I’ve used filthis.com for years to automatically grab PDFs for credit card bills, mortgage statements, bank statements, and utility bills. It’s taken a lot of the headache out of archiving financial records....
So my family has a few containers of unused blank dvds that are just lying around collecting dust. i know dvds are almost useless because of streaming, but can they still be used. Theses dvds can only be written to once and they only have like 3 gb of storage on them, can they still be used?, do they have a use?
I have a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 8GB of RAM, and I’m looking for a bit more powerful solution that would have similar power consumption. I would like to host a Minecraft server, but chunks take too long to generate. Do you have any recommendations?
I’m asking because I’m wondering if there’s a more efficient way for me to handle my notes at work. Currently I just use a txt file in Notepad++. I use this file to track all of the stuff I have to do, such as tasks for stories I’m working on, next steps for projects, discussions I need to follow up on, questions and...
I don’t like the default of Lemmy opening links in the current window, because sometimes I open a few links at a time. And I dropped my mouse, it landed on the wheel, and the middle button is broken (I know, I know). But this seems like something that should have a setting somewhere anyway.
I’m getting around to setting up and trying to use RSS for the first time. I like it so far, except for one thing, the time efficiency of it. When there is a new story picked up by all outlets I have to hit mark read 5+ times for near identical copy/pastes of the same story....
I’ve been playing with the largest models I can get running and have been using Librewolf or Firefox, but these use several gigabytes of system memory. What options exist that have less overhead? I’m mostly looking at maximizing the model training potential as I’m learning. The obvious solution is python in a terminal, but...
I am a Linux user, but I don’t really know how most things work, even after years of casual use on my Main, I just started getting into Devuan and wondered then, what exacly does systemd do that most distros have it? What even is init freedom? And why should I care?

I plan to start working on my small setup for personal use. While I’m already pretty on certain on what I’ll use on the software side (2 different server with CEPH in network, with an erasure coding (k=2 and k+m=4))...
Hey guys, I am quite new to the whole self-hosting world so I haven’t done too much. Before I dive in deeper though, I’d like to know how I should choose my domain name vendor. Specifically, I only want a domain, no VPS or other hosting capability as I got some old laptops running at home I want to use for testing the...
Like ants nesting on a river bank, some only live a few days. A colony could live for many ant generations on a riverbank but when a big flood comes their entire world is wiped out.
