It isn’t like I’m not willing to pay. My NAS setup wasn’t exactly cheap. But the user experience is just incredible. I had Netflix for ten years, and several others for some time. The experience is just better. Watching whatever I want synchronized with my wife across devices of any type is superb. Who else offers that?

Can you show the question you asked that led to this and which model was used? I just tested in several models, even slightly older ones and they all answered precisely. The human could be described in very similar terms. People think we’re magic or something, but we to are just a weighted neural network assembling outputs based strictly on training data built from reinforcement. I’m slightly confused. Which part needs an academic paper? I’ve made three admittedly reductive claims.

  • Human brains are neural networks.
  • Its outputs are based on training data built from reinforcement.
  • We have a much more massive model than current artificial networks.

First, I’m not trying to make some really clever statement. I’m just saying there is a perspective where describing the human brain can generally follow a similar description. Nevertheless, let’s look at the only three assertions I make here. Given that the term neural network is given its namesake from the neurons that make up brains, I assume you don’t take issue with this. The second point, I don’t know if linking to scholarly research is helpful. Is it not well established that animals learn and use reward circuitry like the role of dopamine in neuromodulation? We also have… education, where we are fed information so that we retain it and can recount it down the road.

I guess maybe it is worth exploring the third, even though, I really wasn’t intending to make a scholarly statement. Here is an article in Scientific American that gives the number of neural connections around 100 trillion. Now, how that equates directly to model parameters is absolutely unclear, but even if you take glial cells where the number can be as low as 40-130 billion according to The search for true numbers of neurons and glial cells in the human brain: A review of 150 years of cell counting, that number is in the same order of magnitude of current models’ parameters. So I guess, if your issue is that AI models are actually larger than the human brain’s, I guess maybe there is something cogent. But given that there is likely at least a 1000:1 ratio of neural connections to neurons, I just don’t think that is really fair at all.

Well that’s true in many cases, and may well be in this case. In some though, the city is self insured, in which case it comes from a fund set aside by the city. In others, if not covered by insurance, it can come from the coffers directly. So directly or indirectly - immediately or paid over time, it still comes from the community.

Maybe but I don’t think that is well tested legally yet. For instance, I’ve learned things from there, but when I share some knowledge I don’t attribute it to all the underlying sources of my knowledge. If, on the other hand, I shared a quote or copypasta from there I’d be compelled to do so I suppose.

I’m just not sure how neural networks will be treated in this regard. I assume they’ll conveniently claim that they can’t tie answers directly to underpinning training data.

Why categorize anything at all or even have adjectives? The point is that we categorize things for the sake of clarity. I’m or course not mad about miscategorization, but it can have an impact on understanding. Something isn’t true just by saying it.

The case of gender identity isn’t a matter of letting them be what they want to be; it is letting them be what the are.

Of course nothing is really happening here, but even if it were, it would be fine to complain about people identifying as something absurd. Those people are usually mocking gender non-conformity so fuck that.

You asked why do they care? I’m saying, if it were true, people might care because categorization depends on some degree of truth. So it is reasonable to care if people are categorizing truthfully. Conflating flippant categorization and actual identity I don’t think is helpful.

Again, this case is bullshit, but it smacks of the “attack helicopter” garbage where the implication is that trans individuals are just claiming to be something they aren’t, which isn’t true. And when somebody says “who cares if somebody identifies as a park bench” or similar, it doesn’t help. We care because one situation isn’t the truth, and the other is an honest telling of one’s identity.

Please state yes or no if you believe that to be true. If yes, I believe this is the scummy position with which I take issue. If no, then you have simply missed the precise point I’m making. That they aren’t the same. For one is a statement of the fact of one’s gender, and the other a false statement.

That is why somebody should care if somebody were to state, even if in earnest that they are a season or helicopter or similar. Because in the best case they are mistaken and in the worst case making a mockery of gender identity which I fear, though am not certain, you are doing here.
