But discord supports sending messages to people who are offline. It kind of breaks the paradigm if certain features require full synchronous communication. Maybe supporting p2p transfers during a video / voice chat would work though.

That said, I haven’t seen or felt much change from early 30s vs late 30s, compared to a huge difference from early vs late 20s. My dad is almost 70 and I think of him as young-ish. Certainly not old anyway (although I know plenty of people a bit younger than him that I consider “old”.) I asked him recently what he considers old and he said 85 or so. Guess it’s all relative.
I sure do. It’s surprising you would disagree, so I’d guess that you are either very young yourself, or unaware of the facts. I’m almost north of the 40 border and the interns and junior associates at work literally look like children to me.
I’m not a neurologist but it’s pretty much understood and accepted that brains aren’t fully formed until 24 or 25, particularly in terms of judgement and rational though and emotion.
I’m an SME in a technical field (tax) so I need only refer to literally any thread to see abundant examples of petulant whiny children screaming about technical shit they don’t understand. Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downbean. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private beannote explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to beannotes within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downbean appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.

Maybe that was their game with the federation stuff. “Hey we didn’t start this, we were just following suit on this open source project”. I think Elon is trying to say they’re stealing IP because lots of the Twitter employees he fired went to work on Threads. This is probably where the fediverse stuff comes in clutch, as they’re just implementing ActivityPub, so it’s not like it’s industry secrets or anything.
Usually when I get a really dumb comment from someone, I look at their profile and the only thing they ever talk about is sports. Not my idea, just an observation.
For a little I while liked watching my karma gradually climb, with a feeling that I was contributing something. But… then I realised that one shit-post on a popular subreddit can routinely ‘earn’ more karma than 1000 high quality posts on smaller subreddits. … And with that realisation, I no longer saw any value in the karma score whatsoever.
I think it’s best that it’s gone. It skewed people to make low-effort posts in high-traffic places rather than high-effort posts in low-traffic place.
The problem of caring about karma was that after a while it was evident that effort, accuracy, attitude…none of it mattered, atleast for comments. It became mostly really easy to predict how a comment would be received, with a few exceptions from cross post traffic that would shake up the votes in waves as they were posted and down/upvote brigades flooded in.
