Socialists who have lived in different countries: what differences did you notice in their labour movement?

Every place has its different environment, whether it be the level of organisation, reputation of socialism, dominant values of society, history and experiences, conflicts and crises. Because of these dynamics, I’d expect to see stark differences in what the movement looks like around the world. An obvious example familiar to...

Matrix let-down

I’ve been trying to use Matrix to replace sites like Discord or Slack. But it seems that if a user creates an invitation-only room in a server, then invited users who are registered on other servers get errors when trying to join. Not very useful error messages either: “Failed to join room”. (In my case, I tried creating...

How do you use your user tags in your app?

So quite a few lemmy clients have a tagging feature for users. I use it quite constantly because I like to remember who I’m talking to. Though for some I just use it for descriptors. A few of you are listed as stubborn, a few of you are listed as don’t engage, a few are Nice, or helpful, or Pug. I believe one of you is just...

Layered encryption?

If we consider information to be safe if we encrypt it (e.g., text in a file, encrypted with modern strong encryption), would it be safer (as in harder to crack) if we then encrypted the encrypted file, and encrypted the encrypted^2 file, etc.? Is this what strong encryption already does behind the scenes?
