If you go down the VPS route, a headscale server on a cheap $3.50 VPS would be the way to go. Wouldn’t even have to deal with IP addresses at that point, while still being able to self-host all your services, with the cheap VPS being a glorified switch/firewall.

Dell/HP SFF? 7th-9th gen CPUs, super cheap, quiet, should idle at 10-15W.

Only issue is 4x 3.5" drives for sure won’t fit, you need a pretty unique case to do that in mini-ITX size I think

Not sure which ones have NVMe slots, would have to research that.

sugar_in_your_tea OP ,

As long as it has the ports, I can look into options for cases. I only need 2x 3.5" drives for now, the other two are just for upgrade options (e.g. buy two bigger drives, copy from existing array to new array, remove old drives, etc).

I’ll have to check those out.

They have proprietary motherboard and psu, so I’d just look at doing a full diy build maybe.

I’ve gotta ask, why RAID 0? I can’t think of a use case for that outside of very specific high IO applications in a server farm or something.

skullgiver ,
@skullgiver@popplesburger.hilciferous.nl avatar

Double the capacity, double the speed, double the risk. If you have your entire system backed up, you can throw caution in the wind and risk taking out your entire system when one of the drives dies.

I used to run two older HDDs in RAID0 to speed up loading games; if one of the HDDs died, I would’ve bought something better in its place, and I could re-download the game whenever I want.

MangoPenguin ,
@MangoPenguin@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Oh for sure it made sense back in the HDD days, but with NVMe SSDs it’s not needed for most people anymore.

Use LVM, it will give you all the features of RAID 0 and more (encryption, migration, snapshotting, multiple volumes, etc)

BackOnMyBS , to nostupidquestions in Why are weather apps so bad at telling you the current weather?
@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.autism.place avatar

I just looked at my weather app (Today Weather), and the report of the current temperature varies by 6°F depending on which data set I choose. I go with the National Weather Service (federal govt).

https://lemmy.autism.place/pictrs/image/109589d8-0d53-4516-a319-0f77130dd1bb.png

As far as predicting precipitation, the radar seems pretty good for the next few hours. I press play on it, and it tells me what it thinks the radar will look like for the next 7 hours in 15 mins increments.

I think that predicting the weather beyond a day gets pretty difficult because the weather is too chaotic. The best they can do is to gather data from local weather stations and see how often it rained when they had these same data in the past. So basically, it’s like saying, “When the temp has been 85°F, humidity 62%, wind from WNW at 5 kts, pressure at 1016 mBar, and the date was July 29, it rained 6 times out of 10.”

I mean there are dozens of us here 😆. But seriously, I know I’m not as stoked about the new seasons, it’s just not the same. It’s a bit weird seeing the resurrected corpse of one of your favorite shows stumbling around and repeating jokes it used to tell.

Lizardking27 OP ,

Fair enough. But I dont know if I’d compare it to a resurrected corpse. The gang is mostly intact, they’re still trying to make a good show, it’s just not fueled by the same fresh, youthful inspiration it once was.

Tanoh ,

I liked the last season for the most part, but the episodes were very hit or miss. And I feel like this one was another miss. Hopefully the other episodes will be better.
