scroll down to find the stupid anti -bi shit any time you want. Or keep getting defensive and arguing with me to make yourself feel better. Your choice.
Could you give some examples, or are you just here to be angry? We try to walk the thread between deleting hatespeech and not censoring opinions. Sometimes we get it wrong, so do let us know if you think you know better.
Yet you’re here bootlicking lazy and ineffective mods on a server that allows alt-right bullshit as if it is, so I guess it must be
Go ask the mods if they’ll pay your rent this month for defending hate on their shitty platform. I’m sure your landlord will take their IOU scribbled in crayon
Moderation is always going to be a tricky game. People assume that any comments that aren’t deleted are therefore validated by mods, even when they can cover extremes that are very far apart. With a topic like this, the extreme ends are probably going to be people at one end who think anyone who doesn’t confirm to a ‘traditional’ sexuality is some kind of abomination, and at the other end folk who think the people saying the ‘abomination’ shit shouldn’t be allowed to participate. It’s gonna be very hard to moderate that without pissing at least some people off. Like I say, a tricky game - but just because some people are unhappy doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
Me, I’d say that unfortunately there are some extreme opinions out in the world and even when I don’t share them I don’t want to pretend they don’t exist. I’d rather have the opportunity to discuss them, dispute them, maybe try to change them. But open hate speech, threats, personal abuse, or advocacy of violence should be a definite no. Just IMO.
You need to relax. You are talking a lot about the proper way to moderate while actively breaking the rules in a community by being so hostile. Appreciate the irony of that for a second.
And for the record and my defense, before you accuse me of trying to defend the alt right or something, there are some shitty comments in this thread I wish would get removed. The jokes about sexual attraction to cookware are overdone, toxic, and annoying, and that is just the mild side of what was in this thread. The mods removing the outright hostility is a start, but letting gender and sexual minorities be the butt of the joke over and over is not a great way for a space to be
@Thekingoflorda if you are reading this consider removing those jokes.
If it was one I would agree with you. Several people saying it in several places in the thread though, reminds me of that “I identify as an attack helicopter”, which is more transphobic because of its being spammed by people with agendas than because of the explicit content. This seems like a similar, if less popular, kindof homophobic “meme”.
And yet they’re not doing anything about me, so what does that tell you about the quality of modding here, and by extension the quality of the instance?
.world is a shithole for this reason among many others, and it dominates every other instance because the admin of it is sympathetic to alt-right dipshits and the cultists are taking advantage of it. The mod of this sub themself probably doesn’t actually give a shit about the dumb hate shit other people are posting in the comments.
That I see are still here, and so does everyone else.
But go ahead and keep trying to save face by arguing with me instead of complaining to the mods about the hate crap like you ought to be doing. Or even better, if it’s that trivial to you, why don’t you mind your own business and go away? It’s not your job so why should you care, right?
I do, on my subs here on lemm.ee, which I joined specifically to get away from you stupid-ass bigoted clowns at .world, and you remind me of why I did.
My subs are quite splendid, by the way. Because I don’t allow bigots and actually enforce it. 😎 Have fun drowning in your own hate and incompetence. I’m sure the alt-right dipshits who took over your server will give you a tissue while you whine and cry to me.
Lol nah, I left that shitty instance of yours for a reason. Only reason I’m even here is because you are flooding every other and Lemmy doesn’t allow individuals to block instances yet
Right but it’s relevant to how news is portrayed and what kind of content we think should be posted here. I think it’s a great post to spark that discussion
The court concludes plaintiffs’ evidence forecasting excessive heat for the upcoming weeks and detailing the risks of heat-related deaths and illnesses is sufficient to show that irreparable harm will result in the absence of injunctive relief,” Nunley wrote in his order.
Last year, he ordered similar temporary restraining orders against the city to halt encampment sweeps during scorching temperatures that lasted nearly two months.
The complaint includes details from a sweep in mid July, when authorities removed about 30 people from a tree-lined street in the city’s midtown. The temperature that day was 91F, and the sweep came just before a multi-day stretch of triple-digit temperatures, according to the AP.
The city did not offer any housing to the people kicked out of their temporary shelters, the Sacramento Bee reported.
So it's a temporary ban on forcing anyone to move under the possibility the victim will die of heat stroke if they do. But after the ban is lifted, they'll still be shuffled around with nowhere to actually go.
They'll just keep struggling to live out of cars and tents (if they have those) in dangerous weather conditions because, from personal experience, the grand majority of people seem to think building shelters is the thing that attracts homeless people and thus, if your city doesn't have shelters, nobody will be homeless.
As authorities try to untangle the incident, a man who was seen swimming across the river to the aid of the riverboat worker was partly identified as “Aaren”.
“In the face of adversity, Aaren selflessly came to the rescue of a fellow colleague, showcasing courage beyond his years,” a statement from his publicist, Makina Lashea, read.
I think in a lot of cases, it’s less about them having a lot of money and more about how they’re able to effect change using that money or the power/influence associated with that money. Unfortunately, this can often happen at a relatively large scale, like by upending a popular social media platform or disrupting the automobile industry (for good or ill) or discussing futuristic public transportation ideas to take the wind out of the sails of more realistic/attainable projects and efforts.
All things considered, I wouldn’t mind hearing less about these people - a lot less. We’re well into mud slinging territory and some of these dickheads absolutely thrive on that. I’m sure the worst of them feel egged on when the media talks about them so they say or do more crazy shit very publicly to draw attention from fanboys and detractors alike. Call it a vicious cycle… or a hyperloop or something.
I decided to stopped posting things about him after he made that laughable announcement that he’d pay the legal bills of anyone fired because of their tweets. He did it purely for attention, and I realized I don’t want to help give it to him anymore.
I made an exception for this article because it’s not about him, but about how writers can’t just keep uncritically covering every stupid thing he says.
fair enough and fwiw, that’s what i was kind of echoing. “we’re” in mud slinging territory as a culture, but journalists/opinion-piece-writers/whatever are massive drivers of it.
Ideally, we’d stop caring about people because of the sole fact they have a lot of money.
Well currently, we need to focus on them, but specifically on the exploitation that was required for them to make that money, and on the damage them hoarding so much of it does to the rest of us.
Then ideally we finally turn on them en masse and abolish the system that not only enables, but thrives on, and even requires inequality and resource disparity to exist. At that point we no longer have to worry about the disgusting and harmful worship of the super wealthy because there will be no super wealthy. Instead everyone will have their needs met.
Oh, you mean the media should stop polarizing him as either a Tony-Stark-like genius savior of humanity while ignoring his numerous failures, or a brain-dead embodiment of evil who can never succeed at anything while ignoring his numerous successes?
You mean he probably lies somewhere in the middle of those two extremes, right? Certainly you wouldn’t just be criticizing one portrayal without recognizing how equally pathetic the other is? I mean, if you did that, it would be blatantly showing your hand that you’re not trying to clear up lame propaganda, you’re just contributing a different flavor.
Would SpaceX not count in that? I get that he, himself is not the guy who made the rocket, but without his money that first rocket and the COTS program would have never existed.
His only successes with SpaceX and Tesla are buying startups and then pumping them full of cash whilst adding aggressive goals. It's really the various teams that were successful, not Musk. If you want to credit his success, that would be betting the farm on some decently cutting edge startups and then proceeding to win those bets investment-wise.
Guaranteed they feel this and lives are slightly better without the cops running down on them 247 like some tough guys. Having to move all your shit can be the last thread for some. It’s an extremely volatile lifestyle. I’m all for ease of suffering in anyway for this community. I really wish it was not like this. Lots of people with little shot. Lots of people with many but wrong circumstances. Lots of people. Lots of problems. I’d hate to ever have to be the cop to come and sweep the riff raff away, who probably has somewhat personal interactions with many of these people often. There’s obviously way too many issues on every level here and it’s overwhelming for my small brain.
