Hank , in Average redditor nowadays

I love the hard drugs subreddits. The most interesting is r/DPH, the wildest is probably r/meth. Sort by top and scroll down. Just don't check the profiles of those making heartfelt promises to give up the drug forever and getting into rehab for follow ups.

rafa OP ,

Doing my best to bring here some of the gold there, without giving them money.

Really they’re absolutely insane, it’s hard to know if it’s satire or just their miserable lifes

Hank ,

Man some people are really hurting.

Madison420 ,

Dph isn’t satire, it’s legit. I know no one who’s done it or moreover abused it and speaks highly of it, it’s always “it was fuckin crazy!” “Should I try?” “uhh no don’t be stupid!”

Case ,

I had some severe sleep issues and ended up abusing DPH, not for any recreational effects I just needed to sleep. 9 days without sleep is bad. Torture.

I took 30 of those pink devils, just to sleep. I was that desparate.

Still didn’t sleep, but I went out back for a smoke and there was a spider towering over the houses in the neighborhood. Didn’t think anything of it while on the meds, just went out front to smoke lol. Also I had some common visitors in the corners of my bed room, cloaked in shadows whispery chanting in a language I couldn’t understand, while the darkness and certain patterns began to warp around me. But at the time it wasn’t concerning. DPH is a deleriant, line jimson weed and some other plants - they differ from hallucinogens in some interesting ways. Erowid has always been a good source on various substances for those inclined to research.

For those who may be concerned, I no longer take DPH much at all, last time was due to a new minor allergic reaction to something I haven’t been able to identify. Something was in that hookah tobacco my body didn’t like. Also, I’m sleeping better these days - in part due to having the right medical access, as well as rigorous sleep hygiene.

PeterPoopshit ,

One time I got downvoted to oblivion and then followed and harassed for saying that employers shouldn’t be allowed to drug test for thc… In r/lsd of all places. I still don’t know what that was about. Did I accidently trigger the “everyone dogpile this guy” bot algorithm, maybe in a different comment? Do lsd users just think they’re better than everyone else just because past use of lsd can’t really be drug tested for? This happened like a year ago and I’m still dumbfounded.

rafa OP ,

Do lsd users just think they’re better than everyone else

Yes, so do most of shrooms users, at least on the internet

Wage_slave ,

It’s weird how before the whole micro dosing and acceptance of lsd and mushrooms people who were into that were usually chill as fuck.

Now, seems like those into it now are kinda dicks and gatekeeping the shit out of things.

hamburglar26 ,

I think the people that a chill about it are doing something other than posting on the internet. The people I know in real life that are into such things are not dicks about it and all.

Impulsivedoorholder ,

Still chill as fuck, internet just got toxic and that doesn’t vibe.

Why not just get lost in space. I know my Internet time has gone down considerably and my regular time feels all warped and shit.

Ehh I’ve met lsd and shroom elitists in real life too.

@temptest@hexbear.net avatar

Lemmy has had a huge bias towards seize-the-means-of-production socialism from day 1, which is very important in understanding why it’s different from other reddit clones, and why it has unique features and anti-features. The political orientation is not incidental, it’s vital, and I’m glad to see it hasn’t completely died from the sudden influx of reddit-natives when the API thing happened.

planish ,

Lemmy just is seizing the means of production of threaded forums and link aggregators. Means sized! We can all go home.

Yurisho ,

eh… so long as lemmy does not allow server maintainers a means of monitezation I don’t see how lemmy could support growing over a certain size… sorry.

greywolf0x1 ,

I don’t see how lemmy could support growing over a certain size… sorry.

Good enough. We don’t need sleazy capitalists on here, the devs and server maintainers hake put and are still putting a huge amount of their time into this platform, totally unpaid. The least the rest of us can do is contribute as much as we can as our numbers grow.

I don’t think anything stops instances from e.g. running ads, or even charging subscription fees. The code is AGPL, and AGPL permits commercial use.

The statement in the image is just loaded with terminology that comes with a lot of baggae. It’s no surprise people tear into it. Can’t speak to whether that makes them leftist or just poly sci students.

“Uncorrupt” misunderstands the nature of corruption. How do you envision resolving the interests of the forces that give validity to said government while still keeping a capitalist structure?

“Generate wealth” presupposes a specific kind of wealth created by the government and given validity by the capitalist structure. You win at the rules of the game you made up. “Middle class” has a similar problem. “Prosperity” to a nation starving under the global capitalist regime might look quite different. Why use one benchmark over the other? Because of the game you want to choose.

InfiniteStruggle ,

Imma be honest bro I don’t understand most of your comment

HaggierRapscallier ,

uncorrupt…

probably a reference to the domestic oligarchy that the government supports and is propped up by.

generate wealth…

probably refers to the focus on stock market values and private wealth as opposed to society’s interests/wealth (public institutions, local swimming pools and amenities even, health etc). Middle class implies there must be impoverished workers and an upper-class. Finally, different countries will value national wealth differently according to their needs and resources - not everything has to be valued by the market to be fairly priced. Probably.

This is just more of the same. Every time some company thinks they’ve thrown enough money at the problem to DRM their way to success, somebody inevitably finds a fix, workaround, or bypass. Sometimes within a single day.

nonearther ,

The main issue is that no-one in past, be it movie, music, or gaming industry, had the control which Google has with the web.

Web is 90% Chromium, Email is 60+% Gmail, Android is 70+% mobile worldwide, and Google already provides a lot of things like Google login, oAuth, etc. for free.

This means for a web dev, making a website WEI compatible shouldn’t be much of a hassle, and if they protest, Google can totally twist their arms to get us way.

WEI is dangerous because who’s behind it, not because what it is.

Not to mention AdSense and YouTube with whatever percentages they control of their respective markets. Google holds a lot of separate monopolies for just one company

SkepticElliptic ,

This is how my buddy blew the engine on his insight. It was burning oil so long that it melted the spark plugs. He could have had it fixed for free but he didn’t know about it until that extension had ended.

I actually don’t know what was wrong with it because he never let me take a look for him. I offered to have an engine delivered to my house and me and another friend could have slapped a used engine in.

He was hellbent on buying a new car so he traded it in.

JillyB ,

A friend of mine had a very reliable car. Then he had to get new spark plugs and brake pads around the same time. He got tired of the car having “problems” so he got a…used mini cooper.

ZC3rr0r ,

Exactly. All the memes and stickers about letting the CEL stay on are funny, but if you don’t know what code is triggering the light, you are gambling with your car, or even your safety. Seriously people, get a CEL checked out, and then decide if you feel it’s worth fixing. Most auto parts stores, dealers, etc. will happily do it for you, often at no cost, but at least be an informed consumer instead of just hoping it will be okay.

rab ,

I have come to realize that largely, in the western world, it’s most common that people speak their own language and English. It just so happens that is the same language for many people.

dudewitbow ,

its because of how culturally relevant english is as a language to make others pick it up as a second language. Take for example coding, programming languages were mainly built around english monikers, so a very basic level of english understanding is helpful when doing that. Then you get to the large wall that is western, primarily American media and how its more or less it’s largest export.
