I moved from aussie.zone to lemmy.world already to get around federation issues.
Now beehaw.org has stopped federating with lemmy.world š¤·āāļø
I donāt want to have half a dozen accounts so that I can access all the niches of this system, and yet itās beggining to look like the dream of federation is stillborn.
Yea. I feel like Beehaw cutting a lot of the larger general communities out from two of the biggest instances is highlighting early a major hurdle thatās gonna make the whole fediverse thing difficult to get a lot of people on board with. I donāt want to have to keep making new accounts to access stuff, but likeā¦ half of the communities I had subscribed to are just gone now because the admins over there decided they donāt want to play with anyone else, I guess.
To be fair, that's how things used to be on the internet. You'd sign up for various forums or message boards with different accounts. Then it all became consolidated under one roof, and message boards started dying. What's happening with reddit now shows the danger of that.
Thatās absolutely wild. I bet if he owned a garage, heād expect you to be able to fix a car in the dark.
Question tho, as someone not in IT, how do you handle HIPPA policies. Clearly you have to have access, but I assume the info would just be backed up seperately from other data.
I worked as a Data Engineer in health insurance for almost a decade. Iām Canadian, but we have similar laws and the answer is basically that every employee signs a lot of NDAs. Data access should be limited to what you need to do your role, and any data that leaves the company has to be totally stripped of personal identifying information (usually some form of data masking).
That being said, I never found it difficult to get access to data, it was usually just another NDA to sign. I did work with government policies for a bit where I had to go to a government facility and get finger printed and all that before they gave me access, that was interesting. I work in tech now and the controls around data access are a lot more serious, gotta jump through a lot of hoops to get access to anything. Probably because of the scrutiny tech is under these days.
I have watched this show so many times. I could just close my eyes with the audio in the background narrating the scenes as I replay them in my mind. It would put me right to sleep haha. Almost like someone reading me my favorite bedtime story as a kid. I think the subreddit had 20k+ members before Reddit died. So we are definitely not alone.
This is great, I subbed. I am trying to setup a server dedicated to motorcycling (r/motorcycles etc). Really like that we can setup specialty sites. Usenet 2.0
My moneyās on the chairman not learning from the experience either; he still blamed you even though he was totally unable to find a way to actually blame you.
