shalafi , to insanepeoplefacebook in Sovcit fucking over their kid.

In what would is this required? I didn’t have to produce a single document to add my kids to benefits. Hell, I could have added the neighbor’s kids.

Donkter ,

Different states have different rules. It could have been through the work too which can do whatever it wants.

Etterra ,

It’s entirely possible that if they looked up the kids information and found no record of their birth, because background checks and whatnot, trying to confirm that the kid even exists in the first place and it’s not a scam of some kind, then they would have to manually request proof of existence/citizenship.

blady_blah ,

Every time I’ve added my kids to my benefits, I’ve had to provide a social security number. But realistically, that’s the only documentation I had to provide other than their name and sex.

shalafi ,

I’m wrong, I have had to provide an SSN, but still never a birth certificate.

i_dont_want_to ,

When I was enrolling my child on my benefits for a state job (in the USA), they needed me to provide a birth certificate.

In my private sector job, I only gave a name and relationship with no paperwork.

pokes at list of non-Hague countries "Oh, the usual suspects: Afghanistan, Mali, Haiti - wtf?"

Does anyone know why Canada hasn't signed on to the Hague Convention?

GreyEyedGhost ,

Because adoptions are under provincial control, not federal, so the country didn’t sign a treaty for policies they have no authority over. Link for more info.

aramis87 ,

Hey, thanks - I appreciate the education!

GreyEyedGhost ,

Oh, no problem. My first thought was, What is the Hague Convention, and why haven’t we signed it? I was pretty relieved to find out it was just a jurisdicional issue.

aramis87 ,

Canada was just such a notable departure from the other countries listed that I was surprised. I'm glad it was just an issue between the feds and the territories and provinces and not something weird!

They said they weren’t a US citizen on the form…….but was applying for a passport that would state they were a US citizen???

deegeese ,

If they ever pay their child support, lack of US citizenship is the next reason down the list to reject their application.

Nithanim ,

I am as confused as you are. So basically, they want an official document to proof that they are a US citizen while not being one?

meco03211 ,

You might be familiar with their rants claiming to be an “American National”. This is differentiated from a “citizen” mostly by birth location. So a citizen is someone born to a US citizen parent or born in a US state. A “national” would likely be born in a US territory like American Samoa and Swain Island.

The below goes into further details.

govassist.com/…/us-nationals-vs-us-citizens-uncov…

I’m pretty sure US Nationals can get passports, but a true National likely wouldn’t be getting their info from a sovcit group.

DeaLikesTrains , to insanepeoplefacebook in Sovcit doesn't have a Bible so baby doesn't exist.

So you don’t get a birth certificate after birth if you don’t ask for it? In Germany, you can even request a new one since you’re in the system if you lose it or it gets destroyed. You have to pay a little fee but that’s all. Would anyone mind explaining this to me?

cobysev ,

They gave birth at home instead of in a hospital. Which means that there’s probably no record of the child’s birth and they haven’t gone through the process that usually gets you a birth certificate. So they’re deciding whether to go start that process for their newborn or not.

DeaLikesTrains ,

Ah, I get it know, thank you!

orcrist ,

If you have the child at home, then there is no auto-generated birth certificate. If you’re at a hospital then they’re probably going to document it, and whether or not you take the piece of paper, it’s in the system and can be printed out as needed.

Treczoks , (edited )

That’s because the kid is registered with the Standesamt anyway. Those sovcits don’t want their kids to be registered with any government agency as they are afraid this would mean something nasty for them. So pregnant sovcits try to avoid doctors, hospitals, and even midwives to prevent anyone from registering the baby in official documentation. Which means they give birth at home without any kind of medical assistence. Which in turn usually means a high (double-digit percentage, actually) risk for the baby or mother to die, but that is a risk they are willing to take.

The reasons given for not wanting the baby to be registered are not really clear - something about a fortune the government would own to the people, but somehow having a birth certificate would allow to state to withhold the money or something like that.

The whole issue is not about the piece of paper titled “Certificate of Birth”, it is about being registered as “Citizen” with the name in ALL CAPS by a government entity. They consider themselves as “American Nationals” instead of “American Citizens”, because “Citizens” are people (“subjects”) who are “subjugated” to the government.

Does not make much sense to you? Don’t worry, it does not make sense at all.

The other core believe I seem to have figured out is that they think the government owns them money - loads of money! - when they are not “American Citizens” but “American Nationals”. That’s why you can regularly read about sovcits trying to pay off credit card debt, the fat new pickup, the mortgage, or child support with a mysterious “voucher” or silver coins.
