Steve is from Massachusetts, and Bob is from Illinois.

I’m curious if Steve used to sound more New England, and possibly trained himself to speak in a more “neutral” Midwestern accent.

Although, they are the same age, so maybe it was a trend they picked up in the 70s?

Cagi , (edited )

The Western New England accent is very different from your classic Foggettaboudit east coast accent. Unless you’re an academic linguistics researchers, it’s basically the same as American standard. He was luckily born into his accent.

Rhynoplaz ,

How West is Western New England? He was born and raised just outside of Boston. That’s usually a pretty distinct accent, and not a foggetabouit accent. I see he went to school in Ohio. I think it’s more likely he lost it there, but I’m just a random guy. I just throw theories out.

A community dedicated to mostly humorous instances of queer erasure.

Abides by that specific community's rules. However, I feel "They Were Roommates" would work better for the name of a community for general humorous instances of queer erasure, as "Sappho and Her Friend" makes me expect it's either lesbian-only or woman-only.

flamingos OP ,

The original reddit sub wasn’t wlw specific either, but I can change the display name to “They Were Roommates” if people want.

Elevator7009 ,

I also figured it might have been something like that but I didn't follow the Reddit sub. (Also, it is your community, you can do what you want, but we don't have to be a 1:1 copy of them if we do not want to be!)

Neofetch is written in bash, you should be able to source it without installing it, doesnt even need to be executable

Did you know Need For Speed: World is alive and kicking? Not officially, obviously, but through the power of fan servers and the wonderful project that is Soapbox Race World. It’s not the best NFS in the series and can be pretty tough if you play it without power ups but it’s fun.

For those who never heard of NFS:W - it’s a live service, online only entry in the series. It consists of maps from Most Wanted and Carbon combined into one and brings some additional gameplay changes specific for the live service model (power ups, performance parts with incremental stats upgrades etc). It also has a pretty good visual editor - can be a bit cumbersome at times but you can do some great stuff with it.

Fan servers are surprisingly active and provide A LOT of new cars, parts etc do play with. They also have different rules so if you want a place where getting everything you want is easy, you can do that as well.

My second game is Wagahime or Waga Himegimi ni Eikan o, a comedy visual novel by Minato Soft. Unlike their other work (that I read anyway) it’s set in a medieval fantasy world with magic, beast races and all the usual stuff. It has three main routes, each expanding the world and providing details for the other ones, and each filled with fun characters and events.

I won’t be spending much time on it since all that’s left is finishing the final route but it’s a great read and I really wanted to mention it. Minato Soft seriously reignited my love for VNs lately.

Last but not least, Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery - a sci-fi strategy RPG. It came out this year so I’m not going to go too much into it but it’s a great and at times challenging title. Worth looking into if you’re interested in this genre.

I don’t know how hard it would be to set up proton without any administrator rights, but it might be interesting to try and run crysis 3 on it too.

thingsiplay ,

You could try to use Proton GE, which you just download, unpack and execute the proton executable in it. There are a few variables to set, but no administrator rights is needed. I wrote a little script years ago, which got a bit semi-viral (if we can call it that, but to me it was xD): proton script You need to read and adapt the parts, but at least you can see how this works. There is also a fork, who made an advanced version of it. I have no idea if these scripts work without Steam. But that is left as an exercise to the reader.

BTW its not really recommended to play non Steam games or apps with proton (because it could messup something on your Steam installation, but that is probably irrelevant on the library PC), but it worked for me for regular Windows applications. I did not need to install WINE for that and just used my Proton from Steam back then. Today I have no need for it anymore and don’t know how well this works.

Chef_Boyardee , to asklemmy in What is an event that altered you in some way?

Nothing yet, unfortunately. I’ve been in trouble so many times. I never learn.

I’m almost afraid to type this, but I think it’s gonna take a serious incident to change me.

I’m not violent, I’m not a thief, I’m not a pervert. I refuse to hurt, or put anyone at risk of being hurt. I just make dumb decisions that affect me.

moistclump ,

Me too and got my diagnosis which at least put those incidents into perspective and gave me help that would actually make a difference instead of just trying to judge myself into “being better” or “normal”.

cashmaggot OP ,

Y, every piece I get of the puzzle better helps understand why I couldn't just be a "good little girl" so to speak. Nothing is written in a language I totally get and I am just trying my best to squiggle my way through life as a whole. One big thing I can say though, is that if you don't understand certain things you can always ask for further clarification. Write everything down that's important, because it could be gone in the blink of an eye. And don't let people take the reigns of your health. Advocate for yourself, and know that you're just one of a billion folks they see so your meet ups are way more important to you than them. Even if they're big old bleeding heart types (which is rare because it's pretty counter the skeptical analytical process necessary to work in the medical field).

cashmaggot OP ,

If you find that you're having trouble always making "dumb" decisions you might want to get yourself checked out for ADHD. Because I myself have it, and medicated and unmediated isn't a SEA of difference, but it does help. Likewise, someone I know also has it and really harmed themselves with their impulse control. They kept pushing it further and further - until like you said. They're also medicated now, and while they still need to push it (I think it's hardwired) - their level of what pushing it is has come down dramatically.

GTA IV for the first time. I’m liking it so far

Absolutely loved that game. Was so stoked for its release (i watched one of the trailers oh so many times in anticipation) and got it at launch (not very patient of me…) and was not let down at all.

technomad , to nostupidquestions in US regional accents: Saul Goodman and Michael Scott

Yeah, I can understand the relation you’re making there. They both have that upward inflection. Higher pitch. I don’t know if their accents would be considered the same because of these qualities though.

palebluethought , to nostupidquestions in US regional accents: Saul Goodman and Michael Scott

I don’t think of either of them as having any specific regional accent at all. I think they just have somewhat similar voices and mannerisms

Ghost of Tsushima - Took a while to click, but now I’m really enjoying it. Pulling off some of the sword moves perfectly feels so satisfying. And it’s gorgeous to look at.

And also Dave the Diver. Very charming game and it keeps adding more and more layers to the gameplay. The gameplay loop is really fun so far.

stsquad ,

I really enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima when it premiered on the PS5. As you say the satisfaction of pulling off the sword moves is really nice. The story isn’t bad either and some of the fight bosses certainly keep you on your toes. I brought the DLC expansion the day it came out just so I could spend some more time slashing away ;-)

I was wanting to play something ‘Assassin’s Creed-y’ and this has really fit the bill! I like how easily you can be killed.

Should I play the DLC content after I’ve beaten the main game? It looks like I can go to the additional island whenever I want.
