ouch , in Three Weeks in Veloren 215

How does Veloren compare to Minetest in maturity and other things?

tallwookie , in Recommend me a game

minesweeper? /s

ExLisper OP ,

Does it run on Linux?

Contort3860 ,
@Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org avatar

I’m pretty sure there has to be some form of Minesweeper available for Linux.

milliams ,

Indeed, KMines.

Contort3860 ,
@Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org avatar

And I’m pretty sure it won’t be the only one either.

angrymouse , in Will FSR 3 frame generation work at all on Linux?

I think it will work well considering that AMD is the provider of processor and GPU/apu of steam deck

H2207 OP ,
@H2207@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah good point, I forgot about the Steamdeck. So AMD themselves will probably make an effort to get it working then.

0xb , in Will FSR 3 frame generation work at all on Linux?
@0xb@lemmy.world avatar

I certainly hope so, it being one of the things that would actually improve the viability of Linux as a viable platform for gaming big time.

But seeing how we are just gonna see freesync support with kernel 6.5, I think definitely will take a long time.

H2207 OP ,
@H2207@lemmy.world avatar

Well Freesync is probably a bit more complicated to implement than FSR 3 considering the scope, Freesync works in-games and in the desktop so I imagine the display server and compositor need to support it. To me FSR 3 seems nothing more than a driver update and a new version of wine / proton.

Presi300 ,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

Kernel 6.5 is gonna have freesync? Pog

falsem ,

How's that different than VRR or TearFree which we already have?

juipeltje ,
@juipeltje@lemmy.world avatar

I’m confused by this as well.

Molecular0079 ,

Eh? Pretty sure freesync was already a thing before kernel 6.5.

sugar_in_your_tea ,

FreeSync seems to work fine for me since switching to an AMD GPU. Does it not work for you?

0xb ,
@0xb@lemmy.world avatar

I think I read the changelog wrong because apparently freesync has been a thing in the kernel since a while back. Probably just some improvement being implemented in 6.5

To be honest I haven’t ever tested because while my display technically supports it, it’s a pretty basic display with not a lot or Hz range so I haven’t bothered to check.

sugar_in_your_tea ,

I mostly notice because I have two displays with different refresh rates, so it’s pretty noticable.

synapse1278 , in Will FSR 3 frame generation work at all on Linux?
@synapse1278@lemmy.world avatar

FSR2 works well on Linux, I think FSR3 will be supported fairly soon after Windows, thanks to the mesa driver.

Molecular0079 ,

Does it even require driver support? I was under the impression that FSR 2 only required the game to support it and provide inputs.

H2207 OP ,
@H2207@lemmy.world avatar

Inputs to the driver probably.

Poopmeister , in Recommend me a game

If running it on proton is an option I would recommend outer wilds. Fantastic in every aspect!

    WoW still runs great under Wine.

    bosnia ,

    OSRS is native when using Runelite. Unfortunately, Jagex is soon making its launcher the only way to sign in and they refuse to make a version for Linux. Heard it works fine through wine though.

    epchris , in Good MMORPG on Linux

    I don’t know about natively, but I’ve played both FFXIV and EVE Online in Linux in the past, and they ran well, but it’s been a little bit.

    Can’t really recommend it though, but it seems to be pretty popular.

    HoloPengin , in Good MMORPG on Linux

    Stop caring about native. It seriously just doesn’t matter anymore.

    XIV Launcher is the easiest way to get FF XIV running, plus it can link to your phone to almost automatically handle OTP (no typing it in, your phone just sends the code over your local network), but you could also just install the trial inside Steam, should work fine.

    Copypasta time. “Did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions up to level 70 with no restrictions on playtime? Sign up, and enjoy Eorzea today!”

    nitefox ,

    I got banned two times for playing on Linux with FFXIV

    HoloPengin , (edited )

    Gaben is also an FF XIV player, and Proton always gets a hotfix like a day after anything breaks (usually it’s the launcher).

    If bans from playing on Linux (or at least the deck) were common there’d be a lot more info about it like there is for other games. Just don’t cheat or use sketchy mods. I’ve only played on Linux (all AMD tbf, both desktop and steam deck, so the drivers are good) and have never had a problem.

    nitefox ,

    I guess it was implied, but I didn’t use cheats. After a few times playing, I always got banned for whatever reason

    maengooen ,

    I ran savages for over a year before burning out, all on Linux, never banned. YMMV

    nitefox ,

    I loved that character, now I’m mad

    please_lemmy_out ,

    Agreed, Proton and other alternatives work great!

    grorbabrag , in Good MMORPG on Linux

    Again not natively unfortunately, but Guild Wars 2 runs pretty well, even on the steam deck!

    The base game is free to play, so no problem in testing it.

    simongeorges , in Good MMORPG on Linux
    @simongeorges@jlai.lu avatar

    I have played at least Albion Online and Wakfu that run natively without any trouble, and work quite great. Lots of other run quite great using Steam compatibility layer or Lutris.

    Not really a mmorpg, but you really should try Baldur’s gate 3, runs great on linux

    ProtonBadger ,

    Love that game so much, I waited for it for 20 years and it exceeds my dreams!

    Funny enough the DirectX version is stable on Proton but there are still a few crashes in Vulkan mode.

    maengooen ,

    Am I the only one who crashes every other cutscene and every 30 minutes of gameplay?

    DrRatso ,

    Are you running it on X11 or Vulkan. Lots of people reported crashes on Vulkan, seems to work fine with X11 on GTX 1660 for me, not a crash.
