Look up whathowwhy on YouTube. He’s a dude from the UK who puts stuff into epoxy. A few years a go he put a hotdog into a cube of epoxy and would do periodic video updates on the hotdog. One year I actually watched the New Years Eve livestream of the hotdog slowly spinning on a dias. He’d put a little party hat on it and the live chat was absolutely hilarious.

Do you mean you want to insert an inline image? To do that you need to use markdown embed, like so:

optional image title

Exclamation point makes the image appear inline, instead of as a link.

RubyRhod ,

That didn’t work with the above edit.

The only problem with your image above is that the link to is broken. If you insert an existing URL from web, it will work.

Not sure why your uploads don’t work though.

Huge waste of material on the label.

Since the labels are larger, the boxes for those tea bags will need to be larger too. That incurs in additional waste of material and storage space.

People working in markets selling those tea bags will complain. Now their boxes don’t fit in the aisle alongside boxes with tea bags of other brands.

Customers will find it clunky and convoluted. Some will understand why the dev did it, and get angry - because from their PoV it’ll sound like the dev is saying “I assume that you’re a muppet, unable to distinguish the label from the bag”.

And some will still do like others said: use a larger pot, fold the label, etc. Defeating the purpose of the change.

There are plenty situations where you can be smart. This is not one of them, stick to standards and document it properly. “This is the bag, it goes in. This is the label, it goes out.”

(Not that it changes much for me. I’m still ripping the tea bag apart and mixing the contents with my yerba mate. Unexpected use case!)

You don’t.

There doesn’t exist a site to magically do what you want.

Likewise it’s not needed. It doesn’t add to the quality of discussion on the community. All it’s going to do is cause conflict as we now have to constantly point out to people how garbage the source is so that they don’t let it influence them.

As the other poster says we don’t need to have something like this at all.

If you’re adamant about it then make a post where people can suggest which one we use and vote on it. We can also adjust the bots comment to clearly call out the chosen ones biases and methodology. As it is now it’s actively harmful as I mention in my other comment.

Hugh_Jeggs ,

I find the only people that say MBFC is biased, are just saying they themselves have biased opinions so they don’t agree with the MBFC rating

I’m 1000% with you on this

geneva_convenience ,

Every newspaper has its bias. MBFC heavily favors western liberal perspectives. It is often fine on domestic policy but not reliable when it comes to foreign policy.

As this is worldnews and not Americanews, MBFC ratings are not reliable. Articles should be judged by the evidence they provide.

AdmiralObesLol ,

Maalus ,

Boooo. Running a community as a mod-dictator and not being able to hear feedback and react to it like an adult. Just because you thought of something, doesn’t mean it is a good idea or that people will like it. The approach of “better than nothing” is naive and plain wrong - misinformation isn’t “better than nothing” it actively hurts the community.

nia_the_cat ,
@nia_the_cat@lemmy.world avatar

Seeing as this is the stance the admins stance on decisions that are majority hated by the community, I’m just gonna leave this instance and go to one with admins that are more user-focused.

I expect community leaders to take reasonable feedback from the community respectfully even if they disagree, rather than doubling down on very unpopular decisions. Especially when said community funds the platform.

The majority of the bots posts have more downvotes than upvotes. The community has voiced its dislike for this bot as a majority.

AhismaMiasma ,

Rooki OP ,

No we dont. We saw the expected “ReMoVe ThE BoT” comments, because MBFC did hurt their feelings by not rating their favourite newspage the highest creditability on earth.

And just block it, then you can imagine how it is without the bot.

AhismaMiasma ,

I don’t care what it rates a particular news page, I care that you’re treating this as an objective/unbiased authority on truth that you feel needs to be communicated on every single post.

You could take a moment to reflect on all of the responses you’ve received, but your comments make it clear that you don’t value other perspectives.

Kongar , to science_memes in Hats

I have a reef tank. In it is a tuxedo urchin. Mine has these hats as well - it’s fairly common amongst us hobbyists, and yes it’s always funny.

Urchins are fantastic and voracious algae eaters. They like to shade themselves from the lights and camouflage themselves. They pick up EVERYTHING. If it’s not glued down, the urchin will be wearing it as a hat eventually. Even if it IS superglued down, there’s a good chance they’ll rip it up and wear it as a hat.

My urchin carried a hermit crab around for days. Poor crab was like “hey man put me down!” He didn’t - a few days later the hermit crab moved to a new shell.

My urchin is one of, if not my most favorite tank inhabitant.

BroccoLemuria ,

That’s absolutely hilarious, I never knew they were so relentless to cover themselves. Thanks for the great story!

Since there’s no community in lemmy, I have some questions. Do you have a freshwater or saltwater tank? Would you recommend it? How much maintenance or upkeep do you do?

Kongar ,

Those my friend are some loaded questions! :)

But I’m happy to answer. In my opinion there are three types of tanks. Freshwater, saltwater with just fish (often called FOWLR - fish only with live rock), and a reef tank (has corals).

My tank is a reef tank. Freshwater and fish only saltwater tanks are cake. Mixing saltwater being the main difference. Corals add probably 2 or three orders of magnitude in challenge, knowledge, required maintenance, and money. Some corals are pretty forgiving and easy to keep, others are downright difficult.

My tank is a small one - 20G. Small tanks are less $, but in my opinion they are extremely hard. Everything about keeping corals is about stability - fish tolerate wide ranges of water parameters, but some corals die overnight if the temp rises a degree, or salinity moves just a bit, etc. Nanos are hard because of the small water volume, one drop of something in my tank moves the needle - one drop in a 200G tank is undetectable. On the plus side, I can “fix” a problem with a large water change (I can mix 20G of water, I can’t mix 400G).

I spend about one half hour per week doing water changes, scrubbing, and doing maintenance. I’ve gotten good at it, when I first started I probably spent 5ish hours a week. It’s worth noting I’ve spent considerable effort building mixing stations and creating a system to do maintenance quickly.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely-as long as you have a few things:

  1. You REALLY like saltwater fish and corals - like you don’t get bored of looking at the same fish for coral for 30 years (because that’s how long they live)
  2. You are willing to commit to learning a lot first. If you just do it without learning, you’ll fail. I recommend watching the BRS 52 weeks of reefing on YouTube.
  3. You have the time and desire to do the maintenance-bigger tanks take more time than mine.

I’ve always wanted a reef tank. I could watch it all day long everyday. Long ago, I realized the $ and commitment required, and backed off because I wasn’t ready. As I got older with more disposable cash, I took the plunge and I’m super happy I did. But it’s been the hardest hobby I’ve ever tried to be successful at and at times it’s been heartbreaking. But I think I’ve figured it all out at this point, and I’d encourage anyone who has the fascination for these animals to take the plunge-it’s worth it if you enjoy these creatures.

Fiat doesn’t work on a finite planet.

Citations needed.

SuckMyWang ,

I’m unsure of what a finite planet is referencing? Is op suggesting that economic limits are constrained to finite resources? This doesn’t take into account renewables, human creativity and a whole list of other things. If we create a matrix like environment where the limits can be expanded and create new products in that new environment we can still use fiat.

davel ,
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

I don’t know why they’re conflating infinite money with finite resources. The two have no relationship to each other.

MCasq_qsaCJ_234 ,

Technically, Planet Earth is huge for us because we cannot use it efficiently or in a reasonable time, and we don’t even have to talk about the sun.

aviation_hydrated OP ,

I think we need more restrictions on finances, so our human creativity can effect. What I see is that most advanced civilizations’ largest export is literal trash due to excess and waste, so I figured why not have a discussion about it

Also, every fiat currency has failed in the two ways it can: hyperinflation or clout loss due to no trust in the issuing party (which tends to lead to hyperinflation). Innovation has stalled or at least hit the top of the S curve over the last 50 years, with mostly remixes of old ideas that tend to expedite the finite resources we have, so I don’t think technology will outpace inflation

aviation_hydrated OP ,

Very true, I’ll do some research and if I remember I’ll give you some papers

I commented below with a similar idea. Like a public indoor park, for when Outside™ is no longer an option for recreation due to climate issues. They are big enough to accommodate large playgrounds, both child and adult style, running tracks, swimming pools, sports fields/courts. Keep the food court, sure, throw in a library, etc.

If we ever get a house and senate progressive enough to shave like 0.000000001% of the military budget we could put one in every abandoned mall and have funds left over.

tunetardis ,

Yeah that sounds awesome!

I was just trying to say that once you privatize something like a mall to make it housing or whatever it is, you will never get it back. The city or some public trust should hold onto the property. What you actually do with it depends on what would be best for the community I guess?

Being a Canadian, just having some indoor places where you can gather in to get out of the cold in the dead of winter is something I don’t think we should give up.
