Worst Avatar cosplay ever.

Worst? This was 2000. James Cameron was there, man. He saw it all and he KNEW he had to speak for the long silenced blue people among us.

Avatar came 9 years after this picture, dude.

That would make sense why the cosplay is so terrible.

DMBFFF OP ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

if Avatar was their intention—which it probably wasn’t—because, again, the movie wouldn’t be out for about 9 years—they probably didn’t know of it until it happened—you know, linear time.

There:

now nobody (or fewer people) will be offended and/or traumatized by the sight of 2 topless women in blue body paint with taped nipples.

Perhaps I should delete it and put this porn on LemmyNSFW.

recursive_recursion ,
@recursive_recursion@programming.dev avatar

it’s not offensive,

  • just something people wouldn’t want to see if they’ve set NSFW disabled so it’s just common courtesy in marking our posts properly

anyways thanks!

DMBFFF OP ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

because the pic is NSFW—it could get someone fired or expelled.

boatsnhos931 ,

Oh scissor me taggers harder

bobs_monkey ,

You realize NSFW stands for Not Safe For Work, and that most of us read that as basically be careful opening in public, yeah? A number of people have quite conservative bosses that probably wouldn’t appreciate someone looking at even slightly risque images in the workplace, or sitting next to someone on public transit that might cause a stink.

It’s just a common courtesy.

DMBFFF OP , (edited )
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

Very well, from now on, I will be more censorious and mark most of the images or videos of women I post here as NSFW.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُ.مْ

atzanteol ,

It’s not censorship. 🙄

DMBFFF OP ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, you are correct: technically it’s not censorship, as neither Lemmy.World, nor it’s mods and admins, have forbidden me from posting it elsewhere without tags. I am free to post it on other instances and on reddit without the NSFW tag.

bobs_monkey ,

I don’t believe you’re this dense. It’s a fucking tag so people know that something may not be appropriate for everyone to see when you’re in public, it has absolutely nothing to do with censorship. Pull your head out of your ass.

Hi back.

It is now 17:55 UTC (1:55 PM EDT), Friday, 21 June 2024—apparently over 15 hours after I posted the above reply.

I’ve done a quick check on WP on porn and NSFW, and of those who’ve complained if they are mods of this community or admins, and satisfied that they aren’t, have decided to revert all that I’ve posted as NSFW to remove the NSFW tags.

If a mod, admin, and/or someone with a decent argument for wants it to have a NSFW tag, I’ll probably put it back.

Thank you.

How dare you, those nipples are sacred and not at all identical to male nipples… good heavens! Think of the children that could see them and perhaps suck on them! C’mon!!!

laranis , to selfhosted in A friend joked about making accounts for their dog on self hosted services, so that it could turn lights on and off. What are some unconventional things you've seen for pets and homelabs?

I have a self-filling, self-cleaning water bowl for my dogs. With two Great Danes, keeping the water bowl clean and full is a chore.

Right now it uses a digital timer and does an empty/fill cycle 16 times per day using those capacitive water sensors for the level setting and overflow detection. In a future iteration I plan on incorporating MQTT via WiFi for alerts and manual control.

snail_hunter ,

What brand is it? I currently have a gravity fed 2 gallon bowl but fully self filling would be great.

thegreekgeek ,
@thegreekgeek@midwest.social avatar

I would also like to know this, best I could come up with was one of those electric water cooler pumps that fit over the top of the bottle.

laranis ,

It is a DIY setup. We had one of those bottle setups like you describe. For my big dogs all it did was slowly become more slobber than water. I realized the problem wasn’t more water but getting rid of the slobber.

Post above describes what I did if you’re interested.

johntash ,

Self cleaning? Is it something you made or what’s the name is it? I’d be interested in details either way

I really want a fancier water fountain for my cats but never found a self cleaning one :(

laranis ,

It is a DIY setup. Basically is a sink bowl with the logic of a sump pump with high/low floats (couple of relays and sensors), a fountain pump to drain to a nearby sink, and a valve to fill. The timer drains the water every hour and the fill part is essentially a cheap shower head aimed at an angle so when it is draining and filling at the same time the water is swirling, making it (mostly) self-cleaning. I wipe the inside and outside every week or so just to make sure it is working and isn’t growing anything.

Biggest worry since it is DIY is that something will fail and flood my house. I have a separate high level sensor that closes the valve, starts the pump, and sounds an alarm to help with that, and one of those cheap, warbling 9v water sensors nearby just in case.

johntash ,

Sounds pretty cool, thanks for the details! Any chance of some pictures? My worry would be the same, I don’t know if I trust myself not to flood the house lol

I did think about using a mechanical float like in the back of a toilet, and an overflow drain in case it never stops filling

NeoNachtwaechter ,

Interesting idea. It needs one big stepper motor, I guess. Do you know a specific type that’s strong enough?

ikidd ,

Could just use a regular DC motor and limit switches.

Madison420 ,

Linear actuator, that’s literally how the commercial units work. Most are step capable either addon or built in and some have built in close resistance tests so you don’t mush the puppy or a kid or whatever is running about your house.

If you just Amazon automatic sliding door linear you’ll get results for units you can wire into your own setup. They’re Chinese but you can use it as a base to build better or simply an example to do the same.

Essentially the TV just plays whatever data is there on that frequency band. When there is nothing on the channel, it picks up background radiation from space; cosmic gamma rays that just happened to have lengthened to the wavelengths that the TV happens to be playing on.
