I really hate the ones that make you select pictures that contain particular images. Apparently if you do them too fast, they’ll just keep telling you to try again.
Also the anti-fingerprinting in Firefox breaks them. Fucking awesome that I can solve that bullshit just fine and it still won’t validate unless I let some asshole slurp my browser data.

In a way, those are interesting because you can use them (sometimes retrospectively) to tell what Google or Google's clients are working on. First it was all the text stuff as they digitized old newspapers and books and magazines. Then there was that period when you wanted you to identify stop signs and house numbers and businesses and other stuff like that - all of that fed into Google Maps. Then it was traffic lights and speed limits and stop signs, which was early self-driving. Now it's motorcycles, buses, bridges, and bicycles - all things that were (maybe still are?) proving a challenge for advanced self-driving. The traffic lights and crosswalks fit into this somehow, though I'm not sure if it's self-driving cars, map directions, both, or something else entirely.
I have absolutely no idea what they're doing with fire hydrants, staircases and mountains, though. It'll probably be obvious in retrospect. But anyway, how do you like your life as not only a data point that Google can sell to anyone interested, but also as a cog feeding data into Google's many businesses and helping them solve their identification issues?
It’s illegal to park in front of fire hydrants so you’d want a self-driving car to know that. However, I think Tesla is pretty much the only company using cameras for self-driving cars (rather than lidar/radar), so not sure this is the real reason for the captchas. Knowing where hydrants are would be useful for Google Maps too.
This is nothing more than reddit pushing their luck with european data laws, and finally relenting and going “OMG if your stuff wasnt deleted it was your fault, not ours, We promise it’ll totally work this time if you do it again, since we’ve turned off our desperation measures after being threatened by fines by the EU”

This is the correct answer. If Linux was pre-installed, most problems would vanish. My Linux computers are far, far more stable than windows once they run.
What is this based on? Some kind of paper? Were there objective criteras, which were choosen beforehand, and on which the companies were rated, leading to there grouping in these groups?
Or did you just made up 4 cool sounding categories, which you fitted various companies in, based on your personal opinion?
It’s not from me but from AlgorithmWatch, one of the most famous and respected NGOs in the field of Algorithmic accountability. They published plenty of stuff on these topics and human rights threats from these companies.
Also this is an ecosystem analysis of political positioning. These companies and think tanks are going on newspapers with their names to say we should panic about AI. It’s not a secret, just open Google News and you fill find a landslide of news on these topics sponsored by these companies with a simple search.
I’d think, for someone who loves China so much, you’d understand the value of a social score telling you that you’re doing a bad thing. Guess you only like to listen when that score is managed by a fascist regime.

I have never seen a “social credit score” system. People are more concerned about the household registration (hukou) system. What you refer to as the “social credit card” is actually the social security card. In China, there is a credit rating system called Zhima Credit (Sesame Credit). If you owe a lot of money to the bank, your credit rating will be blacklisted, restricting your ability to make high-end purchases. It seems like you are very good at propaganda. Are there bad things in China? Yes, but Western media often focus their reports on what they consider taboo topics, creating a stereotypical image of China that makes Chinese people look strange. I believe Western media can’t come up with other accusations, so they project their own wrongdoings onto China. Take the example of Xinjiang cotton: Chinese people can’t even conceive of forced labor because we believe that human labor is more expensive than machines, which are faster and more efficient. However, the US had cotton slave plantations in the past, so you hype up this issue.
IT’s so crazy to run into a comment that speaks about this. I recently got the urge to play Mass Effect, and wanted to replay through the series. I have had the game bought when it went on sale. I download all 100+gb of the game, and launch it to see some performance. EA app required. I might just request a refund, and then pirate the game, to be real with you all.
