YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME???

We did a lot of straight algebra in highschool, I don’t need the exact skill but its boosted my abstract thinking a lot which helps in other things

Lucky, my school only did gay algebra and look at me now 😩

Scan it

QR codes require the background colour (white) to extend at least 5 pixels around the corners. This won’t scan.

Most of the math I do at work is related to compound interest. Of all the math I believe the general public should understand, the concept of how paying interest to others is a total screw would get my top vote.

I have a co-worker who took out a car loan last week at, wait for it, FIFTY THREE PERCENT INTEREST! No concept of what that was costing her. She could only see, “I can afford the monthly payment.”

(1 + r)^n and its friend 1/(1 + r)^n have been the two most important concepts in work and personal life that I’ve ever learned and applied.

ScrotusMaximus ,

Sounds like predatory lending

Got_Bent ,

I would agree, but it’s not my life, not my money. You can’t really go around telling people they fucked up every time you see it.

zonsopkomst ,
@zonsopkomst@lemmy.ml avatar

True. Plus, while dumb, 53% will always beat the interest extracted by two goons and a baseball bat. There’s always a trade-off!

RememberTheApollo_ ,

53%?!

Sounds like one of those shitty used car joints “no credit, no problem” that you sign your life away for a mediocre car.

barsquid ,

That is usury. That cannot be legal? Oh, no, I just checked, wow, usury laws are weak af.

Got_Bent ,

Usury was indeed the term that immediately came to mind.

Funny but, just bad advice. Employers will just with someone who has no NDA.

Chef_Boyardee ,

Employers will just with someone?!? Is there anything that can the situation?

Simmy ,

Sorry, I meant they will just hire some else than deal with anyone saying they have an NDA.

How the hell is “average price” useful?

Thats like buying potatoes and pork chops and saying the average price is $8.75. Technically true but practically useless.

dogsoahC , in Toss a coin to yer Witcher

What does it mean to flip toilet paper when replacing it? Like, putting it in the right way and wrong the next time? How does that make him right “either way”? At best, that makes him right 50% of the time. Sorry, but this just makes no fucking sense. Or am I missing something?

SuperSaiyanSwag ,

I think there is some broken grammar here or something, I don’t get it either

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

I think you got it spot on. I guess OP thinks being sometimes right means being right in general

pyre ,

clearly op doesn’t think this behavior is right, as they’ve used it as an example of “the worst monster of all”, but the confusing part is why and if anyone would ever even do this. it would have worked better if the person picked one way or another; at least it would have been a statement on op’s part.

fyi the right way is to put it over, unless you have a cat, then you’re allowed to put it under without penalty or shame.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Good point. I don’t know how I didn’t realize that.

I also agree with your opinion regarding which way is correct

If you seek emancipation of anyone or anything by critique, you should read up what others wrote down, that had or have the same goal.

Otherwise your are individualistically and egoistically sabotaging the very project you want to contribute to.

Saying the most edgy thing to feel yourself “being on the right side” will not do good to anyone except yourself.

9point6 , in The "xylo" is greek for wood

This always messed with me as a kid because for no reason I can come up with, xylophone made sense as the metal one and glockenspiel made sense as the wood one

It took more effort than it should to unlearn this

pumpkinseedoil , (edited )

German Glocke = English bell = made out of metal

Literally Glockenspiel = bell game

menemen , (edited )
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

And this is why it is good advice not to think too much about that word as a German speaker.

Flughoernchen ,

Chiming in for clarification: Literally it’s “bell game” but the word’s meaning is more like “bells that play” or “bells to play with”.

NateNate60 , in Israel's Perfect Match

Do you think before you post?

trevor ,

If you’re mad that the flag of Israel is depicted next to a Nazi logo, I would remind you that Israel is not the same thing as Jewish people, nor does it represent them. Israel is representative of a Zionist nation-state, and nothing more.

Both of the ideologies depicted in this meme are centered around genocidal ethnostates, so nothing being said is untrue.

argv_minus_one , in Israel doesn't have the right to exist
@argv_minus_one@mstdn.party avatar

@Confidant6198

You really should clarify whether you mean the state or the people.

States don't have rights (they exist at the pleasure of their citizens), but people do.

    That sounds like Nazi talk.

    shiftymccool ,

    Punctuation is important. It’s the difference between a nice family meal and cannibalism.

    trevor ,

    Friendly reminder that conflating Jewish people with Israel is highly antisemitic.

    Ethnostates should not exist. They will always result in the exclusion and harm of the excluded groups, as we are seeing now with the government of said ethnostate attempting to genocide Palestinians.

    Both Nazis and the genocidal government of Israel are willing to enact violence to uphold their ethnostates, so in that regard, comparing Zionism (not Jewish people) to other ideologies that aim to build ethnostates is perfectly apt.

    Hope this helps 🥰

    No, they are called metallophones, glockenspiel is just one of them. Other common metallophones are the tubular bells and the vibraphone
