That shit works IRL too. Why do you think therapy practices often have themselves positioned in front of a wall of books? Not that it’s a bad thing; it’s good for outcomes to believe your therapist is competent and well educated.
Nuh-uh, sound has to go over HDMI as well. You may only partake in your own culture through DRM-approved channels.
This got me thinking, could you still get an abortion in the bad parts of the US if you trademarked your DNA, and claimed that the condom breaking violated DMCA?
You know, show up at the doctors with a ton of papers headlined
ESL person question here - isn’t “male” used as an adjective more than a noun? If you used “pregnant female” as a counterpart, it would sound weird to me, like we were talking about rabbits, not people.
As an enby who was assigned male at birth, there’s a decent chance my penis could get somebody pregnant. I’d rather be referred to as a male than a man or a father. They’re all quite unappealing and untrue terms, but male is the most true out of them. I could have used the word seeder, but that’s less well known.
Maleness is a complex many-faceted social construct unifying a set of correlated patterns in genetics, endocrinology, musculoskelature, reproductive biology, and possibly neurology. I’m mostly not male, but I do have the parts of maleness that relate to producing and delivering semen, and it might even be fertile.
30 ads all over the page start to appear, moving and shifting the article I was trying to read, flashing in my face and covering content. An auto playing video starts to play, and follows me down the page.
Why won’t anyone disable their ad blocker, we need ad revenue!
Not to mention Google, Facebook and everyone else now knows you visited that page and they even can look at where you are hovering at to determine focus.
Shameless plug, if anyone here streams check out owncast.online, it’s a self-hosted fediverse twitch alternative that I’ve really enjoyed, and the community is really nice. (No ads, too) If you feel comfortable setting up a docker container you can stream on the fediverse, and people on mastodon/other services can sub to you. (and if you want to see what it’s like, you can see my instance here: owncast.scrubbles.tech )
This was an interesting question, so I took a quick dive in the docs, it seems it has an S3 integration to help with it, and some comments on the various supported services
As everything, a big “it depends”. Each viewer will eat more bandwidth, but you control the compression and qualities. For me, I have an unlimited fiber uplink, so it’s quite easy for me to self host. If someone were more bandwidth constrained, then hosting it on a cloud that then has much more egress may help - at a cost of course, but then your own personal internet would only have the one outgoing stream. Finding a provider that has super cheap egress traffic would probably help
If you have a data cap… well… not a lot you can do.
Thanks, I knew I was skirting the rule, but I’m on a constant strive to convince people to move to fediverse alternatives. Appreciate the exception, and won’t make a habit of it.
I just don’t understand how people can get so sucked into gacha games. All the art design, the game world, all the other stuff they try to use to camouflage the slot machine, none of that stuff works more than a few hours. Once you see the “seams” of the skinner box, once it becomes blindingly obvious there’s nothing to find at the “end” of chasing higher DPS or whatever, why do people continue? It loses any sense of fun the moment it happens.
In a lot of people it presses a button in their brain. That button says “Fuck yeah!” at first. After a while it says “I need this to function” or “This is what I do because this is what I’ve always done”. It takes effort to overcome the feeling of nothing when there was once something there.
all the other stuff they try to use to camouflage the slot machine
They get sucked in to it for the same reason people throw all their money away on real slot machines. Gambling addiction is real, and we all have our vices. IMO it should be more regulated.
i like Blue Archive for its story and music and I’d even spend a few bucks if I really wanted a special character, but not much. since I’m not into the other gachas I might just be a rare example of an enjoyer tho lol
Science is just the method by which technological advancements are achieved, it doesn’t decide the priorities. That privilege falls to capital, and by extension, capitalists.
I appreciate you are setting up a sort of platonic ideal of what science is but I think its important to deal with the real people and processes that science is performed by and we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we fail to acknowledge how those people and processes have often worked hand in hand with capitalist and colonial projects. We need to be introspective about how those choices have influenced the science (and the methods!) that’s been done. We, as scientists, engineers and science appreciators need to do this work so we can make different and better choices.
First and foremost, priorities are set by reality.
Extending a dog’s lifespan by 60 years would be a very high demand product and could be sold for much more than what smartphones cost. If it was feasible, it would have already been done.
Flying would be a very high demand service and could be sold for much more than what a train ticket costs. If it was feasible, it would have already been done.
yeah, insttead of blocking nsfw instances (since I think that that blocks users too), I blocked every nsfw community that popped up, and after the first week I’ve had no issues either.
Block ani.social, yiffit, and pawb.social, turn off NSFW posts and you’ll be 99% there. There’s a few anime .world communities but they’re easy enough to block
I pretty much never see porn show up for me in all. I get a bunch of communities showing pictures of partially clad women I have to block but that’s it. Did you disable NSFW?
