Looks like they strapped a massive turbo onto a tiny boat. That’s gonna make some power!

@koncertejo@lemmy.ml avatar

I want to play either Skyrim or Breath of the Wild for the first time again, knowing nothing about what’s out there to be discovered or the limits of the sandbox. Those games cast a special spell in their first few dozen hours before you know where the boundaries of the world are.

i haven’t played skyrim since the last DLC was released, whatever that was. maybe my memory is sufficiently wiped at this point

thethirdobject , to nostupidquestions in Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference?

It’s funny I litterally just finished an episode of Search Engine, the ‘new’ PJ Vogt podcast, where that’s the actual question. It was the May 3rd episode, and they’re interviewing a researcher on the topic, etc.

an_onanist , to nostupidquestions in Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference?

I predicted in about 10 years disclaimers at the beginning will include, ‘This show depicts murder. Neither the show’s creators producers or actors condone the taking of another human life.’

solrize ,

They need “This show depicts stupidity” but they will never have it.

The easiest approach would likely be “scouting” on behalf of an associate, perhaps they couldn’t make it and sent you. Take lots of pictures for your associate, and you’re not personally involved with the purchase makes it easier to handwave questions.

If you insist on pretending to be rich keep discussion light, talk about potential renovations, take pictures to send to your designer. Ask about the history of the home, dig for unique characteristics. Inquire about the area and what kind of “crowds” to expect. Don’t dress too fancy, don’t pull up in a 09 civic (park around the block and walk), and if they ask, you made a small fortune trading crypto.

cm0002 ,

This is the perfect answer OP, a rich person would most likely never want to see a place like this in person, they’d “send someone”

Boinkage , to nostupidquestions in Why would someone desire a pension instead of a 401k?

Immune to market fluctuations. Based on years working and salary so if you worked a long time then retired and lived for a long time you may get more money than if you had a bag of cash in the market. It lasts until you die and your spouse can inherit it so it provides stability for you and your partner for the rest of your lives instead of having to guess how many more years you’re going to live and dividing your savings by number of years left. Removes that stress of outliving your guess and running out of cash.

kersploosh , to nostupidquestions in Why would someone desire a pension instead of a 401k?
@kersploosh@sh.itjust.works avatar

In theory a pension is stable, guaranteed income. The employer promises a monthly or annual payment for life, and they manage a pool of money to make sure you get that payment regardless of whether the market goes up or down. People like stability.

With a 401k you take on the market risk yourself. If the market tanks (2000 and 2008 come to mind) then your retirement funds are suddenly worth less and your payments to yourself (distributions) go down. Of course, if the market is hot you can also direct your investments to try and ride the wave. Greater risk means greater (potential) reward.

401k’s also have required minimum distributions that kick in as you get older. If you live long enough you will reach a point where you have been forced to drain the whole thing into your regular bank account. Then it’s time for another plan.

Next plan: robot legs

taiyang , to asklemmy in People who grew up in Manhattan (or other heavily urbanised area), how did your childhood look like?

In LA, my situation was mostly playing video games at friends’ homes after school. I’ve taken buses since I was in middle school, though, and had a key to my home. That said, my dad is and was an abusive alcoholic, so I generally stayed out as long as possible.

Mind you, how unsafe the city is isn’t really true in many neighborhoods, especially if you’re with other teens. You can always hang out at various locations like malls, parks, the beach, library or at school. You have a lot of options in the city, especially if you’re willing to take a bus or bike places. I had friends who volunteered for Heal the Bay, for instance.

CaptainBasculin , (edited ) to asklemmy in What are questions that will make it sound like I can afford a million euro house?

Questions to ask if you feel like it:

How much does an average apartment go by in rent around this area? (This’ll create the assumption that you’ll buy it all and put all apartments to rent)

How’s the neighborhood? How noisy is it on a scale of 1-10?

Are there spaces to park multiple cars?

DjMeas , to asklemmy in What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack?

Using shift + scroll wheel to horizontally scroll in a UI. Whenever I see my project manager going all the way to the bottom of the application and dragging the scrollbars to move horizontally it just kills me a bit inside haha.

dubyakay ,

Horizontal scrolling with shift + scroll wheel is so slow compared to dragging the bar though.

onwardknave ,

Which is what middle mouse button scrolling is for… horizontally or vertically, and fast, too.

dubyakay ,

I wish that worked everywhere, but it doesn’t.

Hmm maybe shift+middle button can override it on certain UIS.
