I just thought about the “Duh it’s fake” comments that were slowly inching me to insanity on reddit.
Please don’t bring this over to Lemmy. Please.
80% of popular posts had a popular comment saying something is staged or fake. It’s so uninteresting, unoriginal and beating a dead horse so to say. Even for litteral movie scenes we had popular comments saying it’s staged.
Sorry for the rant and it’s not particularly for your comment. It just was a massive trend I noticed on certain subreddits. Could probably farm karma just making a bot saying some variation of “it’s fake” to every posts.
Fake text messages are like the laugh track of the internet. There are plenty of absurd things that actually happen on the Internet so having to create fake situations cheapens authentically funny situations.
Sites like 9gag are filled with these things because they are low effort ways to make an unfunny joke plausibly funny.
Here’s the thing, how are you ever going to prove that a message is real or not? Maybe there’s a way to do it, but honestly that’s more effort than anyone is going to go through.
So you land at 2 situations, either you don’t post any messages ever, or stop complaining about it being fake in the comments because some people might find it entertaining, regardless of whether it’s real or not.
Together with hh:mm(:ss) for times and +hh:mm for timezones. Don’t make me deal with that 12am/pm bullshit that doesn’t make any sense, and don’t make make me look up just what the time difference is between CEST and IST. Just give me the offsets +02:00 and +05:30, and I can calculate that my local time of 06:55+03:30=10:25 in India.
There was a pirated copy of “We are the Champions” by Queen circulating LimeWire and Kazaa circa 2003 that’s given a generation of people mental whiplash.
Some hooligan thought it would be funny to splice/cut/edit “of the world” at the end of the song, so it concludes with “We are the champions” (jump cut / obvious splice) “of the wooooorld.”
There’s entire threads out there dedicated to finding that copy of the song because millions of people have heard it, but no one makes the connection between the hostile actors modifying those songs and sharing them on file-sharing applications versus the originals.
There were also numerous garage band covers circulating around also - “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana was a popular one to hear in extremely low quality with someone banging spoons or something.
I accidentally downloaded a version of Du Hast back in the day that had a whole bunch of StarCraft unit quotes mixed into it that my dad fell in love with, despite never playing StarCraft. He literally likes it better than the real version lol.
What do you mean? Didn’t Freddie sing it that way live? It doesn’t end that way on the studio recording? Did they edit the studio version to match the live renditions?
Oh man, the fucking sass in the comments of this post. You’re all so passionate about these things.
… And almost all of the arguments are whataboutisms. It’s a fucking race to the bottom with everyone.
All I’m going to say is that not voting is not a valid way to protest. That’s excluding yourself from the process, and letting others decide for you. Just go vote. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for, just go do it. Have your voice heard.
I realize this years vote for Americans will very likely turn into a competition of who is less bad of an option, but you need to still go out and cast a ballot. Please just do it. Please!
He was equally alert to the problem of voter fetishism: voters mistakenly thinking the vote is an exercise of power, when in fact power in a capitalist society is collective, social and located largely outside the parliamentary realm. Elections had a place, but they were no substitute for mass working-class action in the workplaces, streets and squares. Ultimately power must be wrested from the capitalist class in revolution.
For like 99% of people arguing that ‘voting is useless’ they are also not working towards any other method of improving society. Either by working towards unions, or effective means of protest or even violent revolution. They’re just opting out and doing nothing of value while feeling smug about being ‘above’ such petty squabbles.
If you are the 1% actually doing something of value that isn’t voting. Congrats, I guess? But I think I’m far more likely to convince someone to vote, which is at least somewhat helpful than I am to convince them to join a revolution.
Let’s hope you have the privilege to vote after Nov 5.
I can assure you they do not feel smug, or above the squabbles. They are probably more freaked out than the multitudes that think Trump can’t possibly win, or a Biden victory saves Democracy. It fundamentally sucks to see where America is headed, and be individually powerless to stop it.
Wait, is it the same Adin that shot his Cybertruck and then got mad because he broke the door he was shooting at?
I don’t know what confuses me more. The fact that he’s somehow dumb enough to do that, yet also capable of breathing and speech at the same time. Or that he probably has more money than I ever will because he’s that stupid.
