Not my field, but I don't think it's even possible to really pinpoint "the" most recent evolutionary step, not to mention being able to define "step" in an incredibly slow variable with multiple layers of continuity (individual, population, and whole species levels).
But I would say that it is very recent for sure, as lactase persistence is a trait that really only started (above "noise" level stochastic mutations in the population) when we started using dairy some 6000 years ago because of selection pressure.
It would have been inclusive to allow for Arabian, Greek, Latin and Hebrew. And it would have been epic to see an Arabic response to a Greek post citing a Latin quote.
Slackware 3.0, so must have been late 1995 to early/mid 1996. It was included with the book Linux Unleashed, I believe.
I recall having to rebuild the kernel to get sound drivers working (voxware, if I recall). I can’t remember if they were included with the kernel, or if I had to patch it. I followed the directions in the book, presumably including updating LILO, and it actually worked. I think that if I broke the kernel, there’s a good chance I’d’ve given up on Linux at that point, so good thing it worked first try!
Word of mouth marketing is the best strategy right now. Look how lemmy user base spiked in recent days. More people will look for alternatives after 3rd party apps stops working on July 1st. In the meantime, spread the word on reddit.
The mod of that community is the mod of this community, and there’s a link to that community in the sidebar. I think activity will probably mostly be on that community.
Also, as an aside, I appreciate Divide by Zer0’s willingness to make a specifically piracy-friendly instance. It takes a lot of the “heat” off of individual instance managers who may not want to take a stance on piracy.
The Interfaith Esperanto Committee strongly objected, or at least that’s what it sounded like, but nobody else speaks Esperanto so they might have just been upset that lunch was late.
