Nothing but endless posts in the past 24 hours on something I’ve previously never heard about.
Edit: the down voted form gamers with hurt feelings. I was half joking. All these over sensitive comments. I hope the game is trash. I’m sure you all fork over cash anyway. It’s meme group not a gamer sub.
It can’t be that people are organically wanting to talk about a recently released triple A game by an old and relatively beloved game studio. They must be paid actors.
I mean, just because you don't follow gaming news doesn't mean nothing happens in the gaming industry. And if you somehow didn't hear about this game that folks have been talking about for months as an extremely anticipated game, you clearly don't follow gaming news that closely.
The game’s exclusive early access period for purchasers of the premium edition just released. Big name streamers are playing and streaming the game. Reviews are pouring out of every game review site. On top of all that, the general release is days away. Obviously, people are gonna be talking about it.
You might never heard of it but this game has been hyped for years. We got no Skyrim successor for 12 years because Bethesda was busy with starfield, so naturally people want to see if the wait is worth it.
Cat rent is a running joke in my household, because none of us honestly know where the fuck all the loose change is even coming from otherwise. She's such a thoughtful baby. That, or a little whore.
I’m not sure that using the entire QA staff of the world’s largest agglomeration of Dev studios on a single game only qualifies as “not cutting corners”. That’s surely going above and beyond.
If that's what it takes to ship a game that doesn't have multitudes of game breaking bugs like they're known for, perhaps the company has bigger problems. Like still using an engine that is this bad.
I really don’t like the word agile since everyone I ever met who had this in their job title was blowing up steam someones butt. Is that the job description or what is it with these agile types?
Agile used to refer to a very specific way of developing software, but then it got coopted by the mainstream where companies kept doing shit the same way they always had but calling it “agile”. It’s basically like when early Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire.
I do this with my own household cats and they still ignore me. The one time I got to pet a wild kitty I was still in middle school and the other kids got all grossed out
Baby just needed some matted fur to be shaved off and a bath :(
Never understood the dumbass pspsps thing. It's annoying and I've pretty much never seen it work. What always has worked for me is to chill just a little ways away and completely ignore them. Just as non-threatening as you can make yourself if you were a piece of furniture left out on the sidewalk.
From personal experience, cats hate being made to do things and don't come when called unless they already know you and like you a lot. But they also loathe being ignored and will snoof right over shortly to the one person being completely indifferent to them.
This would be the same reason they seem to mercilessly hunt anyone with a cat allergy. Your perceived dislike of them shall not stand!
The psssppsssp thing just gets their attention. It may not get them to come over and they may act like they’re ignoring you, but it absolutely gets them to notice you- especially if it’s quiet.
It doesn’t change how the cat is going to behave after noticing, though and it’s best to play it off as not meant for them.
Another way I’ve had good luck is in creating some kind of toy to entice them to play- anything similar to those feather toys, for example. Rather than trying to play directly, flip it around in an open space… make it twitch… trigger their predatory instincts.
Pspsps is essential. It draws the cat’s attention to you. Then you extend a hand and look at how the cat’s reacting to it. You can tell with great accuracy how interested the cat is in being pet by you, just by watching that. Works great for me. And believe me, as a resident of İstanbul for more than two decades, I have considerable experience with stray cats. I have honed my stray cat petting skills by going out of my way to interact with most of the cats I see on the streets, which is of course a rather large number of cats because İstanbul.
Agreed. I live in a European country where it’s very normal to let your cats outside, and I was a mail carrier for 4 years, so I got to pet so many cats 5 days a week. You do the pspsps, then crouch a bit and extend the hand. They either ignore you and move or on they’re interested and come to you and bam you’re petting a sweet kitty.
This is the only reason I’m playing a pirated copy. Fuck MSFT for releasing Sept 1st and then punishing any Game Pass users who didn’t want to shell out $35 additional for digital content that isn’t even released. I’ll transfer my saves once my Game Pass version unlocks.
For sure, just some people can be a bit hesitant about downloading a cracked version so I’d rather them give as little money as possible if they still wanna play it.
I went psst psssst pssst to a cute cat in a garden I was passing, not noticing a woman walking towards me. She thought I was hissing at her, gave me such a LOOK. She was wearing hijab, I’m an old lady, who knows what was going through her head.
As somebody who almost went into the game industry and didn’t because of the low wages, horrible working conditions, and just generally poor quality of life, I think I know more about how devs get paid than some rando on the internet.
And I haven’t pirated a game since the Bay went down like 10 years ago. I just hate people who get so holier-than-thou because a handful of dollars from their purchase will go towards paying the devs’ salaries on the studio’s next game while ignoring how much of it will go to stock options for the shareholders and buying the CEO another Ferrari. You wanna pirate games or not, I don’t care. Just don’t give me this “my money is going to the devs” crap. Because it isn’t. That’s just the excuse you use for your pearl clutching.
I will happily buy more expensive games that are shorter and with worse graphics than modern AAA games, so long as the devs are getting paid well and aren’t crunched. Because my money isn’t going to the devs, but it certainly tells the company what I do or don’t care about.
If you carjack someone else, commit actual grand theft auto, does that mean the workers in the car factory that produced the car get their pay retroactively revoked?
That’s actual theft, you stole it from the owner, and even then it doesn’t affect the factory workers’ salary at all.
If I get a copy of Starfield from a friend after they’re done playing it, does that count as stealing the devs’ salary?
Piracy is always moral. These types of comments ignore the fact that “game devs” don’t actually have full control of their works but instead is split through a larger publishing/corporation and shareholders. Game devs have very little autonomy or personal agency at all.
Actually, more accurately: ‘Theft’ is when capitalists could make more money fucking you over, but couldn’t. *Actual *theft is when capitalists make more money by fucking you over and then pay the fines for it as a cost of business.
Redefining theft from “taking a physical object that isn’t yours” to “right click copy, right click paste” has got to be one of the best psyops of all time.
I was never going to give Todd Howard the money for this regardless, after FO76. He would have received $0 for this game regardless of if I downloaded it or not.
This is so fucking stupid. If you steal a physical item, say, a block of cheese, it is no longer in the possession of the shop, and can’t be sold to someone else. The cheesemonger will have to make another block to sell.
If you copy and paste a bunch of 1’s and 0’s, the original is still there. How was that theft? Does the original still exist?
Is watching a movie at a drive in from outside the lot with a pair of binoculars theft? If you can hear a copyrighted song from your neighbours yard, is that theft? Taping a movie when it airs on TV with a VHS, is that theft?
If you tell a joke and I start to word for word retelling your joke then I haven’t stolen your joke? After all the joke still exists in your head.
If you have an excellent idea, for the sake of scale let’s say it’s a million dollar idea, but you don’t have the means to realize that idea. Now let’s say I heard of your idea and I can realize the idea and make millions off it. Have I stolen your idea? The idea still exists in your mind but it’s no longer a million dollar idea because I already made millions from it.
If someone scrapes the web for your activity to create a profile of you (which is for instace what Facebook does) is that stealing your data? After all none of your data goes missing
Similarly if someone hacks your bank and takes your financial and personal data the bank holds, is it not stealing? Does it magically turn into stealing if after taking your data they delete all the data from the banks system? What if they encrypt it without deleting, effectively making the data impossible for the bank to use?
There’s a lot that goes into an Australian release. Shipping all those bits to the bottom of the world is outrageously expensive. All of the map geometry has to be altered to be right-side up there. The physics math has to be re-coded to deal with -1g gravity. Somebody has to be paid to go through all of the scripts to replace every instance of “jelly” with “marmite”. Asset loading code has to be changed to compensate for the Coriolis effect.
All of this adds up to expensive Au ports, the new costs often overshadowing the title’s original development costs.
Yeah I have Game Pass so I was pretty keen to play the early access but when I found out it was $170, just to play 5 days earlier? No fucking thank you.
I’m spending that money on an SSD because my partner bought the deluxe version and running it on my computer is arse. My computer isn’t even that bad!
How much is 4 liters of milk and 4 liters of petrol in Australia? 4 liters because that about equals a US gallon which is our usual measurement for those things.
In the US right now a gallon of milk is about $2.65 and a gallon of petrol is about $3.80.
