plus them asking gives a chance to say you’re on break or something vs them directly asking and then awkwardly needing to say “yes I could help you but I don’t want to right now ask someone else”
Ditto. You could find some weird stuff on there. I have a whole 4GB external SCSI drive sitting somewhere with a bunch of weird demos or bootlegs that I haven’t been able to find since because they were tagged by someone on acid
Soulseek was Amazing. What was cool is you could chat with people. I met a “Girl” from Israël and she made me discover a lot of cool rap bands like CunninLynguists. It was fun.
I remember using Napster and playing all these songs on Winamp on my computer in 1998. Amazing how all these years later music access is more restrictive, not easier.
Yeh this is insanity, everything is literally a voice command away today. Don’t know a song? Shazam on your pocket computer in the middle of the dance floor and you’ve got it.
Back in the day (I mean, PRIOR TO P2P), you’d have to pray the song was uploaded to mp3 galaxy or one of the other 3 websites on the internet that just had a list of 100-200 songs, then wait 24 hours for it to download and hope the connection doesn’t fail half way through so you have to start all over again.
This was, in my opinion, the golden age of the internet. Such a wild place to explore. Now it’s just megacorps controlling everything one way or another.
Everyone thinking Canadians are bilingual but it’s just we were forced to take french in school and can now say “ou est le supermarche?” and that’s it.
I took half that many years of Spanish, and that’s about all I remember too. Also, “tocar los pompes”. I feel like we do it all wrong here though. Language classes aren’t typically until high school, and by then your ability to learn languages is far less than when you are younger. It can still be done, but you have to want to, and teenagers have too much going on to care about speaking a language they haven’t used this far in their life.
i just remember “dios mio no es beno” from that 70’s show. i probably spelled that incorrectly.
although i cheated… i took 2 years of spanish in jr. high, and didn’t learn shit. so i took my native language in hs and college. got an a- in college.
Hey speak for yourself, I was forced into French immersion school by my parents with promises of good government jobs. Now I can understand French but Quebecois is a whole different beast 😂
As a teacher, I will say that my administration is constantly telling us to limit the number of kids in the hall, especially during the last period of the day. I let my kids go pretty much whenever but I do try to follow a two person in the hall rule. Some people absolutely abuse the right to go to the bathroom and wander the entire period or whatever. It’s usually pretty easy to discern who needs to actually use the bathroom and I tend to take it easy on them but I have rules to follow too. I really would prefer to just let my kids go and I dont care that much about if they talk a bit with friends but they can be so irresponsible and just leave for 40 mins, or go smoke weed in the bathroom (it’s really common in my school) or whatever.
