Awesome! What is Kcloud!_OS? couldn’t find anything about it. Is it related to Pop!_OS?

iCloud doesn’t exist. My partners name is KC so I altered the fetch. This is a pop os computer.

Ahah nice!

E6000 epoxy glue is the best all around glue out there.

Mr_Blott ,

E6000 and epoxy are two different glues, but you’re right otherwise

E6000 would be better for flexible plastic, in this case a two part epoxy would be best

zero_spelled_with_an_ecks , to asklemmy in How do I fix/repair a broken joint on a figure?

It looks like there’s a long piece that connected two balls that go into sockets on either end. If that’s correct, and you want to repair the long piece so it doesn’t break again, you want to pin it. That means drilling into both sides of the break and putting something stronger to act as a bridge through both holes. There are bunches of tutorials on how to do it like this one spikeybits.com/…/this-is-how-to-pin-metal-miniatu… (just an example, you can probably find better ones)

Moghul ,

This is basically it, but I’d like to add something. Don’t bother drilling through the long piece. Instead, find a peg of equal diameter to the one that broke, cut it to size (+some that will go in the balls) cut off the old peg, drill holes in both balls, and superglue in the new peg.

You can get brass rods in scale modeling hobby stores and/or online and they’ll be crazy strong. Alternatively you can get plastic rods in a variety of diameters.

Grabthar , to asklemmy in How do I fix/repair a broken joint on a figure?

I use a tiny drill bit to make a hole in the centre of either side of the damaged joint, then cut a piece of metal tubing (hobby shops sell them) or a piece of plastic such as filament from a 3D printer (getting a ~1cm piece of PLA from your local library is probably free) to use as a pin to fit into the holes and reinforce the joint. Then once you are happy with the fit, glue it all together. If it is really tiny, you may not be able to pin it and then glue might be your only hope. Depending on the weight of the parts and material, crazy glue is usually pretty good for most situations. With plastics, where I need it to grip right away and hold its own weight, I like Testors modeling cement. Way better initial hold than even the gel crazy glues.

during transit that the head/neck joint piece broke in two.

Super glue would probably work. Scuff up the surfaces with some sandpaper a little bit, then you should be golden!

Blue_Morpho ,

Super glue will only work if it doesn’t get touched.

PatMustard ,

Depends on how well you can stick it together. If there’s a good amount of surface area then cyanoacrylate (which I think is just normal super glue) will stick pretty well unless you drop it or similar.

Blue_Morpho ,

You can see that it’s only a small flexible peg between the body and head. It’s not possible to get firm pressure between the two halves without dissembling and extracting that peg.

I have a huge amount of experience with these types of repairs from when my kids were younger.

PatMustard ,

Fair, if I was doing a quick super glue fix I’d also stick the rim of the head back to the body

Maybe I’m dumb but I don’t understand the “format” - are the top and bottom sections of text supposed to be related to the middle text? Why is the text over a bottle of alcohol?

lewdian69 ,

The top text is after only a drink, the middle text is after a few drinks, the bottom text is hammered

thanks - understood the librarian joke but got confused by the format :P

Just read a great library based crime thriller and I’ve been sharing it with everyone.

“How Can I Help You” by Laura Sims. A serial killer and a wannabe writer go head-to-head in a small town library.

I mean people using libraries for the most part don’t really understand the decimal system and probably wouldn’t get the significance of it being in the 000s - especially the 000s where it’s sandwiched between computer science and knowledge structure & other general works. When I’m compelled to aquire a bs book in any category, simply because patron demand is high, I prefer it be in the same section as factual information so it may be drowned out a little more. (And I say aquire, instead of purchase, since those types of books I try to rent so they can be returned after it’s been taken out by those requesting it and it never makes its way into our full collection)

I do like the meme though! This format is pretty great and we do indeed need more librarian memes, I don’t mean to get all pedantic here haha

My friend doesn’t get it.

ForgetPrimacy ,

My friend is having some trouble too, could someone help me explain it to them?

SchrodingersPat OP ,

Of course. And no worries. I know it’s a niche joke. Buckle up it’s a long one. Many public libraries, at least in the US, use the Dewey Decimal System (000-999) to organize their nonfiction books. The gist is that Mellville Dewey is problematic for many reasons, but for this example you have to know that when organizing books, Dewey’s best practice is that known hoaxes are categorized and shelved right along with the nonfiction books in the same category. For example the book 1421 claims that America was discovered by the Chinese in year 1421. This book is shelved right along the rest of American history in 945.05. However, the 000’s is the “contested knowledge” which has ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot, etc. I feel that moving books like 1421 into 000s it lets librarians contextualize books by essentially saying “we think this book is as true as ghosts.”

UnverifiedAPK ,

Isn’t 000 Computer Science?

TexMexBazooka ,

Yes, like they said, contested knowledge

SchrodingersPat OP ,

Yes. I don’t remember the exact numbers but the early 000s deal with computers and the later 000 deal with hoaxes and forgeries
