There is a long abandoned (but it still runs) project called eDEX-UI (https://github.com/GitSquared/edex-ui) which basically provides a working, useable terminal surrounded by all sorts of the crap visual appearance of hacker terminals in the movies. Pair that with a terminal editor and you've almost got a movie IDE!
It's kinda fun for a while although I'd be amazed if anyone actually used it as their main terminal emulator program. But you could.
I could see it being a real thing. When you're making a game it gives you visualization for animations (both physics and visual-only) and shaders (maybe even a simplified stylized version). Random benchmark results/debug info. Drawing attention to syntax mistakes. An important email or video call pops up.
It would be cool and potentially useful, but completely un-asked for and likely distracting and a waste of space. Basically what if your computer was a non-cartoon clippy.
It’s nothing surprising to me. This is what I assume Reddit was like before heavy moderation of subs many years ago, and what gets on the front page.
/r/trees used to be one of the most popular subreddits and used to frequently show up on /r/all (the ‘frontpage’ back then), followed by GoneWild communities iirc (at least that’s how it felt like, I mean Spez was a moderator for Jailbait after all) I think Lemmy just doesn’t hide it and so it’s easier for people to click on and such.
The reddit admins did give violentacrez, the top mod of r/jailbait and other porn subreddits, a special “pimp daddy” award, so they are all still really gross people, but I just think it’s important to criticize them for what they are actually responsible for.
It is! It definitely gave me ideas and at the same time I was talking to someone about how X is now essentially just sponsored speech, and so the meme was born 😁

In the city worst things than that have happened and no one bats an eye. I’ve seen a homeless man wash his junk in the quick trip sink. I’ve seen a crate of homemade molotov cocktails just setting on the front porch. I’ve witnessed someone pull a gun out on someone else just for honking in traffic.
Nah, dont worry about it, its no problem. Just pointed out that i thought it was kinda random. If yah wanna keep talking then i can hear ya. Cities can be kinda wild sometimes. The one im at right now has had wild shit happened like bombings on multiple gas stations in the same day. A bridge was taken by the river with people on it and i once took a buss and it ran over a biker in a motorcicle.
