T2 is definitely the best terminator film, but you’re missing out if you discount all the sequels. Dark Fate at least is pretty darn good, and it’s basically a direct sequel to T2, so you don’t have to watch all the films in between.
I know nothing about it except that memes indicate people like it. I’m usually on board with a DreamWorks or Pixar movie but I’d mentally sorted this one into the ‘not for me’ category along with Minions for some reason (not intending to compare the two).
Yes, the first one is goofy but it did the whole “what would an actually average person do with superhero powers” shtick before it was cool, and managed to make it funny and pretty sweet too.
IMHO…fuck yes! It’s a funny and clever movie that should’ve gotten more recognition but was overshadowed by other releases that same year. As a grown man on the edge of 40 it’s one of my favorite movies and never fails to get a laugh. Endlessly quotable, lots of clever little jokes and gags that are hilarious when you notice them.
I’d say it’s absolutely worth at least one watch and if you like it enough to watch it again you’ll definitely notice some things that you didn’t the first time around and get a whole new set of laughs.
Yes, it’s a commentary on the way that generational systematic racism and overpolicing negatively impact black youths. And also a deconstruction of incel ideology.
I had genuinely forgotten about the sequel until I saw this. Started wondering how I had missed that and then I remembered it was a straight to streaming cash grab. Time to go back to being blissfully ignorant.
I had never heard of the sequel until a day or two ago when the YT algorithm fed me Schaffrillas’ video about it. I still haven’t actually watched it, and based on that review I think I’ll keep it that way.
This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it and it looks awful. That’s paw-patrol level of animation right there, and it definitely sits in the uncanny valley of animation for me.
All in all, “Tankie” is just the modern version of “Pinko!” I’ve seen Anarchists called Tankies, every manner of Marxists, non-Marxist Socialists, and more. It truly lost all of its meaning and is just Lemmy’s Red Scare.
A huge portion of that comes from Lemmy.world, which is the largest instance to defederate intentionally from Hexbear and Grad, which has the presumably unintended effect of making Zionists and other far-right wingers feel comfortable in an Anticommunist instance.
Unintended may be somewhat true, in that nobody explicitly had that as a conscious reason, but it was an obvious result that they could’ve known beforehand. So I don’t think it’s useful at all to call it unintended. Just an easily understood and expected side effect
lemmy.world has comments in their community, where they call for the nuking of developing countries, when they read news of social injustice. By that logic, their ‘civilized’ country should be nuked thrice, because cartoonishly evil, rich scumbags like Jeffrey Epstein and their associates still have a free pass for raping minors in their creepy sex-dungeons.
I’m starting to realize one of the biggest issues with the fediverse is how much tribalism is going to play a part in interactions between instances. It seems like every instance is going to have some absurd stereotypes that get repeated as fact.
Some people in .ml and hexbear were labeled tankies, accurately or not, and now you’re all tankies. And this post seems to be in response to that, saying the word tankie isn’t even a real thing. And now we have comments suggesting lemmy.world is also a unified group promoting certain ideologies. It’s the largest instance, we’re gonna have one-off crazies saying stupid stuff.
I know it does makes a small difference being on .world vs .ml/hexbear. But most people in both are leftists if what I’ve seen is accurate. We’re just being stereotypical leftist splintering ourselves into separate groups over the smallest differences.
And the biggest badasses I know also drive some of the crappiest cars and such too.
When more hilariously, here in Australia, I do a lot of hiking and such, and the badasses these days tend to be women. There’s a lot of macho guys who talk big, but I’ve done some scary hikes with elderly women and a woman with Parkinson’s.
The guys and women i.know who do the most crazy stuff also tend to be the most friendly people
As someone who has German as their second and English as their third language, I’ve never misunderstood that line like that. That’s hella funny though.
I like to be able to sing along to songs when I’m alone in the car, so even if I don’t understand the meaning of the words, I like to know the words.
I also enjoy word play, and Du Hast has some of that. So knowing the bit of trivia about ‘Hast’ and ‘Hasst’ being homophones in German and meaning ‘have’ and ‘hate’ respectively, and the main portion of the lyrics being wedding vows adds a layer of enjoyment to the song for me.
Personally, I prefer things I don’t understand because I don’t have to mentally deal with whatever bullshit they are saying. I can sing it a thousand times without ever thinking too much about it because I know the sounds and not the meaning of the words.
I can belt out a ton of Japanese or Russian music, because I started listening to help my language learning (classes, not self-guided), but I don’t actually understand the songs. I “know the words”, but that’s it.
