JokeDeity , to piracy in Adobe stole my creative suite

I’ve been pirating Photoshop since I was 14 in 2005, and I’ve only been proven time and again that they don’t deserve my money. Easily one of the greediest, greasiest companies out there.

But you aren’t even on lemmy.world? Why not just block the instance?

MagisterSieran ,

I wish that actually fully blocked everything coming from an instance and not just its communities.

LibertyLizard ,

Wait blocking an instance doesn’t block its users? That seems a bit useless.

Ziggurat , to asklemmy in Seeking Active Lemmy Instances Unrelated to Lemmy.world: Advice Needed

What does "without any connection to LW means ? There is a lot of lemmy instances, plenty being active. Which language do you look for ? Which kind of content do you like ? Do you want a big generic instance (SJW, Lemmee), a niche instance (ttrpg network, grad), a national instance (feddit), do you want downvotes to be turned off (Blahaj) ? Do you want to use lemmy or mbin ?

7U5K3N , to patientgamers in What have you been playing this week?

The wife and I are doing our first play through of stardew valley.

It’s a lot better than I expected

wizardbeard ,

If you’re playing on PC and end up wanting more content, I can’t reccomend the Stardew Valley Expanded modpack enough.

Adds a ton of new townsfolk, and an entire second neighboring town, all as fully fleshed out as the OG townies and all woven in with base game content to the point that they don’t stand out as mod added.

Maybe SVE on the first playthrough is a little much…

Thanks! We will finish vanilla and then look into mods. We haven’t even unlocked ginger island yet. Haha

ALSO the anthro character mod… my sweet dragon Abigail.

FellowEnt , to games in Do you prefer RPGs or FPS games?

I almost exclusively play VR FPS these days. I only have time for short <1hr play sessions so my RPG days are on hold until life allows it.

What would happen if you lather yourself in soap so you’re really slippery and then you sit in a bath?

Actually you’d probably hurt yourself getting into the bath so maybe don’t try this.

I think some of us admit to doing this as kids.

hopefull_cottonball , to linux in I managed to get neofetch running on the library pc

1.so your library PCs run ubuntu? that’s cool, my uni uses win11.

2.did you mount the USB stick and then add the directory with neofetch in it to path? Or did you do something else?

Sparky OP ,

All government owned libraries in Oslo Norway use Ubuntu. I was originally trying to install hyfetch as python was installed. Pip was not, so I tried running the setup script from the source code but it failed as it relies on some pip dependencies. I did find the neofetch script in the source code, and I ran it straight from the usb drive. I did not set the usb directory with neofetch to path as I don’t want to configure things that might break the pc for other people.

immychan ,

Huh, I had no idea. It’s so cool that Norwegian libraries do that

fmstrat , to science_memes in this one goes out to the urban planning nerds

While we’re at it, cover parking lots in solar panels.

NeatNit ,

From what I’ve heard (and I DO NOT understand it, at all) this is cost prohibitive and impractical.

fmstrat ,

Not sure how this would be the case, would love to see a reference here.

VinnyDaCat , (edited )

It’s like a lot of things in life. It depends and it can be complicated.

Upfront costs for infrastructure besides the panels themselves is expensive and in places where electricity is already cheap companies won’t bother.

You also have to conduct tests to ensure that the grid and transformers can handle more power, and if they can’t then you have more infrastructure that needs upgrades.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t do this. We really need to in the long run but it isn’t something we can simply snap our fingers and do instantly.

Also, a lot of the unprofitability comes from VC culture in my opinion. The individuals at the top of businesses often times won’t stick around with the business long enough to start see the savings from solar energy.
