Public Libraries are struggling and looking for relevance in the modern world. Libraries brought us the Dewey Decimal System, and early attempt to “categorize all the world’s information and make it useful,” as was Google’s claimed original goal.
A coalition of public libraries and data-scientists seems like the path to me. Libraries are already in the business of categorizing and organizing information, sooooooo.
Well first off, if you’re building a NAS, build it out of drives that are rated for NAS use. Seagate’s IronWolf line is a bit pricier than their BarraCuda but has better transfer speeds and (more importantly) better resiliency to vibration, which is important if you’re putting a half dozen drives in the same enclosure and don’t want them to fail prematurely.

Which certainly seems antisemitic. I tracked down that claim to a Gawker article from October 2005 which said the above quote came from his website. It was hard to track down because all the news orgs link to his website’s homepage which substantially changed multiple times since then and eventually stopped existing entirely, and it wasn’t very easily navigable at the time. But here’s the page being cited. It’s…pretty fucking wild.
