From the article…

But while many think that YouTube’s system isn’t great, Trendacosta also said that she “can’t think of a way to build the match technology” to improve it, because “machines cannot tell context.” Perhaps if YouTube’s matching technology triggered a human review each time, “that might be tenable,” but “they would have to hire so many more people to do it.”

That’s what it comes down to, right there.

Google needs to spend money on people, and not just rely on the AI automation, because it’s obviously getting things wrong, its not judging context correctly.

Why is the cc-by-nc-sa license disappointing? Is your disappointment exclusive to version 4.0?

My only disappontment is with those humans (and humans who use ““humans””) who side with AI model using corporations that steal other people’s content to train said models for profit, over regular everyday people.

Personally I suggest Fedora with KDE.

It has a great update cadence time frame, and good hardware support (indirectly backed by IBM). And games really well in Steam/Proton.

That’ll get you the most Windows like experience on Linux, for an average user who doesn’t like to tinker much and just wants it to work out of the box.

Just make sure to accept third party libraries / apps when you first install. It’s a single checkbox that you click.

ACAB

Didn’t know what that stood for, I had to look it up.

I’m going to hope that’s wrong, and that it’s just a certain percentage in any professional caste that has bad apples.

I am willing to believe that the percentage of bad apples is larger in law enforcement, only because of the type of people who would gravitate to that type of position that would give them control over others, and how much money is spent on monitoring law enforcement personnel by the government for legal and ethics compliance, as well as mental suitability to do the job.

And no need to reply to me with every bad thing that’s ever been done by police officers. I read them all, here, as well as elsewhere. I just can’t subscribe to the 100% pop that ACAB stands for.

From the article…

It did manage, however, to release a truly bizarre app for iOS and Android devices that requires two smartphones or tablets to work. One device displays the game and the other acts as a controller. It’s a weird idea and, according to Kotaku, “one janky piece of crap.”

The only reason I can think of them doing that is maybe because of CPU overutilization?

Either that, or they wanted to set one up as a game server, and then have multiple phones be the clients. They just forgot to add the feature to let the server run locally on the client.

For many many years even low end Android phones can perfectly run emulated game systems that came out a decade or two after atari, so cpu probably isn’t a bottleneck at all

Yeah, I kind of agree, but I just threw it out there as a possibility, as maybe their code base is really bad and non-performant.

Valve’s decision to slap the game with an Unsupported rating, then, is down to one game mode not working because it needs to access PlayStation network features, which right now is only possible on Windows devices.

Thwaites, which already contributes 4% to global sea level rise, holds enough ice to raise sea levels by more than 2 feet. But because it also acts as a natural dam to the surrounding ice in West Antarctica, scientists have estimated its complete collapse could ultimately lead to around 10 feet of sea level rise — a catastrophe for the world’s coastal communities.

That’s a lot of beachfront and riverside properties that would end up going underwater.

I think it will be impossible for us to asses how much it actually impacts function in real world use case.

Does seem fair though to say that if you have 85% less data input/probes, that you’re losing some to a large amount of fidelity, than an algorithm can only make up so much for.

A potentionally bad analogy, but think of it as a high bitrate versus a low bitrate, for listening to music. The quality of the music will be notably different, but you would still be able to hear both of the songs in their entirety.

At the end of the day, it’s a lack of data that was originally expected for the algorithm to work with, that is now missing.

Zelensky: 'Our partners fear that Russia will lose this war' (kyivindependent.com)

We compromise our morals/ethics again and again in the name of obtaining oil.

We really should come up with a different fuel source for our nation, that works as efficiently as oil does, and leave that region to solve its own political problems.

Does your above response include this point …

that works as efficiently as oil does

Only thing we’re missing is for greedy politicians to get out of the pockets of the fossil fuel industries so that the transition can happen in earnest.

Not saying that you’re wrong at all, but there’s also the issue of completely replacing our infrastructure to support the new technologies, and the costs involved in doing that.

Not an easy task, though a worthy one.

Toilet seat belongs down - and the lid with it! It’s not only logical, but also just.

The thing is, at least in our household, the lid has to stay up.

I actually thought as you do, as that would be a perfect compromise, both parties would have to work to use the toilet.

But from what I’m told, is the late night half asleep moments where you forget to put the seat down, and you fall down into the toilet, that is being prevented by making sure the seats always down and the lid is always up.

It’s a low hanging fruit way of maritial bliss, so I go with it.

Maybe I’m not understanding you but lid down is a foolproof way to not fall in from my perspective.

My wife always forgets when she gets up in the middle of the night, and falls in, or sits on the lid and has to get up and put the lit up and seat down herself.

So she asks me to always make sure to put the seat down for her, something that I’m happy to do, as a happy wife is a happy life.

Lid down so the flush spray is mostly contained is enough reason, no?

Honestly, at this point I expect the large amount of downvotes for anything I post. I’ve had that happen to a post where I just said “Thanks” and nothing else. So you can have the lid down while seat is up? Then what you said before makes much more sense. Though not sure what purpose this feature brings. Or how that would even lool like, never seen anything like that.

Are you trying to be purposely obtuse, or intellectually dishonest?

Or are you trying to let me know I have a typo somewhere in one of my earlier comments, without actually explicitly saying so?

Or do you have a magic toilet where urine can pass through the lid when its down?

CosmicCleric , (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

You said your lid and seat are totally independent - suggesting you can leave the seat up but close the lid.

I believe that’s an interpretation mistake on your part (the italicized part).

I was responding in disagreement to your comment about how both of them have to both be up together, or both down together, to actually use the toilet.

A reminder of what I was responding to…

So she asks me to always make sure to put the seat down for her,

Seat is down if thenlid is down.

Our lid is seperate from the seat. One can be done down while the other one is still up.

I wasn’t commenting on what order they stack on top of each other.

I feel like I’m being trolled myself tbh.

For the record, not trolling at all, it’s not what I do.

So lets just shake our headsbin unison and carry on.
