Sorry if it is misunderstanding. I meant no app if possible, but a Foss app would be OK if unavoidable

pedz ,

It is I that misunderstood the whole thing.

But since we’re here, I use an SSH server app worth about $3 on my phone to access it from other devices with an SFTP or SSHFS client. The app is literally called “SSH Server”. Once the server is active I can use an app like Solid Explorer (free with ads or paying for a license) on another Android device to connect to my phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Or from Windows I can just map a network drive using the format \sshfs\user@ip. And on Linux just find the “Connect to server” option in your favorite file explorer to use SSHFS. Or any SFTP client of your choice.

I’m not familiar with Wi-Fi Direct since I’ve been using SSH for years now, and certainly much more work this way, but it works okay across all my devices.

@BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks, that’s an interesting option. It reminded me that I used primitive ftpd a long time ago, which is a Foss app to create a local ftp server, which you can then browse from other devices. I had forgotten as it was probably 6 or 7 years ago, and I’m happy to see it’s still being developed. This still relies on a local network of course, like yours. I don’t know if it could work over mobile data, I suppose you would need to run a full server and a domain name. Mind you it is feasible

Soulslike is when game hard, 3D, combat and boss fight focused, with dodge mechanics and real time combat. Or are you gonna tell me Super Meatboy is soulslike because it’s hard?

MacNCheezus ,
@MacNCheezus@lemmy.today avatar

It seems to me that the most distinctive feature is the save mechanic that essentially splits the game into levels where you can only save your progress when you reach a campfire.

For example, Jedi: Fallen Order is a soulslike because it has the same mechanic (with meditation circles instead of campfires), despite being SciFi themed. It does also have all those other things you mentioned, but arguably, so does Skyrim, which is definitely not a soulslike.

By this definition, Demon’s Souls is not a soulslike.

MacNCheezus ,
@MacNCheezus@lemmy.today avatar

I never played that, but according to its Wikipedia page “When a player is killed during a level, they are sent to the beginning of the level with all non-boss enemies re-spawned, while the player returns in soul form with lower maximum health and the loss of all unused souls.”

The real question is whether this makes Super Mario a souls-like.

Sordid ,
@Sordid@lemmy.world avatar

It’s almost as if the Souls series was a deliberate throwback inspired by classic games and used mechanics copied from them.

I’m writing a story, and I suspect that one of my characters is subconsciously a Gary Sue. To compensate for this, he gets all of the traits I hate about myself, complete with fuckups and repercussions.

I cam vouch for Snapdrop/Pairdrop or whatever it is called nowadays. Requires opening a browser and being on the same network. Snapdrop does support sending files over the internet, but I couldn’t get it to work last time I tried.

Given the overwhelmingly negative response from the community, what is the justification for leaving the bot in place? Is it because the moderators think they know better than everyone else?

Rooki OP ,
@Rooki@lemmy.world avatar

Overwhelmingly negative? Those are the 24/7 negative users. We do anything: Those guys: THIS IS IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY

So you stand alone in that statement. See the post vote score.

We give you the option to block it. Block it.

sandbox ,

Numerous comments contain thoughtfully researched, balanced and reasonable criticisms, and your reaction is to basically call them just a bunch of negative nellies, rather than to consider maybe whether they have a point.

If I made a bot that shared fake news in comments on every single news story, would you say that having the option to block that bot is sufficient? I can block anyone, yet you still ban people for breaking the rules here.

You’re getting way too defensive, and digging your heels in - criticism isn’t always bad faith.

Rooki OP ,
@Rooki@lemmy.world avatar

They have a point but strict fake news it isnt. It is not an option to leave it without any second bias opinion. Its not banning anyone. If you dislike it and demand it to be shutdown for democracy. Then you arent allowing other opinions.

sandbox , (edited )

You’ve made a bot which shares the political opinions of one dude as a comment to every single news story on here. A pro-zionist, right-wing dude.

I’m willing to make a public API to share my media bias and fact-checking report, as well. Will you add my opinion to every news post automatically as well, please? It would save me a lot of trouble!

Chozo , to piracy in What do ya'll think of camming (filming newly released films)?

Back in the early days, watching a cammed movie was tolerable because the 480p rips that we'd otherwise get were so heavily compressed that there'd be hardly any step up in quality. It was also usually the fastest way I could find a new movie.

These days, releases get leaked from inside the studio all the time, at full quality, so there's not really any legitimate need for cammed movies anymore.

Petter1 ,

I would not say “all the time” at least the movies I watch, but it is mostly only some months (if even) until a movie is available on some streaming service and gets ripped in 4k

Jumuta , (edited ) to linux in Linux Gaming PC 2024 (with Coreboot-Support)?

aside from the redundancy, an integrated gpu is really useful when you need video acceleration in VMs, because you can pass them through as a pcie device and get good performance in games running in VMs

also I don’t have experience with this but VM disk performance would be drastically improved if you got a 2nd drive (even those really cheap SSDs like the NV2) to pass through to the VM rather than making it use a emulated drive

Action games could either be hard or last 20 minutes.

They chose hard.

SuperSaiyanSwag ,

At least I can fight Malenia 50+ times without any tedious things in-between. If you die three times at a boss in an 80s game, you’re starting that game over. I would say that if 80s/90s games had similar qol improvements then most of them would not be as hard as souls games.

sneezycat ,
@sneezycat@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, most of the challenge back in the day was clunk, lack of information, and game design derived from arcades, where you had to die so that you’d use more quarters.
