If you are understood buy you’re audience, you have spoken correctly. Correcting someone’s grammer is pointless

roguetrick ,

I dunno what correcting someone’s grammar has to do with paying off your readers. Sounds expensive.

toastal ,

This isn’t speaking, but writing (or typing). Using ‘correct’ spelling & grammar helps ESL speakers read the language as well as those relying on text translation software. Some folks make typos & it’s fine to make mistakes but it’s also strange to act like it’s just as easy to understand. Apostrophes have a specific meaning & many folks rely on them for understanding.

I’m learning a foreign language now & I can tell you it is a massive stumbling block when you run into what you think is a new word, but is ‘just’ a misspelling.

My issue with this account is not its corrections, but if you want to be the correction bot, at least get the typography right too. is as ASCII holdover & it should be .

It used to happen a lot. Havent had it for like 6 months and now its starting to happen again. Mostly with matrix.org users too. No idea what the issue is. Other server make no issues at all so far.

Is this not the kind of thing machine vision/language models would be really good at?

unexposedhazard , to programmerhumor in if you know you know

This was fixed for me since the rust crypto implementation for matrix last year.

AlpacaChariot ,

Is the fix a client thing or is there an interaction with the server as well? I had really bad issues with message decryption on Element for Android last year (July 2023 based on the date I installed a different matrix client).

I’m self-hosting synapse on Debian Bullseye (from bullseye-backports).

unexposedhazard ,

Afaik it was the client implementation, the encryption logic is the same just redone in a different language.

The issue i had was that when using unstable network connections(mostly mobile) it would miss one message or something like that and all following messages wouldnt be decryptable.

This seems to be the version where the switch happened github.com/element-hq/element-android/…/v1.6.0

AlpacaChariot ,

Thanks for the info! I’ll have to give Element another go and see if it’s more reliable for me nowadays.

Link ,

It’s significantly more reliable but it’s not fixed.

Just got some “your server is misconfigured” message when I logged in to my server on element web (on a machine I haven’t installed element desktop on yet) and when I click the link it takes me to this GitHub page talking about camel case vs snake case. Wow amazing, industrialization lifts people out of poverty… never would have realized. The problem with China is that currently, akin to the later stages of the USSR, they’re only redistributing the wealth insofar as that means reprivatizing and consolidating in new hands, not actually redistributing from the wealthy minority to the majority, but creating a new wealthy minority.

yogthos OP ,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Weird how industrialization isn’t lifting people out of poverty in places like India the same way. Wonder what might be different. Maybe a smarty pants such as yourself could enlighten us. 🤔

GiveMemes ,

A far right corporatocratic government that makes exactly zero effort to help the people? I’m not saying China is exclusively bad. The USSR was the only ‘country’ able to successfully play catch up with the west industrially. The problem is when the authoritarian government get old, realize they don’t own anything to secure their families’ continued lavish lifestyle, and reprivatize. I literally went to school with a guy whose grandpa was pals with Mao. Guess whose family is now worth billions and lives a lavish lifestyle in a mansion in Northern China?

I’m not trying to argue socialism is bad, just that it can’t be achieved by an authoritarian government to significant effect.

That’s where the value of democratically achieved socialism comes in, but it would have to be somewhere with an incredibly secure democracy and secure economic status, as the capitalist (elite) forces from outside and within will always work to destroy/impede socialism.

Authoritarian is a nonsensical term, every government holds authority by virtue of having the monopoly on violence, the only question is whose interests the government serves.

China already has democratic socialism. Only westerners pretend otherwise.
