You wear a tinfoil cap to keep the radio waves from controlling your brain.

I wear a tinfoil cap to keep my brain’s waves from interfering with nearby electronics.

We are not the same.

Where is says panel 1 is the correct place for the connectors to the front of the case. Two of those pins are for the power button. Make sure the connector that says pwr, both + and -, are connected to the pins on the board that are labeled pwr.

That’s just a sanity check to make sure the power button is correctly connected. Something less common could be the power button is broken but we won’t go there just yet.

Switching from Nvidia to AMD Graphics

I finally did it and got an used RX 6950 XT to replace my GTX 1080 Ti. I’ve been using this card ever since I moved to Linux and now I’m wondering what exactly I have to do. On Windows it’s mostly run DDU and install the new AMD drivers, everything else will probably work the same with Afterburner etc....

DrDominate ,
@DrDominate@lemmy.world avatar

That 1080ti deserves a rest, but I would totally build a second PC with it

Most Linux users can search for a package they need to uninstall by keyword. You can’t really do the same with Regedit. The key and path in the post are something even fewer people can find because regedit is so cryptic.

‘We will fight with our fingernails’ says Netanyahu after US threat to curb arms (www.theguardian.com)

Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Israel will stand alone and “fight with our fingernails” in defiance of US threats to further restrict arms deliveries if Israeli forces proceeded with an offensive on the southern Gazan city of Rafah....

Israel’s ministry of peace said on Thursday that the withholding of arms would pose no obstacle to the swift end to the looming Hamas threat. They added - All previous Palestine land will be ready for Israel citizen settlements by next spring. /s In case that’s necessary.

I love AMD cards, but they seem to be wrongly adamant in their opinion that their cards are worth as much as nvidia cards. Nor do they have the right to be asking so much from such small share of the graphics market.

I don’t think we can rule out god on this one, he may have a vested interest here.

'Horrific' violence at UCLA after counter-protesters attack pro-Palestinian camp (www.bbc.com)

Violence erupted at the University of California, Los Angeles after pro-Israeli counter-demonstrators attacked a pro-Palestinian campus encampment. Bubbling tensions on the campus boiled over following the alleged breach of a “buffer zone” between the rival groups.

@DrDominate@lemmy.world avatar

Your school’s protests against violence is making the school unsafe and therefore it’s the schools fault for the violence that falls upon it. That’s basically what they said.

I certainly thought it had to be just some normal prayer or maybe a Latin chant, but no. Its all of them independently and incoherently muttering to their god while kneeling over the state seal. Separation of church and state is long dead it seems.

Honestly, if this laptop is primarily for work, then you should stick to windows. Keep the workflow the same as your coworkers so issues aren’t blamed on your abnormal setup. You’re already using un-privacy work related apps like zoom either way right?

Unless you really have the time and inclination to iron out these bugs on your work machine, then save Linux for your personal computer. It would help to get used to the environment and how stuff works rather than jumping in cold.

Linux has come a really far way since I remember tinkering with it in high school, but it’s still “not quite there” yet. Crazy improvements are happening all the time though with community effort. Though idk if it will ever be at the point where it works out of the box for everyone.

But they were all decieved, for another license was made. Forged in secret.

DrDominate ,

Yeah, but I have to feel sympathy for the devs here. Definitely need a game Dev Union strike like the writers strike did, I think. Though that’s difficult to pull off.

San Andreas as in the one released on the ps2? You could play it with the PCSX2 emulator. You can install that as a runner in lutris, from the AUR (arch), flatpack, or app image. Then get the iso however you would.

We live for no other reason than that we can. Against all odds, in a universe that wasn’t trying to make us alive, we became more than the sum of our elements that compose us: to be the thinking and thriving things that we are - for as long as we are. Life itself is an act of defiance against the universe, but ultimately playing by it’s rules with the understanding that we can only do so for a finite amount of time.

Your cat too was one of those defiant and emergent souls that used the universe as it’s playground full of strangers, bullies, and friends alike. Never forget that which it did not know: that its time was short but miraculous in the grand scheme of a universe borne of chaos but twinkling with unexpected life.

IDK if you know this, but renewables aren’t on their own to cover all of our power needs everywhere.

DrDominate ,

Are we talking about the same thing? I’m talking about nuclear energy not nukes. And if you are talking about nuclear power plants, in what world do you think it’s impossible to build enough to have a meaningful impact? Each power plant produces a crazy amount of energy. Far more than solar and wind can. Solar and wind by themselves will in no way overtake fossil fuel power plants fast enough. Nuclear energy would be a great replacement until then.

When I first got into ps2 emulation I tried Jak and Dexter and it worked great. The only issue were the eyes of character models were wonky as hell and would often look in different directions, not load, broken textures, etc. I snapped this screenshot of Jak right after the green sage yelled at him and he stood at attention with his eyes crossed. I use this photo for everything now even though it’s so tiny you can’t see his eyes.

14 years after playing League Of Legends for the first time ever, I, today, played it on Linux!

I’ve been playing LoL since a long time - practically since my friends etc. started it in 2009. I was on windows back then and moved slowly and slowly to Linux via dual boot. These days I only used windows for gaming and Linux (Ubuntu) for everything else....
