I know a lot of people on Reddit have a hate boner for Anthony Mackie because of Altered Carbon s2, and it had a pretty terrible teaser trailer, but I just spent my weekend watching the whole show and, to my surprise, I’ve had a lot of fun....
Has anyone done this successfully? There’s a button that says “download,” but nothing happens. I tried a couple of free video downloading apps, and they say access denied. I can watch, but not download. (Some people post videos of classical music concerts there, then share links on a forum, in case you wondered.)
Why do the instances keep going down? It makes me think that this is not a reliable social network, but the alternatives are not as good.
The whole idea is a privacy minefield, so it would have to be very carefully designed and implemented, of course making it opt-in. But still, should we even pursue this idea?...
I just tried to set up Chiaki on mxlinux and ran into issues rebinding the controls to my dual sense. I am running the appimage or the most recent Chiaki and was able to connect to my PS5. When trying to rebind the controls from KB it was not recognizing any inputs from my controller. I made sure I had libsdl up to date and...
To be clear I’m a beginner and I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the information I found and not completely sure if the information I found is up to date or outdated and I figured I would just ask here to get some clear answers....
The app I want to launch is Borderless Gaming. I don’t play games that require it very often. So, I don’t want to have to set it to launch when the PC starts. I found via this article that the way to launch steam apps via command line would be like this: steam://run/, so I came up with: steam://run/388080....
I’ve got a lot of services, some in docker, some in LXC or a VM in proxmox. Currently I’ve got no monitoring service. Recently a service went down and I didn’t notice for quite a while so now I’ve got a bunch of missing data. What monitoring tools do you all use? Looking for something that works with docker and plain...
I’m looking for a recommendation on a full bluetooth headset, not earbuds. I would prefer if it had the boom style protruding microphone and that it would support an easily replaceable battery. I am sick of discarding bluetooth headsets due to battery problems as it’s not environmentally friendly. Does one exist in the...
I had an account on lemmy.one and now the instance has been down for a day or two so I made this new account. I also heard other small instances are dead or disappeared....
Quo Vadis, Aida? (2021): Bosnia, July 1995. Aida is a translator for the UN in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN camp....
Looking for an alternative to synology photos. I moved over to synology about 3 years ago and am now considering moving out of the synology ecosystem. I’m looking for something that has a decent android app, wifi syncing, shareable albums, all the standard stuff....
Since I’ve been on Lemmy, I don’t know what my use is for Mastodon anymore. It’s dead on there anyway. I don’t have anyone to talk to and nobody responds to my posts.
Like for instance someone saying “Gopher John” when answering the phone. What does this mean?
I really just want to experience the outdoors as much as possible. I’m a cyclist (mountain, in this context), and I used to snowboard, but as a I age these activities feel a bit riskier (meaning I may hurt myself) to me personally. What are some good ways to experienced the outdoors with relatively low risk of injury?...
One should be at the bottom one at the top. I understand space on the phone is a premium but a second port would make the phone so much more usable. Wired headphones, flash drives, camera modules, speaker modules, keyboards, even connection to a TV, all could be used while charging. It’s a shame it’s not a thing, USB is...

Is there anybody whose had experience with both?...
What does it actually do? When it’s on, I get a redirecting error when trying to connect to my nextcloud at cloud.example.com, but with it off, it seems like I can’t connect to NC using http anyway? Am I misunderstanding what it does?...
First post on these alternative sites so forgive any mistakes. My external hard drive (a small travel one) was enclosed in a padded hard-shell case like this one but I’m still worried. When I went on vacation, I had the hard drive in a bag that I was dragging down the (carpeted) stairs. I don’t know if the protective case...
**EDIT (2023-07-31T22:18:52Z):**I have realized that I was not clear in my original intent for this post – it could be interepereted to mean that I am asking whether or not you could access, for example, Lemmy through the Tor browser. This is not what I meant. What I was more alluding to was if it were possible to create a...

It seems that self hosting, for oneself, a federated service, like Lemmy, would only serve to increase the traffic in the network, and not actually serve the purpose of load balancing between servers....
