Actually did this for O Green World by Gorillaz when I was 13 in '05. When the bill came in, my dad beat me senseless with those old jumper cables. Man, I loved that funky little ringtone.

BradleyUffner , to technology in AI-generated images now appearing in Google image search results

Google is a search engine, it shows stuff hosted on the Internet. If these AI generated images are hosted on the Internet, Google should show them.

grayman ,

Except is VERY heavily weights certain sources.

KairuByte ,

That’s a completely different topic though.

TwilightVulpine ,

Not really. However much Google might index everything, they decide how to prioritize search results. The order of results makes or breaks a search engine. This argument likely wouldn’t be happening if AI output were left several pages away from the top.

If someone is searching for reference images, it should not put AI generated output over photography and original art, because by its very nature AI generated images can’t be the ultimate origin of any kind of image.

KairuByte ,

You can’t weigh a factor you can’t detect, and the moment it can be detected that factor is trained out of the generators.

You’re essentially asking for the impossible.

TwilightVulpine ,

Even if AI detecting tools are flawed, most pages that feature AI art have it explicitly stated in their own text, which it’s something their crawlers could definitely pick up on.

UnderpantsWeevil ,
@UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world avatar

Its arguably the same topic and part of the problem. Sites that host digital copies of originals are underweighted relative to “popular” sites like Wikipedia or Pintrest or Imgur, which are more likely to host frauds or shitty duplicates.

Sometimes I download highly-rated shows from random artists on Internet Archive’s Live Music Archive

Sometimes friends recommend stuff.

    @PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml avatar

    Yeah. In Poland libertatrianism started around 1980 with a pretty fun episode when Janusz Korwin-Mikke went to the famous opening strike of solidarność in the Gdańsk Shipyard and preached to them the virtues of capitalism and free market. Shocked workers listened to the nonsense, concluded he has to be a militia provocateur (he really wasn’t) and locked him in the shed.

    Currently, polish libertarians have such overlap with monarchists and neonazis they are even for years in a single political party - Konfederacja.

    I like to think of $1 billion in terms of how much money you need to spend. Let’s say you’re given $1 billion at birth, never earn another cent in your life, and live for exactly 75 years. To spend all of that money, you’d need to spend $36,500 per day, every day, for your entire life. Even then, you’d have nearly a million dollars left to pass down to your children.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

    If you only spent 36,500 a day, you'd probably die far far richer (like, 10s of billions) than you were born assuming you have it invested. You could spend more like 100k a day (adjusting up for inflation) and you'd probably almost certainly die a billionaire.

    rockSlayer ,

    that’s exactly why I have to add that you never earn another cent. The easiest way to spend money is to increase personal wealth.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

    Billionaires never earn their wealth. Doesn't stop them from accumulating it anyways.

    If you want a political discourse I’m open to that. But to start with such a closed minded view is not the right ground to start a discussion. I even agree with this one, but the way this is presented should not be on a meme sub.

    KrasMazov ,
    @KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml avatar

    The post is not talking in morally good/bad terms.

    Also of course it is presented this way, memes are supposed to generate some sort of emotion, what did you expect?
