Sample batch two is the correct way to do it with one exception the date mechanism. YYYY.MM.DD is the correct format that should always be used in any naming convention.

The best setup I’ve ever seen was: YYYY.MM.DD - LTxx example 2014.07.15 - 1804 LT was the lab tech # and xx was the sample # associated with the lab tech and date.

pyrflie ,

As someone who lived through Y2K not using 4 digits for year just makes me itchy. The rest would be fantastic for a large multi building setup like Mayo.

mnemonicmonkeys ,

Until you have more than 100 lab techs

Wolf314159 ,

But you can represent up to 999 lab techs with only 1 more digit. Or 946 lab techs with just 2 alpha numeric characters. Heck just 2 letters gets you 676 combinations. About 17,000 combos with 3 letters and more than 40,000 if you use 3 alphanumeric characters.

OgdenTO , to startrek in In part because it reminds me of TOS:”The Cage”, I’m hooked on *The Prisoner*

I was slow to warm up to The Prisoner when I started watching it, but The Schizoid Man, episode 5, won me over. What a fantastic premise and execution.

Loved that one too.

Fun fact: The TNG episode of the same name was originally intended to star Patrick McGoohan as Ira Graves.

That is a fun fact!

More fun than, “I’m gonna rip your eyes out!”, anyhow.

Don’t some birds vomit to feed their young? So this bird is just preparing the meal so it’s nice and ready when it gets home!

It’s symbiotic guys, the sarlaac obviously gives you nutrients to keep you alive as it extracts nutrients it needs.

Like carbon dioxide and oxygen from plants.

I’ve subscribed, but if the first three were any indication of the future, I’m not going to be very helpful.

bloodfart , to memes in Who ever thought it sounded good this way? I think it's because headphones weren't widely used back then.

The early days of stereo (which is what you’re talking about, the recordings of 70s which aren’t using stereo as an “effect” almost universally have the vocals panned to the center. The old way to take the vocals out of a recording was to adjust how much of the signal present equally on both channels was allowed to be played) were all about two things: backwards compatibility with mono systems and giving people with stereo systems a recognizable effect no matter what goofy system they had.

Wild panning accomplishes both goals.

Studio engineering that used the stereo format to create the illusion of a room or capture the sound of the room the players were playing in wasn’t developed yet and came from the experimental stereo recordings that sound crazy now like silver apples of the moon.

im a piers anthoy fan and his incarnation of immortality series is his known magnus opa but the geodesy serries is the real one. foundation was isaac asimovs but he ends up sorta combining a bunch of his work into all one mega world. his ip is really undervalued. nine princes of amber for zelazny. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever for donaldson. river of the dancing gods is neat. oh there are many really

potentiallynotfelix , to nostupidquestions in Potential downsides of buying a brand new soft-unlocked (carrier-unlocked) phone?

DO NOT BUY FROM VERIZON if you want to unlock your bootloader. This also applies to Rogers in Canada and EE in the UK. They will force your bootloader to be locked for life, creating more e-waste. This sounds sketchy, needing to keep a phone on the same Android install to be unlocked. I would not advise you to buy this device, because I’ve never heard of this phenomenon. I can’t say for sure, but it sounds like the seller may have installed malicious apps that will be removed if the device is factory reset, so the sellers wants you to not reset it in order to keep the malicious app on the system. This is just a guess, and this could be a new scummy thing created by carriers to keep their customers attached to them.

Do infections count as a loss? If I get an infection from one and die, does that mean I couldn’t take them on? Also, is it one at a time or all of them coming at me.
