@games What demos did you try today? | DAY 2

Greetings festive fellowship of the fediverse, it's the second day of the , and there are still many games to discover and discuss, let's share our mutual discoveries of today

Goblin Cleanup - I never got around to Viscera Cleanup Detail, so I figured I’d give the demo of this a shot. Honestly, it was a great few hours with 2 friends for free. You play as goblin maids cleaning up a dungeon after (presumably) a TPK. You have to mop blood using slimes, put furnature back in place, feed meat chunks to a mimic, and power up traps using a mana device. Oh, and the traps will kill you too… causing extra work for you (or your laughing/annoyed friends).

This could be the first major game to properly implement a truly infinite divergent quest system! There have been plenty of attempts in the past, but this team has a lot of experience with procedural generation. Looking forward to this one.

You mean another one? Impossible Lair was actually great.

To expand on that, in live service games, there are daily high value quests that can usually be completed in 15 minutes. This is to provide a big incentive to log in every day and a low bar to get some great rewards. It’s a habit-forming technique. But if you enjoy the game, it’s an easy and quick way to get currency you’d otherwise have to buy.

Where can I find the actual video of the decapitations? It looks like uploads might be taken down? Tons of tweets saying it’s everywhere on the internet, but I don’t use Twitter and I can’t find any uploads.

Real talk: it’s been widely understood that AI–in its current state–is an unreliable source of factual information. Why the hell is Google pushing it at the top of search results?

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, known for enforcing brutal crackdowns on political opposition and seen as a potential successor to the supreme leader, has died in a helicopter crash landing in the country’s north, state media reported Monday.

Perfect Dark Reboot Is Allegedly In Bad Shape (www.gamespot.com)

I don’t think big companies know how to make a good FPS campaign anymore, let alone hone in on classic deathmatch multiplayer. The last FPS I bought was Half-Life: Alyx four years ago, and the first one to come along and interest me since then was Phantom Fury, but I’m letting that one iron out bugs for a few weeks before I...

Zoomboingding ,
@Zoomboingding@lemmy.world avatar

Probably not exactly what you’re looking for, but Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was a great campaign that’s technically an FPS with a lot of RPG heaped on top.

Hard disagree. It got me walking around and exploring my town. It got me in contact with other Pokemon fans. It’s added an extra layer of reality on top of everywhere I go - vacations become rare opportunities for indiginous species hunting, which in turn become valuable trade offers.

Exercise is now a game, and I would otherwise be in front of a PC screen.

While it’s good news not to have a fresh school shooting, how hard is it to detain a middle schooler without murdering them…?

What if they’re doing a rendition of Concerning Hobbits on a bagpipe, thetemin, and has auto-tuned rap lyrics?

Counterpoint: it’s a good way to teach responsibility to kids. You wouldn’t leave 100% of the care of a dog or cat to a kid, but for a hamster or goldfish, they can be fully responsible (for better or worse).

SNES??? How could RPS do Sega dirty like that…

EDIT: rofl there’s an update to the article:

Update 26th April 2024: As has been pointed out to me overnight by a thousand helpful, furious strangers, describing a Sega fangame (one with Saturn button prompts, no less) as “SNES-style” is a crime deserving of imprisonment in the deepest depths of the Labyrinth Zone. Speaking as a former Genesis/Mega Drive diehard, I can only hang my head.

Never really understood the complaints about this tbh. Any time there’s relevant info from another movie or show, they summarize it, or it’s not necessary to enjoy the work on its own.

Like, Ms. Marvel has a magic bracelet and Photon is upset that Capt. Marvel disappeared for her whole life. That’s enough to go on and just enjoy the movie. If you want more detail, watch a YouTube video later, or just watch the series later 🤷

The comics have been operating this way for 100 years. If you want to start reading Batman, you don’t have to start with Detective Comics #1.

Instagram Advertises Nonconsensual AI Nude Apps (www.404media.co)

Instagram is profiting from several ads that invite people to create nonconsensual nude images with AI image generation apps, once again showing that some of the most harmful applications of AI tools are not hidden on the dark corners of the internet, but are actively promoted to users by social media companies unable or...

I believe their point is that an employer logically shouldn’t care if some third party fabricates an image resembling you. We still have an issue with latent puritanism, and this needs to be addressed as we face the reality of more and more convincing fakes of images, audio, and video.

Zoomboingding ,
@Zoomboingding@lemmy.world avatar

I think the only thing we can do is to help out by calling this out. AI fakes are just advanced gossip, and people need to realize that.

Zoomboingding ,
@Zoomboingding@lemmy.world avatar

The ubiquity of AI fakes will necessitate a cultural shift. Honestly, the world is going to be a nightmare of misinformation soon and nudes may very well be the least of our worries.

What other options do we have? An ironclad verification system for any fabricated content? Wildly harsh penalties for all caught creating it? The ship has sailed - we won’t be able to prevent it from happening.

I’d argue that overexposure will make people quickly become accustomed/nonplussed at information we don’t believe to be true and verify with the source. Look at how we treat other fabricated content - if I showed you a screencap of the Pope saying “Fuck” you’d want to verify with a source directly.

Zoomboingding ,
@Zoomboingding@lemmy.world avatar

In most cases, the answer should really be “It’s none of my business”, but yes, it’d involve asking the person whether they’re authentic if you needed to verify for some reason.

But yes it really is wishful thinking, because it’s honestly about to be a shitshow. People are going to start getting credibly framed for things like child porn.
