BrainisfineIthink , to asklemmy in Is anyone else enjoying the slower pace of content?

Idk about everyone else, but I sort by new on Lemmy and “all” WAY more than I ever would on reddit. Even sorting by new or all on reddit it just shuffles around the same 100 posts they want you to see. Here people post about all kinds of stuff!

Morcyphr , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] Won't Let Me Go To Jury Duty? Enjoy Being Questioned In Court

Hikermick , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] Won't Let Me Go To Jury Duty? Enjoy Being Questioned In Court

Your boss should have asked you to try and reschedule your jury duty if he needed you that badl for an event. I got summoned, called them up in advance and explained my work load slows down on the summer and could I come in then? They postponed it no problem

figaro OP , to android in Fuck yeah, r/android is still on lockdown

For the record, I know this because I’m going through my old comments and turning them into ads for lemmy 😅

Jcb2016 , to android in Fuck yeah, r/android is still on lockdown

Bet them mods used Rif :P

xtapa , to linux in Linux for the Airheaded Layman?

I’ve been in your shoes a few months ago. I tried a few distros in VMs and ended up using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. It comes with different GUIs and I decided for KDE. As a beginner TW helped me with the built in snapshots mechanism. So before I did anything, I took a snapshot, did it, and if I fucked up, I could easily rollback and try again. Since TW is a rolling release, I now make a snapshot before and after the system update So I always have some stable Rollback snapshots. Gives me so much safety to fiddle around and learn more about Linux. Been loving it so far.

Make heavy use of ChatGPT. I’ve been chatting about Linux with it for months now.

thedarkfly , to asklemmy in Do you use adblock? Why? Why not?

Of course. And I’ll continue to do so as long as advertisement is detrimental to my online experience. If it wastes my time by forcing me to watch an ad before a video, if it distracts me from reading a text because of animations, if it tries to scam or shock me, I’m better off blocking it. I’m not against advertisement as communication that a useful product or service exists, I’m against advertisement abuse and greed.

I’ll happily pay for, donate to, or otherwise support services important to me that need and deserve it.

marvin , to asklemmy in People around the world, do you drink tap water without boiling?

Berlin, Germany: we drink water straight from the tap. It’s free and delicious. If you don’t feel like drinking tap, just drink a “Berliner Rohrperle”. It’s the same thing with a fancier name, because our tap water is awesome.

Nowadays we even have public drinking fountains dotted around the city.

Independent_Node , to asklemmy in What are your top 5 movies of all time?
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Sorcerer
  • Silent Running
  • The Omega Man
  • Primer

Bonus: Trancers/Jack Deth movies.

outcide , to selfhosted in What are things you would rather host on a VPS as opposed to a local machine?
@outcide@kbin.social avatar

Services that need a lot of storage, I host at home (Gonic, Jellyfin, Audiobook Shelf etc). Services where I care about availability when I'm away from home, I host on a VPS (Vaultwarden, Synapse, Wordpress, DokuWiki etc).

designated_fridge , to android in Fuck yeah, r/android is still on lockdown

Makes a lot of sense since it’s a sub for power users. The proportion of 3rd party app users is probably among the highest at Reddit

nekomusumeninaritai , to programmerhumor in I have never posted on Lemmy

The comment with this comment’s UID in Lemmy’s comment database is not deducible from the Lemmy axioms. There! Out-nerded you 😜. (Please don’t call me on the details. Please don’t call me on the details. 🤞)

Hovenko , to gaming in What game launchers do you use?
@Hovenko@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Lutris and steam mostly. Sad that Lunix users get no love from GOG

jakakatune , to nostupidquestions in Will Lemmy posts be searchable on Google?

I am surprised noone mentioned fedi-search.com . It’s working pretty well. Full credit to Benjamin Pryor for this

shapesandstuff , to gaming in GOOD games with female protagonists?

Whoa whoa whats wrong with Senua?

Mandy OP ,

id rather not get lynched, thank you very much

shapesandstuff ,

Lol I’m genuinely curious. Its at the top of my “to play” pile since I’ve heard so much good about it.

So if there’s any fair warning to temper my expectations…

Mandy OP ,

algitht than if you like a nicely structured story than stay away its purposely confusing to “portray a certain type of mental illness”, which i call bullhog on, a confusing mess is a confusing mess

combat i find too slow the game is generally boring to actually play

like it wanted to be an art project so bad bad just had to attach a game to it
