qjkxbmwvz , in US FCC chair to seek reinstating net neutrality rules rescinded under Trump

Remember: elections have consequences.

Also remember that — as much as disaffected and/or malicious actors (or Simpsons and South Park, for that matter) will claim otherwise — the two major political parties in the US are not the same.

SasquatchBanana ,

Yeah but have you considered America bad?? And Biden bad??? Thought not.

MotoAsh ,

Simply repeating the delusions someone has dismantled is a very, very lame joke.

InternetUser2012 ,

Lol, and who told you to think that? Fox “news”? Don’t waste your time trying to say some other bullshit either, we all know.

SasquatchBanana ,

Did my sarcasm go over people’s heads? Should I have used more punctuation?

ColonelSanders ,

If it’s any consolation, I’m high and even I understood your sarcasm. Not sure how everyone else missed it.

nieceandtows , in Hunter Biden sues Rudy Giuliani, attorney Robert Costello for "hacking" laptop data

What’s crazy is forgetting you even dropped off a laptop at a service center. How high were you? Wait, no need to answer that.

Quasari , (edited )

I’m pretty sure what’s being alleged is that there is real data exfiltrated from his devices on the laptop, but the laptop itself wasn’t his. As in he was hacked, someone created the laptop with that data and added manipulations to it, then coincidently dropped it off to be “found”.

Given the lack of proper chain of custody, it’s probably likely.

snooggums ,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

exhilarated

LoL

Quasari ,

Lol at mobile autocorrect, I wanted to say exfiltrated.

nieceandtows ,

Nope, the allegation is that they had his laptop, but they modified some content in his harddisk to make it look like he put it there. The laptop itself isn’t in question, some of the content is.

Quasari ,

From Washington Post:

In the lawsuit, Biden does not concede that the laptop was his, but he does acknowledge that at least “some of the data that Defendants obtained, copied, and proceeded to hack into and tamper with belongs” to him. The lawsuit charges that Biden’s data was “manipulated, altered and damaged before it was copied and sent” to Giuliani and Costello.

He specifically says some of his private data was hacked, he’s not saying the laptop they had was his, just they definitely had his private data.

Bwaz ,

That reminds me, I need to book a flight from here on the west coast to go get my laptop fixed at some obscure shop in N.J. Damn, I wish someone out here was blind enough to fix laptops.

zaph ,

As someone who runs a shop much like the one claiming to have been used by Hunter, when people leave their devices we don’t get to do whatever we want with their data.

nieceandtows ,

No doubt. I’m not saying anything in support of the guys who capitalized on the laptop. I’m just talking about how you can even forget you dropped off a laptop for service. May be its because I don’t have the fuck you money he probably has, but it’s mind boggling to me.

zaph ,

Tbh I still don’t understand how people can leave their shit but we’ve got shelves full of devices we’ve fixed and no one answers the call to pick it up. There’s a laptop sitting on the shelf that’s been here longer than me and I’ve met the customer multiple times they just always say “I’ll be back in a couple weeks for it.”

Daft_ish ,

Free laptop storage

Case ,

Worked in a shady little PC repair shop.

If the owner was in one of the stores, he would “personally oversee” shall we say data retention? If the customer was a young (legal, as in not CP, but creepy age difference) woman.

Yeah, he backed up their data and looked for nudes. I was too young to know how to handle it, so when he said he couldn’t pay me (even after it was due) I told him to fuck off.

I hope he fucked one of the day time strippers he spent most of his “office time” (the office being a strip club) with and wound up with an incurable STD.

I hope his wife found out. I hope she took him for everything.

“Animal Shit House”

You are correct, humans are not plants, fungi, bacterias or viruses, but what about colorful ponies? Our toilets are unlikely to fit them.

MetaCubed ,

“animal shit house” does not necessarily imply that multiple types of animal use it

Humans are animals, we use the shit house, therefore it is an animal shit house

Two things I’d love to see. Eliminating the electoral college and then getting rid of superdelegates. Two fundamentally anti-democratic concepts.

aidan ,

Well superdelegates aren’t exactly something the government can legislate away because they’re just an internal thing of the DNC.

Abolish parties.

Ranked-choice voting.

arensb ,

How do you do that without violating the First Amendment right to freedom of association?

aidan ,

How?

kirklennon ,

Under the 2018 rules, in the Democratic National Convention superdelegates can't participate in the first vote and can participate only in a contested convention. Seems reasonable to me.

Wikipedia also reminded me about this little bit of Bernie hypocrisy that I'd forgotten about: "Sanders initially said that the candidate with the majority of pledged delegates should be the nominee; in May 2016, after falling behind in the elected delegate count, he shifted, pushed for a contested convention and arguing that, 'The responsibility that superdelegates have is to decide what is best for this country and what is best for the Democratic Party.'" Talk about unprincipled political opportunist.

20hzservers ,

Yes Bernie is an unprincipled political opportunist.

Shadywack ,
@Shadywack@lemmy.world avatar

I can disagree with something Bernie said, but still be a huge supporter of his for his many other things I fully agree with. I maintain that superdelegates being in place to deal with a contested convention is still a bad thing and undemocratic. The real unhelpful part was when the DNC chair stated that it can also quell unintended grassroots efforts. I thought grassroots efforts were an example of a good thing about democracy, not a bad one.

kirklennon ,

Bernie Sanders is emphatically not a Democrat and doesn't want to do any of the work of building or supporting the party, but when he decides to run for president, he suddenly wants the party's money and infrastructure, only to abandon the party ASAP after the election. He may be fine as a senator, but as a presidential candidate, he's just so utterly loathsome. He's got major entitled old white man syndrome and it makes me lose absolutely all respect for him.

If you're on to a contested convention, you can't directly reflect the will of the primary voters in the first place (because they didn't pick a winner) so I can't really find any reason to object to superdelegates, most of whom are elected Democrats and already literally representing their constituents in Congress, etc.

tallwookie , in Biden, US officials warn of hunger for millions in a government shutdown

however did the starving masses manage to survive prior to govt handouts?

idiomaddict ,

They used to be allowed to gather and sow all over. The government has made that illegal.

tallwookie ,

lol ok. foraging is completely legal as is farming.

rez_doggie ,

You have to be joking.

idiomaddict ,

No it’s not

captainlezbian ,

Many didn’t. At times it got so bad they turned to violence against the wealthy. That’s a decent portion of why the government has handouts actually. Bread and circuses is a very famous and long-standing technique to prevent open rebellion for a reason.

kimpilled ,

Subsistence farming. However:

  1. Farming blows
  2. If everyone has to farm then no one can specialize to do other things
  3. If you think the USA is a car-dependent sprawl that’s terrible for the environment currently, wait until literally everyone has enough land to sustain themselves and requires infrastructure to connect it all

Direct voting should be the end-goal of a democracy.

uis ,
@uis@lemmy.world avatar

You mean referendums?

VentraSqwal ,

Not sure what the guy you replied to meant, but I don’t think we should have referendums about every little thing. I know some of the stuff that pops up in my friend’s state’s referendums they say they don’t feel qualified at all to vote on. But I agree that major stuff, like who gets to be President, probably should be direct voting.

uis ,
@uis@lemmy.world avatar

I asked what kind of direct voting. Referendum is direct voting on laws.

like who gets to be President, probably should be direct voting.

It’s direct elections. Direct voting is more broad.

Probably because you’re not a woman that may need CPR one day. It’s easy to dismiss things that won’t ever effect you.

If some websites seem to load significantly faster than others now (youtube, reddit, facebook), it’s because ISPs can throttle or prioritise traffic to certain websites and they do not have to report this information to their customers.

VPN is great and a solution but it can also be a hassle in many configurations.

And really there is nothing stopping them from throttling secure traffic unless you buy a business plan or whatever they come up with.

I hope it can be reinstated because allowing ISPs to throttle various traffic gives absolutely no benefit to the end user.

I know CPR.

Reap what you sow society.

I had a woman ask me to get I her car to figure out why it wasn’t starting for her one time, this isn’t even close to CPR and that feeling of dread hit me and I refused. No way I’m putting myself in even greater danger.

I know the reality is thing will likely be fine in both situations. Then I remember multiple women telling lies in my life, accusing me of things I never did.

I had to go to court and has her admit on stand she lied. I almost went to jail and she got off Scott free. That isn’t justice.

With how much more weight women’s voices get and how much favourably the justice system views women compared to men. Yeah no, fuck that, I will not put myself in a situation where a woman can tell another lie to ruin another life.
