  • SpaceNoodle ,

It was tasty and a decent enough value through the mid-2010s.

Since then, quality has plummeted, sizes halved, and prices doubled - so if it’s not extremely convenient, it’s far from worth it.

Huh, look at that. Niccol took the reins in 2018, right at the time of the shift. Doesn’t matter, line goed up!

I guess it’s still able to make money by coasting on brand recognition, but Bri-Bri is already long gone and won’t have to worry about the consequences.

What little quality Starbucks has left is about to go the same way - but it’s got even more inertial

    The enshittifiation continues.

    SpaceNoodle ,

Taco Bell was the Mexican McDonald’s. Chipotle was never that much more authentic, but at least it raised the bar in relation. It is now a mere shell of what it once was.

I guess you’ve never been to the Midwest.

I dated a woman who referred to Taco Bell and Fazoli’s as Mexican and Italian, respectively.

ccunning , in Arizona to vote on enshrining abortion rights in state constitution in November

Will ballot initiatives like these have any notable effect on turnout in one direction or the other?

I believe Florida also has a similar ballot initiative; I don’t know about any other states.

    randon31415 ,

    Here is the list

The only one in doubt of making it on the ballot is in Arkansas where the secretary of state is pulling out all the stops to invalidate the payed canvassers signatures.

    Maggoty ,

In Arizona it’s going to blow up the numbers. They had to fight to repeal an 1864 law and now it’s defaulted to a no exceptions 15 week law. So yeah, it’s a big deal in Arizona and likely to give the Democrats a boost in statewide offices. The state legislature is still hopelessly gerrymandered though.

Kraven_the_Hunter , in Boaters in Florida find 56 pounds of barnacle-covered cocaine

I didn’t think they could do one sequel to Cocaine Bear, much less two. But they did it, and in record time. Cocaine Shark wasn’t my jam but I’ll give it credit for doing a lot of world building. Cocaine Barnacle should have gone straight to video though.

TheTechnician27 , (edited ) in Elon Musk went judge shopping in ad lawsuit and didn’t get the judge he wanted
    @TheTechnician27@lemmy.world avatar

It’s ridiculous in the first place that this was allowed to be brought to Texas. Twitter is based in California; Media Matters is based in DC. Both organizations have fuck-all to do with the jurisdiction this case was brought before, except of course that Texas are in the chickendick minority of states who haven’t passed anti-SLAPP legislation yet and thus wouldn’t dismiss Musk’s case outright.

Also, eat used gum off the toilet in a park bathroom, Musk; eating shit isn’t good enough for you.

Edit: I was fairly mistaken about the anti-SLAPP thing; it’s still stupid, but definitely see below for clarification.

    Scholars_Mate ,

Texas does have anti-SLAPP laws passed and they are among the strongest in the nation. Unfortunately, the courts have ruled that they cannot be used in federal courts.

worldwidewave , in Newly Approved Missouri Referendum Could Reverse State Abortion Ban

Voters in at least eight U.S. states will now be able to vote on constitutional amendment ballot measures regarding abortion rights in the November elections, and in Missouri on Tuesday, organizers celebrated as they learned their initiative to place a history-making referendum on ballots had succeeded.

Good. The more states that have abortion on the ballot, the better this election should be for Democrats. If even Kansas can pass abortion rights, most purple states should as well.

    zabadoh ,

Ideally there should be anti-gerrymandering propositions to repair the apportionment of state legislatures, because those would benefit from a broader voter turnout as well. Because that’s how the ridiculous anti-abortion laws were rammed through to begin with.

FelixCress , in IDF uses Gazan civilians as human shields to inspect potentially booby-trapped tunnels

There is a precedent for it. In the 2WW, in Warsaw Uprising, the Nazis were using civilians as live shields for their tanks to stop Polish Home Army shooting at them.

No surprise that Nazis employ the same tactics again.

Hobbes_Dent , in Elon Musk went judge shopping in ad lawsuit and didn’t get the judge he wanted

I hope the judge so much as delivered a newspaper at the age of nine let alone worked a day in any business that bought advertising in any media because then we may see the smack down.

This whole thing is so absurd as someone who was on the media end. The advertiser-media relationship is (was?) wholly one of supplication to the client. It’s absolutely bonkers to see a media entity demand client business and sue. It’s like Opposite Day in Capitalism Land.

    Kinda anti-capitalist actually there Elon.
