Saying the parties “switched” is a large oversimplification. But yes, as the Democrats became anti segregation, it had dissatisfied white, racist, voters in the south. Of which Republicans, were all too happy to cater to, thus the “switch”.
After using multiple tiling compositors over the years, I’m pretty much set in how my system works. There’s not much I have to do, except the occasional tweak to keybinds for launching apps, adding some window rule or changing my monitor layout. Those are things I’d have to do on any DE and they don’t take any longer.
Until I need something unexpected not yet set up by me, e.g. switching keyboard layouts. But it’s been a long time since I needed to do any of that. That’s the beauty of config files stored in git: Once it’s set, just forget about it.
Edit: I do agree though, the time it took to arrive where I am is considerable and definitely not something I recommend to others who value their time.
I agree, using WM is like a using a car, its obviously easier to use something ready out-of-the-box but it does not feel as good as customizing your own. Just like people treat cars as their identity you can do the same in your computer and the fact that in some cases you can achieve better performance in your workflow. To me it is like any investment, if it shaves some little time every day, eventually it will pay off.
Until you find out that a usbc plug fits inside a usba port and you can mix them up when reaching around your computer. (Don’t test this on anything that is powered on, I did it on accident once and it triggered my motherboards usb overcurrent failsafe)

same with my old lenovo laptop, i shorted both the power and data pins literally hundreds of times while tinkering with microcontrollers, and all it did is disable the ports until a reboot
Duude I tried blindly plugging in a USB-C at the back of my PC ones, I was like “Aha, gotcha” and then my PC just shut down. First came confusion, then I realized it wiggled left and right. That was incredibly scary, luckily ASRock has good protection circuits so nothing happened.
But I sure as hell haven’t blindly plugged in USB-C since then.

i ironically think than i can better handle stress than my other friends because of grub breaking my sister’s laptop(dual boot) at the worses moments possible, i learned to force me to stay calm to search and read correctly how fix grub before she realized

To be fair, the left images are from Halo 2 and the ones on the right are from Halo 1, so this exact screengrab wouldn’t really be possible to begin with. I’m pretty sure the “doom” meme is a really old Tumblr shitpost that got reposted with different IP/screengrabs over the years (and the RvB one became the popular version?).
I wanted to go to sleep and have a last look at lemmy. I looked at it a bit longer because it looked beautiful and kinda made me think how these birds are literally not flying away or how could this be staged.
But I just forgot AI exists and just didnt even zoom into that thing. Which really is noticable now… but I literally bought it as being real.
