Dead monkeys and apes, yes. The bodycount in primates for the development of Neuralink isn’t… Fun.

It’s been nearly a year and we’re still calling it “X, formerly Twitter”. XD

Is this what the next Gnome will look like? Very clean.

Playstation controllers got it right, or at least, their kind of configuration. Doesn’t have to specifically be a controller from PlayStation.

Anything with offset analogue sticks is cancerous to use.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, he’s right. You sound like you’re writing a corporate ad.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

How about heavily carbon taxing the rich cunts, hmm?

You know, instead of another bullshit scheme to offset the responsibility of climate change to the majority of the population with the least control over it?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Jesus Christ, you’re calling another person a traitor over… this. XD

You Americans are like a bad parody. What a terrible farce this is.

Tattorack ,

Yeah, this whole explanation is just you saying “Our country is broken and I don’t want to fix it”.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

As a cell stage game Thrive is pretty good. As a realistic successor to SPORE it’s terrible; more than a decade and they’ve never managed to get anywhere beyond the cell stage.

The cell stage is getting better with each update, sure, but it seems like they haven’t even touched any other elements of their game.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Enjoying a stable OS?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Cutting edge versions aren’t stable either. You’re essentially a beta tester for new features that may end up in an LTS release.

I’d rather have an LTS release where things have generally been tested well enough to warrant an LTS release.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The space sim lidt seems to be missing Vega Strike.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Been a long time since I played it myself, but it was my first introduction to space sims.

Development of the game picked up again just a year or so ago, after a long time of hiatus.

Yeah, the game looked nice over 15 years ago, but the graphics haven’t updated at all, so the visuals are incredibly dated. Gameplay is still quite solid, though, and the background simulation aspect of the game is still on-par with Elite Dangerous, so I’d say it’s a pretty good choice if someone is looking for a FOSS space sim.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

We are living in a cyberpunk dystopia right now. Or the beginnings of one. We’re just missing all the cool and badass stuff from the genre.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah. Kind of.

Some people have already given their take, so I’ll add to it:

The game has a couple of hours of actual, fun content. After those couple of hours you’ll start to notice that everything is the same. Oh sure, the creatures and plants are made of different parts, but that’s as far as the differences go. Every planet has the exact same pattern, every system has a space station with the exact same functions, so eventually it really feels like exploration doesn’t matter. Which kinda sucks for a game that’s supposed to be about exploration.

I’ve always said that exploration would’ve been far more impactful if the universe of No Man’s Sky had just a bit more realism in it. This would mean most planets would be frozen iceballs or low atmosphere dustballs with no life on them. This would make discovering a planet with life on it quite momentous. It would also eliminate the problem of quickly finding out all life on every planet is exactly the same.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I have yet to find any mods that improve the game in the way I’d like… Or that will even work with the latest version of the game.

Yes, I use this to hide visual novels, otherwise one would drown in them.

Unfortunately it only works for excluding just one tag, and there are people in the forums, going as far back as 8 bloody years, begging for there to be a proper tag exclusion system.

Except I can look at Jobs’ history and see an actual progression in technology. With Musk there is literally nothing but nonsensical hyped up promises.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Except he didn’t. Jobs progressed technology by essentially bullying engineers into making it a reality. Musk didn’t even put that effort in. He bought companies that were already doing these things

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I keep reminding people that this technology was already in development, that Elon and is Neuralink isn’t a unique invention…

If you’re not looking for a debate, don’t say stupid things.

Tattorack ,

Wasn’t that meant ironically, though? I saw the clip that quote comes from and it really didn’t look like the guy was saying it with a straight face.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’m pretty sure none of them were convicted for overthrowing governments (yet). So your example is hyperbole.

I do not want to see any of them get any sort of power, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let myself get riled up over what some dude merely said.

Considering how riled up everyone seems to getting over what was said, I inclined to believe it was said specifically to get a rise out of their opposition.

In other words; you’re being trolled, and they’re having a laugh.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The original games are about 4 GB each. Together they should be around 8 GB.

What the fuck is the rest of the size used for!?

Can’t wait to start pirating cars.

Those ads in the early 2000s were prophetic. The answer is yes, by the way. Yes I would.

We know so little about the actual process of gender dysphoria. Hormone blockers don’t solve or fix anything, but have been used simply because it’s the only thing that does something. Essentially bringing a blunt instrument to the problem.

Considering the harmful nature of hormone blockers, I’m for not prescribing puberty blockers to youth. However, only so long as more research is put into it.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The person who makes the claim is responsible for backing it up. So yes, if you’re going to make a going you’re going to do all the research.

Asking for the relevant scientific backing is a perfectly reasonable thing to ask.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I take it you have a source you can link to?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’d rather be able to stream a file from my PC via VLC to other people with VLC.

If that’s already a thing, then I guess I just gotta figure it out…

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I know about RTPM, but what I meant was more akin to streaming the file itself.

Take for example, me and my friends want to watch a movie. One of us has the movie. We all have VLC. The one with the movie loads the file, the others… Somehow… Connect to the VLC with the loaded file and have it directly stream to their own VLC.

Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard' (www.pcgamer.com)

Well, I mean, I would have launched it first (as an AAA game), but I’m no game developer. 🤷 And neither are they, from the looks of it. Good at perpetually raking in money for himself and his family, though!

They’ve had a “basic world” for a long time at this point, unfortunately it still doesn’t go beyond “tech demo” levels of development.

Squadron 42, their single player game set in this universe, is supposedly nearly completely finished and coming “SOON™”.

If Squadron 42 actually releases it would mean Chris Roberts has finally managed to start and finish a project without a parent company ordering him or taking away the project from him.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The desire to hate on Star Citizen is far from irrational.

Wake me up once Chris Roberts actually finishes anything by himself.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

It’s meant to be an “everything” game.

Chris Roberts has always had the ambition for a space sim where you could truly do anything, but never had the resources to actually create it.

So what is Star Citizen supposed to be?

An open world sandbox where you, a citizen of the stars, can choose to be Whst you want. A space trucker? A pirate? A bounty hunter? A smuggler? These aren’t new things in the space sim genre, but Star Citizen wants to make these aspect less like a game and more like a life sim.

So instead of clicking a few buttons to fly your spaceship, your character wakes up in bed, has to manually walk over to the ship hangar (maybe take the train there, if you’re on the city planet. Yes, the train runs on a schedule), manually access the hangar via elevator, climb into the ship, activate the ship, request take-off from control, wait for the hangar doors to open, and then you fly your spaceship.

This level of granular detail is meant for every aspect of the game and is the reason why Star Citizen will never get done!

See, climate activists? This means something. Now please stop throwing tomato soup at Van Goge and Da Vinci.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I always torrent large FOSS projects where possible. It’s faster and doesn’t tax the servers of the project.

That’s not piracy, though, so I’m not sure why it’s being talked about here…

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’m STILL insulted. Portrait videos suck to look at.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

If I’m not mistaken, Steam will still keep the games on their servers. Sure, you can no longer buy them, but I’m pretty sure if you own the game you can still access it, and steam keys from the grey market should still work.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Ok, but like… You’re talking about people who’d waste money on buying a “cyber” truck in the first place. At that point it’s like people buying Apple products; it’s less about having the best possible version of the thing and more about having something from Tesla/Musk.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Average anime protagonist progression.

Me and some friends were discussing about all the layoffs we were hearing about from every major game publisher, and the tech world in general.

Major layoffs, that is, despite also reporting good profits. Record high profits, in some cases.

I said it might me likely due to these companies looking to replace a portion of their workers with AI. Looks like I was right.

DDG seems to still function nicely. And I’ve never stopped using bookmarks. Didn’t know people weren’t using bookmarks anymore… I mean, what do you? Search for the same website you frequently use or just make a button that can do it in one click?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I live in Denmark. I can’t complain.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

DuckDuck Go took getting used to for me due to it lacking all the convenient algorithms from Google that… used to in the past… contribute to getting better search results.

The lack of these conveniences is why I switched to DDG years ago in the first place. I realised Google was essentially helping everyone build their own Internet echo chambers and I didn’t want to be part of that.

It does mean you actually need to be good at searching for what you want because DDG is very bad at “guessing”.

Or to put it differently; I call you complaints skill issues. :)

I’ve managed to switch from GNOME to KDE, removing GNOME afterwards, and it was quite painless.

KDE 6 isn’t available yet, though. The first one to get the new KDE is the distro it’s made for, so Arch, I think. Everyone else gotta wait, and it could be a while.
