I don't get flickering from adaptive sync but my screen just goes black for a couple seconds every now and then when it is enabled, usually when playing. No idea why or if Windows would have the same issue.
I have a 5600X3D and 3070 and had issues with PopOS and Fedora but EndeavourOS which wraps arch works like a dream. Others have reported no issues with nvidia and PopOS and other distros but you may need to try more than 1
I can get some old ass terminal based JRPG and Sims 3 which can barely run on windows working using bottles but I can’t get the linux version of Hearts of Iron IV to recognize dlc wtf is this
I haven’t played HOI4 on Linux yet, but I’ve played other PDX games. They have just worked for me. I don’t know if you’re doing something different, but I just install the DLCs and they are instantly recognized.
especially if all those windows dual booting experiences from over 10 years ago which is now misinformation wasn’t kept commented like every time someone brings up dual booting
It should be, but I’ve had too many issues with windows somehow updating and ruining my boot partion/grub.
If I want to run windows, I only run it on a VM with hardware passthrough or on a totally different machine since physically unseating my Linux M.2 from the motherboard is too much hassle and I don’t want to move it to a PCIe card.
I used to kinda complain about this but being unable to play lol or lostark has greatly improved my life. I don’t mind being unable to play these games.
I am very grateful for proton and all of the technologies that allow me to play majority of my games. linux gaming in 2015 was painful.
If you gonna play the 3 games I can give some advice and some sadnews.
DAO is the oldest but works quite well on Linux, not a single problem.
DA2 need the fucking EA App crap bullshit to run, even on steam. Because of that crap I had a lot of problems with alt + tab, crashings, resolutions bug. To fix it I need to enable virtual desktop in the wineprefix with my monitor resolution, after that everything went smooth.
DAI again the stupid fuck EA App. If you are in the same situation than me: bought the game on Origin, not on steam, I have some bad news about mods. FrostyMods just doesn’t work and is the EA bullshit problem. With the steam version someone made a patch for linux and looks like it works.
I tried Lutris, Steam and Bottles, the bug with mods on DAI for what I understand is because the EA crap App doesn’t recognize launch options like Steam does so anything that depends on it doesn’t work, I don’t know why but with the Steam version you can pass I think was GAME_DATA_DIR option and Steam launches the game with the mods.
The bug on DA2 is probably EA not giving a shit with older games, the DAI, ME Andromeda and ME Legendary Edition doesn’t have it.
LOOT is definitely not anything new. I’m decently confident it’s been a thing for over a decade. To clarify: load order is important to make sure no incorrect files or assets are accidentally overwritten in the course of loading the mods onto the base game, as an incorrect load order can cause a lot of issues.
Regardless, it looks like there is a Linux compatible flatpak version on flathub. Here’s the GitHub page. I personally can’t say I’ve used LOOT on Linux, though, only on Windows, as my Skyrim modding days came before I made the switch, so your mileage may vary.
It’s not as easy as dragging and dropping some files due to how the game works, whether its linux or windows. You kind of need mod tools to properly make everything work well together, at least if you have more than just texture packs, anyways.
It’s definitely annoying and tedious to mod this game past using a couple mods. I personally keep my dual boot almost just to play modded Skyrim becuase I dont want to have to think about whether or not my game won’t run becuase of a molding error, or becuase I’m using non-native Linux molding tools on Linux. That way I can also just use the Wabbajack program as well to just auto mod the game for me since I’m tired of doing it myself at this point.
Proton/wine makes no security assurances, so it will be able to do anything that any other program you run is able to do. If a trojan or rat recognizes that it is running under wine, it can bring in some native Linux malware as well and it will execute just fine. forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=34573
