I just killed what seems to be my millionth Reddit account upon this news discovery. I say millionth because I've been ban-evading from that micromanaging, power-hungry mod shithole for years just to spite them.

But if they're going to now go and paywall subreddits just to read them then I guess the fun is finally over.

Spez is just happily going about continuing to inhale whatever shit his man-crush in Musk farts out.

Try farming in Canada. I will actually use liters per acre as a unit to measure in liquid fertilizer into a sprayer, spray it at gallons per acre and drive the sprayer at kph with a pump pressure in PSI on a field that was surveyed in rods.

It’ll get harvested by a machine that has all metric bolts and uses a 30’ cutting platform, the grain will be measured in bushels on the yield monitor and sold in $/bushel with the selling agent but the contract will be in tonnes and delivered that way.

postmateDumbass ,

And you have to do it in two languages too.

Well, chances are the Quebecers will have to learn English because I think ag equipment is exempt from dual language laws. At least I’ve never seen a part number for French manuals.

the enboomerification of genx is almost complete

UnderpantsWeevil ,
@UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world avatar

These aren’t radically new forms of celebrity so much as new methods of circulating a fad. Thirty years ago we had Pewdiepie and Mr. Beast, they were just Talk Radio shock jocks and daytime TV game show hosts. The names and faces change, but the gimmicks are all the same.

“Oh, you don’t know who Octomom is? Oh, you haven’t heard about the Macarena? You don’t know all the call-lines to Rocky Horror Picture Show? I guess you’re not cool.” shrug These things come and go. You can follow them or not. But pretending the height of socialization is knowing the current crop of Mouseketeers-turned-pop-idols isn’t going to make you less of a Boomer than your great-grandparents.

toynbee ,

Thirty … Thirty years ago?

alcoholicorn ,

They mean the equivalents of them. Mr Beast got big almost 10 years, and Pewdiepie was relevant almost 20 years ago. 10 years before that, you had Oprah Winfrey and Rush Limbaugh.

toynbee ,

Hrm, I guess that makes sense. Thank you for clarifying.

the_crotch ,

Nah, this is millennial energy right here. “Fuck social media, why doesn’t everyone have a geocities page with a webring that links to their angelfire page and guestbooks and ICQ and stumbleupon KIDS NEED TO STOP HAVING A DIFFERENT INTERNET EXPERIENCE THAN I GREW UP WITH!”

Gen-x, as is their nature, simultaneously doesn’t care and complains endlessly about everything equally, even the stuff they like, especially the stuff they like.

To put it in a perspective that this audience will understand; boomers are superintendent Chalmers. Millenials are Principal Skinner. Gen-x is Comic Book Guy.

gwen ,

yeah but the internet objectively sucks ass now and the webrings dont seem that bad ngl. also the ‘geocities page with a webring that links to their angelfire page and guestbooks and ICQ and stumbleupon’ still exists lmfao (neocities etc)

the_crotch ,

The internet objectively sucked back then too. But it seemed cool, because it was new and exciting and all the millennials that are nostalgic for it were young teens at the time.

ProgrammingSocks ,

Not a millennial but I will always argue that the modern internet is inherently worse for people than the internet even of 15 years ago.

Actually there were four towers originally, with the mast being a middle finger to China. That’s why they funded terrorists to blow up the towers. The attack was only partially successful, knocking down just two towers. George Bush couldn’t bear to see only half of his towers remaining, which is why he sent the planes in to finish the job.

Same! Well, almost. I read “First Dog”. I understood what “First Dog” was supposed to mean. But for some reason my brain processed it as “first First Dog” and I was amazed no other governor in Minnesota had a dog, until I realized it just said “First” once.

What’s the hold up? I’ve heard about the trip extension but not why

Krauerking ,

Boeing made the shuttle they used to go up and should use to go back down.

And, well, Boeing made the capsule.

deadbeef79000 ,

Boeing’s starliner capsule is faulty.

It’s also docked and blocking one of the two docking ports on the ISS.

It can’t be remotely undocked.

It will probably kill its occupants on re-entry.

NigelFrobisher ,

Are they whistleblowers?

deadbeef79000 ,

If they weren’t before, they are now.

frezik ,

No, whistles don’t work in the vacuum of space.

grubberfly ,
@grubberfly@mander.xyz avatar

in space, no one can hear you whistle

KeepFlying ,

The last update I heard (granted that was weeks ago now) was that the capsule was faulty but still perfectly functional for reentry. They just wanted to do more testing first since reentry would also destroy their opportunity to learn more about what’s wrong.

Its apparently still entirely functional for emergency reentry.

deadbeef79000 ,

NASA’s been very vague and Boeing will happily kill people for their bottom line.

I’m not sure I can trust anything either says.

But, yeah. Starliner is probably just fine for re-entry.

Frankly if Boeing wants more data, they should send another one up with the CEO onboard.

BastingChemina ,

From what I see the thrusters are faulty.

Boeing said the cause is a Teflon seal bulging, they cannot identify why and when it is bulging but they say it will not happen on the way down.

Also, all the previous flights of Starliner had thruster malfunctions or shutdowns and they “fixed it” without knowing the root cause of the issue.

Spacehooks ,

Wonder if they can use a robot to detach it from the inside.

deadbeef79000 ,

They’d have to get the robot up there.

Even if they could remotely undock, the thrusters are what’s broken, their ability to manoeuvre starliner afterwards and not have it immediately drift into ISS is iffy.

Spacehooks ,

Yeah that would sux. Guess movie logic to put mini explosion of fire extinguisher on it wouldn’t work.
