It's the country codes for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (Deutschland for the D, Confederation Helvetica for the CH). Those are the three countries with a majority of their people speaking German other than Liechtenstein, which is extremely small
I think one reason is the large number of German users on the Internet. With around 100 million speakers, German is the second most spoken native language in the West after English.
According to the application texts, many users seem to come from various podcasts. We are also “endorsed” by one of the largest German-language subreddits on its front page (r/ich_iel). Our users have also started to watermark their memes, which occasionally attracts new users. Feddit also made it into an article in a popular IT magazine (heise).
No idea. But they said “German is the second most spoken native language in the West after English” whereas the wikipedia article is on Europe, so that would exclude Latin America if it’s part of the west. I believe if they are included, they absolutely dwarf the number of German speakers.
Ohhh that’s going to piss off Greek Nazis. The fascist Junta back in the days was all in on “we’re western we’re the source of everything western we are the west”, not to mention “Turks are filthy pigs we have nothing in common with them”, meanwhile, the music.
Generally internet culture In the Dach region is very active and forward looking, and potentially ideologically aligned with the idea of Fediverse and generally FOSS software and privacy. E.g. for Wikipedia language share German got overtaken by Spanish only within the last 5 years slipping from 2nd to 3rd suggesting some early adopter and internet participation higher than the norm.
Subjectively a lot of people here have uneasiness with big tech, and are relatively informed about alternatives.DACH on Reddit was also very big, and very ideologically opposed to API changes and general Reddit corpo behaviour. Subjectively again Dach and ich_iel felt like home when I joined, essentially like the Reddit culture I was used to, just with a little more progressive views across the board.
Also I suspect that German language speakers are fairly active within the English speaking parts of the internet in general, while Spanish and French as well as other non Germanic languages seem to have more disdain for English language content and sites, Germans and Dutch as well as Nordics are very comfortable with English as a common language.
That’s because they had to put the Elon’s Twitter sign. Which is why I am not big fan of this kind of old school satire. It’s a little on the nose Everything has to have signs, subtitles and arrows so even the dumbest people can understand them. While I understand the need for that, it makes the jokes fall flat for me.
Not only would you lose your SSN as an american citizen, you would also lose your credit score due to automated identity theft and possibly your mortgage (and more!)
Ask them politely to lower it. If they don’t, you have two options:
A. Leave your seat to go find a security guard, missing part of the show in the process and potentially having this person fuck with you for the rest of the show in retaliation.
B. Rip that shit straight out of their hands and toss it to the lower arena. They’ll have no idea who did it because their view was blocked by their umbrella. Don’t have to miss a second of the show.

The poor sobs who got their head smacked with a thrown umbrella wouldn’t know who did it either.
I usually just articulate to them exactly the messed up the thing is that they are doing in a way that they have to aknowlage it. Then they have a choice, they can either say oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that and fix it. 99% of people don’t like having to aknowlage they are an asshole. They would rather you think they are stupid, not an asshole. OR, they say suck my balls and do it anyway. At that point all options are on the table.
So that’s why all the conservatives are laughing and cheering. I was wondering why they were celebrating. They are accomplishing their mission of killing us all.
“Them libs want to protest the climate issue? Well fuck em, let’s burn more oil and make more profit for those companies! That’ll show them snowflake protestors!”
This is literally the mindset we’re up against. They’ve been brainwashed so hard into “owning libs”, and have their tongues so far up billionaire’s arseholes, they have lost any sense of empathy, sympathy, and basic intelligence. We’re all fucked.
Part of the problem with being socially minded is that your representatives tend to be less inclined to abuse their power to disingenuously manipulate useful idiots. We’d rather educate them than manipulate them, but they’re too stupid to know the difference.
Don’t worry, they’re gearing up for the “Climate change is real, but we just need to genocide more of the people with a <100kg/yr carbon footprint to fix it” chapter of dogshit rhetoric soon.
My point is they’ll (continue to) blame the people whose carbon footprints are <1% of theirs and would be manageable for centuries and advocate for genocide as a solution.
Currently blaming the global south is just used to deflect.
Java has many abstractions that can be beneficial in certain circumstances. However, it forces a design principle that may not work best in every situation.
I.e. inheritance can be both unnatural for the programmer to think in, and is not representative of how data is stored and manipulated on a computer.
You don’t have to use inheritance with Java. In fact, in most cases it’s better that you don’t. Practically all of the Java standard library doesn’t require the use of inheritance, same with most modern libraries.
On the contrary, I think inheritance is a very natural way to think. However, that doesn’t translate into readable and easy to maintain code in the vast majority of the cases.
I am not sure what you mean by how it’s stored or manipulated on a computer. A garbage collected language like Java manages the memory for you. It doesn’t really care if your code is using inheritance or not. And unless you’re trying to squeeze the last drops of performance out of your code, the memory layout shouldn’t be on your mind.
People hating on Java because “inheritance” usually don’t know the difference between inheritance and polymorphism. Stuff like composition and dependency inversion is black magic to them.
We’re gate-keeping the most mainstream programming language now? Next you’ll say English isn’t a real language because it doesn’t have a native verb tense to express hearsay.
And it is not forced at all. Noone holds a gun to your head to write extends. “Favor composition over inheritance” has been said as a mantra for at least a decade
Memory is an implementation detail. You are interested in solving problems, not pushing bytes around, unless that is the problem itself. In 99% of the cases though, you don’t need guns and knives, it’s not a US. school (sorry)
I do not like Java but this is a strange argument. The people that invented Java felt that most of the C language should be wrapped in unsafe.
Opinions can vary but saying Java is not a real language is evidence free name calling. One could just as easily say that any language that does not allow you to differentiate between safe and unsafe baheviour is incomplete and not a “real” language. It is not just the Java and C# people that may say this. As a C fan, I am sure you have heard Rust people scoff at C as a legacy language that was fine for its day but clearly outclassed now that the “real” languages have arrived. Are you any more correct than they are?
A company offered me a million dollars to work for them, but then I remembered the ping pong table at my current employer and said no way. Totally worth it.
Why would it be hard to explain each one? The explanation could just be a sentence like "full of fascists" or "promoting hate" or "known to brigade other instances with trolls" and that is all that is needed since users of the instance can switch if they don't like it.
My wife used to like Motley Crue so when I found cheap tickets to their farewell tour about 8 years ago we went along. What a clusterfuck it was. A bunch of fat old men trying to relive their glory years from 30 years earlier. Vince could barely catch a breath while he walked around the stage.
The truly funny bit was that the support act was Alice Cooper and his show was amazing as always.
Recently some colleagues mentioned wanting to see Motley Crue when they tour soon and I told them not to.
Saying this as a lifelong Crue fan, they’ve never been a good touring band. Even in their heyday it was, at best, a good time with a crowd of like minded people who were mostly stoned or drunk out of their minds. Vince has never been a good live vocalist, he’s just had enough good days to mange to put out a couple of live albums of cherry picked performances.
I saw Motley at a stadium tour they did a couple years ago and Vince was awful. They could have pulled literally anyone from the audience to sing and it would have been better than Vince.
I seen that tour too. Alice was fucking awesome. So glad I got to see him. Was going to see him on the Frankenstein tour but it got canceled. They were playing with Judas Priest as well, which would have been fucking awesome. I never got to see Priest, but real happy I got to see Alice. Guy still puts up a great show.
For Motley Crue… Yeah Vince is fucking awful. Lol skipped every other word because he was out of breath and mumbled the rest. The YouTube videos just don’t do justice to how bad he is live. I thought Mick Mars was pretty good though. He could still shred on the guitar, which is amazing with the pain he played through.
My wife was trying to convince me to go see the Beach Boys this year. I really didn’t want to watch a bunch of old men wheezing on stage (and Brian Wilson wasn’t even going to be there). But then I was saved because the same venue decided to host Ted Nugent and we said fuck no to giving them money.
Cooper has a nodding acquaintance with old time showbiz - you can see elements of Vaudeville as well as some of the more radical musical theatre in his stuff, and he’s had excellent work ethics the whole time. I always found it amazing that the metal magazines used to write about him golfing with Bob Hope and totally approving. Alice can do no wrong.
