Implying that parents don’t have any free time? I mean, my time isn’t “my own”, but my wife and I sure as hell have free time.
Personally, I would go insane without free time. If my chores won’t allow any free time, the chores don’t get finished. They’ll still be there tomorrow.
I guess there are scenarios where I have free time, but it’s less than 30 minutes daily. In some evenings I can fight the exhaustion of a full day of child care after putting them to sleep to stay awake and get some free time, taking into account of being very tired when they wake me up quite early.
It probably gets better when the kids are older, mine are little.
Two humans are just too few to take care after two kids. Originally humans were not isolated to 4 person families like they are today. The whole tribe was looking after all the kids, sharing different duties and having a collective schedule, similar to Kindergarden today, but the whole day.
After that a few generations lived together in one house, still having less impact on the actual parents. Then we got our 2 parents + kids family model where in the beginning one parent was doing childcare full time.
Arriving in todays society, where both parents need to work and do the child care on the side by themselves after parental leaves from work are over. This is from the age of 1 where I live, but e.g. in the U.S. it’s right away.
Obviously this most parent hostile setup in the society of today, adding also some financial disadvantages, is a big reason this societies demographic issues.
My first had major medical issues (for her first 3-4 years) that necessitated close supervision after a 3-month stay in the NICU. She had PT, OT, speech therapy, and feeding therapy every week, appointments with cardiology and pulmonology, gastroenterology, regular post-operation and post-NICU visits, and the normal doctor appointments.
She took a lot of work, and severely limited our options for going out, due to a feeding schedule (while trying to limit projectile vomiting – and I do mean vomiting, hard and loudly, not just “spitting up” – to 2 times a day, when possible) that allowed practically nothing. Still, we managed to have downtime, where we could just relax and unwind. It’s how we stayed sane.
Given the circumstances, a second child really changed very little, in terms of work required. We still found time for ourselves.
Admittedly, it would have been impossible (or extremely cost-ineffective) for me to have a job at that point, but my daughter was a full-time job and then some. I realize that this probably negates everything I’ve said to most in this thread, but still.
This is highly misleading. Hamas is not palestine and vice versa. What israel is fighting against is hamas, who are cowardly hiding behind civilians. The only reason the israeli can survive thousands of rocket launch from hamas over the years was because of their superior defence system. Hamas’ own rocket sometimes fell into their own territory, killing palestinian, but many people would just shut their eyes to this.
This reminds me of that movie where the bad guy takes a bunch of hostages as a human shield and the good guy just kills all of them so he can kill the bad guy. Wait… that never happens
Israel is fighting against all of Palestine, not just Hamas.
who are cowardly hiding behind civilians
Israel won’t let civilians outside of Gaza. They want Hamas to be among civilians. Moreover, Israel brutalizes Palestinians who live inside Israeli borders, without Hamas troops present.
I think you are stretching. They don’t want civilians mixed in with hamas. The political damage it does to them is not insignificant. But there is no way they can tell which people are civilians to let out and which are civilians. Not saying they are the good guys either though.
They absolutely do. Their goal is ethnic cleansing. Every Israeli policy is about forcing Palestinians outside of Palestine. Why else are most Palestinians never allowed to come back if they leave, or given hell for it in the minority cases that they are?
You can absolutely verify a civilian. Are you kidding me?!! You guys will say anything to justify keeping people in a concentrstjon camp. I can’t believe the degree of heartlessness.
As you claim others will say anything, you do litterally that. You claim to know the minds and intentions of how many people? Are you a mind reader? Clairvoyant? And I doubt you have knowledge of even 1% of the Isreali policies, yet claim they all have one goal.
Do you even know you can support a side without spewing false BS. There are plenty of reasonable arguments, but you choose to sound like someone on fox news instead. You hurt your cause more then help it.
I did not mean literally every written rule of Israel. I obviously do not have the bandwidth to read them all. But Israel’s policy against Palestinians is that. I’m sure you knew what I meant.
Are you implying that the goal, either directly or indirectly, of the entire Middle East outside of Israel ISN’T ethnic cleansing? I’m pretty sure the second Israel can’t or chooses not to stand against Hamas as strongly as they are, they’ll be targets of pretty much every other nation in the region. The world hates jews, particularly that region. Both sides are absolute disgraces to humanity, and I’m not willing to call a blatant act of terrorism on either side in ANY way justified.
Why lump Palestinians with what corrupt governments installed by the West (like Israel) hundreds if not thousands of kilometers away have done?
We already know how Palestinians treated Jewish migrations prior to Israel’s creation. When Europe was persecuring jews, Palestinians were teaching Jewish refugees how to farm (because in many parts of Europe, they weren’t allowed to).
But your “we have to massacre Palestinians, because what if we don’t, have you not considered they may massacre us too???!!”. This colonial mindset is nonsensical.
What israel did was, they gave warnings to civilians whenever they target any building but there’s no perfect system that can precisely hit the target and prevent casualities. Do you see hamas doing the same? They indiscriminately send rockets that would’ve surely hit israel civilians if not for the iron dome. So from there, we can see who the bad guy is.
Their “warning” consists of shooting a smaller missile at the roof of a building a few minutes before the main missile. Obviously a great and super effective warning
Hey, I’m about to obliterate your neighborhood in 12 hours. Get ready.
Gee thanks, don’t know what I would’ve done. Now I’m sure you’ll at least let me seek refuge in the territories you occupy, Israel, right? Right?!!
Hamas missiles target military installations, not civilians. Israel has the modern weaponry to only target the militants, whereas Hamas doesn’t. Yet Israel’s casualties have magnitudes more of civilians than Hamas, despite their imprecise weapons.
Hamas missiles target military installations, not civilians.
Hey, I agree with most of what you’re saying in this thread, but that seems disingenuous. First of all, Hamas seems to have developed a home-grown rocket manufacturing capability, undoubtedly with the support of the IRGC. While they probably hold some precision-guided munitions in reserve, they’ve yet to demonstrate that. So, at present, any reference to Hamas missiles is moot.
Moreover, Hamas has, in recent days, specifically targeted Israeli civilians. Setting aside any partisan reporting, there is overwhelming evidence that Hamas intentionally murdered hundreds of civilians. That being the case, your imprecation that
Hamas missiles target military installations
seems pretty disingenuous.
Is Bibi the good guy here? Of fucking course not. Aside from widely-reported ‘intelligence failures’, he’s on the record supporting Hamas, in order to prop up his own fascist regime. If anyone’s more guilty than Hamas, it’s fucking Netanyahu.
Hamas seems to have developed a home-grown rocket manufacturing capability
That exactly tells you why it’s so imprecise. Israel has weapons created by the world’s top rocket scientists and the most precise manufacturing facilities, and for Hamas it’s people who barely have couple hours of electricity per day putting something together in one of the most densely populated areas, full of rubble and destruction.
When I say they “target” military facilities, I mean that’s what they aim for. Not that they have the high military capabilities to never miss.
Moreover, Hamas has, in recent days, specifically targeted Israeli civilians
I don’t deny that there are individuals in Hamas who have targeted civilians or killed them needlessly. Hamas is a resistance militia and not a hive mind. Unfortunately, living your entire life in a concentration camp with limited food and electricity, watching families burning alive and buildings coming down may lead you to hate people who are rave dancing on the gates of your open air prison, or even the regular civilians. It is not rational, but it is bound to happen. And because of this, I blame Israel.
And I don’t blame Israel to absolve Hamas of blame. Hamas leadership is complicit in ignoring civilian killing, I do not deny this. But blaming Hamas will drive no significant change. The root cause of these issues is Israel. At the very least, the civilian killings are usually individual actions, and Hamas’ military campaigns target the military. Whereas for Israel, civilians are target, and Hamas is their tool to convince Israelis that bombing Gaza is good.
The difference is, hamas uses civilian buildings AS military buildings. They literally use their brethren as shields, so they can say “you can’t attack us or it’s a humanitarian crisis!”
Yes, bombing civilian buildings SUCKS, but we have to also at least acknowledge the wrongs of Hamas here, acknowledge how they’ve pretty much left no other options.
What israel did was, they gave warnings to civilians whenever they target any building but there’s no perfect system that can precisely hit the target and prevent casualities.
That can also be your poor fucking housemate if you got one. One day, after 5 snoozes at 5am, I went to the dude’s door and yelled, “Either get the fuck up or I’ll pour an ice-cold bucket of water over your head and bed the next time it rings!” I wasn’t joking. He never used the snooze function again.
You know the “most annoying noise in the world” bit from Dumb and Dumber? I had a roommate with THAT and about five other loud ass annoying things as his alarms. If I didn’t have to get out of bed to do so I would have done the same.
I didn’t make that sort of threat or anything, but I sure as hell got mad when my wife did something like 8 snoozes one morning when I got to sleep in. Being half asleep and angry really sucks. Thankfully, she never did it again.
I want to make a short film / animation where aliens are approaching earth, the only thing we know about the aliens is that they plan to destroy all life and replace it with their own twisted creation. A few minutes of typical story follows, heroes assemble, go to fight, etc. The heroes lose and the ending scene shows that the aliens have succeeded and replaced all the diverse life on Earth with a perfectly manicured lawn that covers the entire planet. A biological wasteland.
America is hosting the world cup next so…yeah literally at this point anything goes. The only way it could be worse is if the literal Nazi regime was back and they were hosting the world cup.
Ah! So my older sister actually brought me and our youngers siblings into my mom’s room once. Mom was off working or something (think it was like summer we were all like 5 and 2, with my older sister being closer to 10). Anyway my sister gets this amazing idea to open my mom’s bed side drawer and pull out “balloons” for us to play with. She then helps us fill them with water and throw around. Remember we were all amazed at the pretty colors and how some of them were shiny! Needless to say my sister’s devious plan backfired and she was grounded while we were none-the-wiser. Funny shit
You’re right but I think what they meant is essentially a facet of Dunning-Kreuger.
Most people know enough to know that what they know is a fraction of the surface area of a subject.
But some people know a fraction of it and think they have godly expertise because they can’t see the breadth and depth of the field. This is often because they can’t even comprehend the complexity as they simply haven’t encountered it before.
Europe has laws that recycling companies have to state how much % per weight ends up wherever. They charge you in Germany a deposit of ~15 cent per single use plastic bottle and you have to return it in mint condition in special recycling machines to get that money back. I’ve heard that Austria wants to make that 25 cent over there in 2025 - that’s 30% of what a bottle of water costs in a German Aldi.
I only buy salt that has flouride in it, and I make sure that guests can read the label from where they sit. I call it “Conspiracy Theorist Coverblower“. And I salt very little.
depends on your country, here in Mexico we don’t have tap water we need to buy water bottles or a water jug. I’m not sure why we don’t have tap water really 🤔
My local tap water is disgusting. A filter might make it safe to drink, but nothing makes it stop tasting gross. I’ll cook with it and drink it with flavoring but I won’t just drink it by itself.
Some places do have truely awful tap water even if it is technically drinkable. I’ve been places where the tap water reeked of sulphur and no filter would take out the taste short of an RO filter. We always had to buy drinking water there. At the same time though we always bought water in gallon jugs rather than the individual bottles.
PET is recycled as in: every supermarket has an drop off point, giving you back 25cnt for every large bottle, 15cnt for small and cans.
Plastic in the general garbage is separated (not 100%, but still) and either separated (polystyrene is easy to detect and seperate for instance) or sold to companies that repurpose them (more and more of those white triangle things in the corners of roads are repurposed strengthened plastics now).
I’m sure plenty will find its way to either landfill (that we don’t have much) or gets burnt. But it’s not as bad as the US, which was my point in the first place.
Yes, but now the soda bottles in that patch will have their caps attached. So that’s sort of, well, I suppose … you may have a point.
More seriously I’m fully convinced that this cap attachment nonsense is purely to save coca cola et. al. further costs in recycling bottles. Like it’s still a small step forward, but it wouldn’t happen if corpos weren’t saving a dime.
