What method you use? Lutris or just adding as non-steam game?

lutris

@DrDominate@lemmy.world avatar

I have a question for you. I noticed the client is really sluggish on Linux though it wasn’t on windows. Did you notice something similar?

swnt OP ,
@swnt@feddit.de avatar

I did notice the sluggishness as well. but I didn’t mind much

Bondrewd , in Rust on Linux

Oh the good ol cracked server days. I played so much on rust legacy with cracked servers back in 2014…

isVeryLoud , in Lutris game manager v0.5.14 adds EA App integration, expanded Flatpak support

I feel like there’s a lot of overlap between Lutris and Bottles, where do they differ?

appoloin ,

With Lutris you can script the install process.

Kory ,
@Kory@lemmy.ml avatar

Lutris also serves as one place for all your games. That can be quite convenient if you have games on many different accounts/services.

warmaster ,

Doesn’t Bottles provide that feature too?

Amaltheamannen , in 14 years after playing League Of Legends for the first time ever, I, today, played it on Linux!

My condolences at having to play league

swnt OP ,
@swnt@feddit.de avatar

Why condolences?

I don’t feel like I’m addicted to it I just play Aram a few times a week - and I have a plentiful life outside of LoL

SkyeStarfall ,

It’s mostly an inside joke that people who play league are worse off for it. Don’t take it too seriously.

swnt OP ,
@swnt@feddit.de avatar

Ah, okay. Yes, I can understand that now

I first thought this was about the programming language rust.

I am out of the loop, do you mean as native or in proton?

I wonder how well the EA App will work - not because of Lutris, but because of how broken it is. Many people still cannot play games they have purchased for many months now. EA doesn’t care and is still selling games on Steam that are broken due to their shitty launcher. For a while, some solutions to keep using Origin worked, but not anymore, least for me.

On a different note: when will this update be out on Flathub? I can’t seem to find that info anywhere. Anyone knows?

HouseWolf ,

I’ve been running the EA app through Lutris as just a regular program and it works “fine”, Sometimes it crashes on launch but all games I’ve played through it from Battlefield to Titanfall 2 have worked.

Funnily one of the things that got me to try Linux was the EA App randomly stopped working on my Win10 install. Seriously how has EA kept their desktop client such a buggy messes after all this time? Origin was a load of crap but I still had less issues overall with it.

Kory ,
@Kory@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes I’ve been running it like that too but sadly many games don’t work with the EA App at all. Just by a glance at the official forums one finds lots of threads complaining about it, asking how to keep using Origin instead and the like. Respectively on Steam, same complaints. I’m having the “you don’t own this game” issue with Mass Effect 3 since June now and there is no fix. And I own it of course. Been playing Multiplayer for years now. I was just hoping that with the integration to Lutris some of the issues might get addressed.

Kory ,
@Kory@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh wow, that really fixed it. That’s a huge win, great job Lutris!

Kory ,

Flathub has been updated by now.

That’s great!! Glad to hear it!

Since you mention it, I’ll add that teams-for-linux works better for me than the official MS Teams in the browser. And for MS Office I haven’t had any trouble using LibreOffice as a replacement.

swnt OP ,
@swnt@feddit.de avatar

Yeah, I’m using both all the time. Funny that you mention the teams Problems. My camera 9nly works ok Linux Teams but not on Windows 😂

I’m already using libre office all the time - but aside from gaming I heard that office is the only reason to still use windows. But I just need any document editor - not ms office - so that’s a no brainer for me But for some people at work when MS documents are sent via email and edited - then sometim3s it just doesn’t cut it.

TwinHaelix ,
@TwinHaelix@reddthat.com avatar

Productivity in general is the only reason to still use Windows. Office is a big one (though great alternatives like LO and OnlyOffice exist), but also Adobe products, pro audio software, etc.

Matty_r ,
@Matty_r@programming.dev avatar

I’d have to say OnlyOffice is starting to replace LibreOffice for me. Its a much nicer experience, and the UI is more like Office.

LinusOnLemmyWld , in (MicroOS) Starfield 1440p Ultra - 7900X 7900XTX

I’m running it as 4k on arch Linux with a 7900xtx getting about 60fps with fsr turned on at 80% resolution

BrownianMotion , in Rust on Linux
@BrownianMotion@lemmy.world avatar

You’ll also find Rust in the Linux Kernel. Of course you have to turn EAC ripper off, that is a Microsoft program and won’t run in Linux natively.

naticus ,

Am I missing something here? Rust on the Linux Kernel is in reference to the programming language, not the game so I can’t tell if you’re mistaking the OP’s topic or I’m missing your sarcasm.

nintendiator , in Steam Flatpak or running steam from Bazzite distrobox container. Which one is better for gaming ?

Debian schroot in a distro. Give the user in the schroot access to the snd device. Install Steam in the schroot. There, done. It’s even portable.

zyberteq , in (MicroOS) Starfield 1440p Ultra - 7900X 7900XTX

People are saying this? Well I’m running it on Pop!_OS 3440x1440 with a Ryzen 5600 and 6900XT at at least 60fps. Unsure at the FSR or scaling level though, but it’s not bothering me. And my perception of performance and quality is what actually matters.

malchior , in (MicroOS) Starfield 1440p Ultra - 7900X 7900XTX

The performance for this game is garbage considering how poor the graphics are. Was a quick refund, I’ll wait for the ultra turbo deluxe goty edition for $20 in half a decade.

Mereo ,

Having learned my lessons in the past, I’m now a patient gamer. It’s great to play a game 2 years (sometimes a year) after its release. By then they have patched all the annoying bugs and optimized the game.

JoeKrogan ,
@JoeKrogan@lemmy.world avatar

Yes its the way to go and its a great way to save money. I try to spend a maximum of 50 per year. I usually grab a few things in the steam sale . I find it forces me to play through stuff and really think about if will I play it. It turns out 50 will go a long way and I usually end up with 8ish new games a year.

Haha, yes.

Peter1986C ,
@Peter1986C@lemmings.world avatar

TBH I currently only “own” the game because of a voucher tied to my RX6600. Else I would have waited, too.

Sidenote: in 1080p it runs at ~50-60FPS without FSR (native resolution). Plays on Windows and Linux about evenly well, albeit that I have seen some graphical glitches (on Linux, did not try to reproduce them on Windows 10) e.g. my follower doing a bl*ckface for no reason.
