she wasn’t even disqualified for having high T. they disqualified her first and then did tests and later announced that she supposedly had XY chromosomes, which I don’t believe. I recommend reading through these sources and watching the official statement from the IOC spokesperson (time code added so you don’t have to watch the whole video):

nytimes.com/…/boxer-quits-gender-angela-carini-im…

olympics.com/…/joint-paris-2024-boxing-unit-ioc-s…

youtu.be/https://youtube.com/live/QxeIRI2Qcag?t=1…

I personally believe that IBA was butthurt about her beating a Russian boxer or got bribed into disqualifying her, and then made up the gender test bullshit to justify it. now the transphobes used this opportunity to pretend to care about women’s sports and attack trans people, even though imane khelif is definitely 100% not trans:

unicef.org/…/top-female-boxer-imane-khelif-dreams…

EDIT: the livestream i linked to was taken down. i looked on their youtube channel and theres a video with only the relevant part. you can watch it here: youtu.be/D4HiUIX9o00?si=UWz3uqCDXBhg98cI

EDIT EDIT: nvm I’m stupid, I fucked up the link lmao. here is the working link to the Livestream: youtube.com/live/QxeIRI2Qcag?t=1912

she did not get disqualified due to testosterone levels, see my other comment

it’s a good term, it refers to lots of thinks. there are many terms like that.

@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

the word program refers to even more things and no one says it’s a bad word.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

if you actually read and watched the statements from the IOC you would know that khelif was not disqualified by the IBA for having high testosterone (they never did a testosterone test) and instead decided to disqualify her first and then look for a reason and accused her of having XY chromosomes, which I personally don’t believe.

my thoughts after using arch as my first distro

I’ve been daily driving arch Linux as my main distro for quite a while now, as a replacement for windows 11 (I refuse to use windows 11 for longer than it takes to download a Linux iso and format it into a usb). Installing it on my laptop wasnt my first time ever using it, but it was my first time really getting into any Linux...

I personally stay away from arch because it’s too easy, NixOS ftw. it’s definitely not holding me hostage, don’t send help I’m totally fine I’m not being tortured by Nix

Outsourcing emotion: The horror of Google’s “Dear Sydney” AI ad | The company suggests using AI to write a child’s fan letter and the ad is so bad that Google turned off comments for it on YouTube (arstechnica.com)

If you’ve watched any Olympics coverage this week, you’ve likely been confronted with an ad for Google’s Gemini AI called “Dear Sydney.” In it, a proud father seeks help writing a letter on behalf of his daughter, who is an aspiring runner and superfan of world-record-holding hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone....

you have to be careful with hormones, they irreparably and permanently change your body. my body was filled with testosterone until I was 16 and it has destroyed my body. it even changed my bones. i really really regret not going on hrt earlier, all of this could’ve been prevented.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

no, not really. the improvement gets less noticeable as it approaches the limit, but I’d say the speed at which it improves is still the same. especially smaller models and context window size. there’s now models comparable to chatgpt or maybe even gpt 4.0 (I don’t remember, one or the other) with context window size of 128k tokens, that you can run on a GPU with 16gb of vram. 128k tokens is around 90k words I think. that’s more than 4 bee movie scripts. it can “comprehend” all of that at once.

77% Of Employees Report AI Has Increased Workloads And Hampered Productivity, Study Finds (www.forbes.com)

the larger context sizes specifically are what I’m fascinated by. imagine running an LLM locally and feeding it all your data. appointments, relationships, notes whatever. you could also connect it to smart Home devices. I really need to get my hands on a GPU with 16 gigs of vram

Sponsorblock, i have it too. it might break if they add ads server side. though im sure sponsorblock and ublock would find workarounds. those workarounds dont exist yet tho afaik

yes, you can download SD1.5 models that will generate all kinds of degenerate images for you and deneutered LLMs that will write the most disgusting smut you’ve ever seen. all of it locally, free and 100% private.

very unlikely to stem from model collapse. why would they use a worse model? it’s probably because they neutered it or gave it less resources.

ai videos are getting really good. it’s terrifying

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

even better, what lora did you use.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

true. it kinda sucks seeing people argue against ai when they don’t understand it. like, there’s many things to criticize about ai, I’m not saying they’d like ai if they knew more about it. I just wish their hatred was more educated.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

I’m talking about LoRA, not LoRa. I’m a fan of both though. I’ve been considering getting a Lilygo T-Echo to run Meshtastic for a while. Maybe build a solar powered RC plane and put a Meshtastic repeater in there, seems like a cool project.

en.wikipedia.org/…/Fine-tuning_(deep_learning)Low-rank adaptation (LoRA) is an adapter-based technique for efficiently fine-tuning models. The basic idea is to design a low-rank matrix that is then added to the original matrix.[13] An adapter, in this context, is a collection of low-rank matrices which, when added to a base model, produces a fine-tuned model. It allows for performance that approaches full-model fine-tuning with less space requirement. A language model with billions of parameters may be LoRA fine-tuned with only several millions of parameters.

0laura ,

you not liking it doesn’t make it any less ai. I don’t remember that many people complaining when we called the code controlling video game characters ai.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

I know that they’re “autocorrect on steroids” and what that means, I don’t see how that makes it any less ai. I’m not saying that LLMs have that magic sauce that is needed to be considered truly “intelligent”, I’m saying that ai doesn’t need any magic sauce to be ai. the code controlling bats in Minecraft is called ai, and no one complained about that.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

look at the NBT tags for bats for example. it means artificial intelligence.

www.digminecraft.com/data_tags/bat.php

provably wrong. www.digminecraft.com/data_tags/bat.php look at the nbt tags, specifically the description of the no AI nbt tag

I showed you proof that AI is sometimes used to mean artificial intelligence when describing code that controls video game enemies.

I don’t really see your argument? it seems that you agree with me. ai doesn’t always refer to AGI. sometimes it refers to AGI, sometimes it refers to the code controlling the little ghosts in pacman, or the code controlling the bats in Minecraft. sometimes it refers to the machine learning algorithm that can detect numbers in an image, and sometimes it refers to generative AI like stable diffusion. my point is that ai is a very broad term that refers to many different things.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

it’s always been this broad, and that’s a good thing. if you want to talk about AGI then say AGI.

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

with Loras you could get all the shit you want

proprietary algorithms owned by big corporations

tell that to civitai users lol

0laura ,
@0laura@lemmy.world avatar

you could use the models to train the models to get better at making new things.
