From my experience, those discussions only happen when Distros are compared.

When I’m talking to other Linux people, there has never been any competition, and as long as you are using Linux you are a bro.

Konraddo , to selfhosted in Best Music Library with subsonic API?

Agreed that there’s no all-in-one solution to play local music and music on Spotify (if I’m a premium user). I vaguely recall there’s a solution to automate playing Spotify music and record it in real-time (since you cannot download music directly) but it seemed too troublesome, so I eventually chose spot-dl4 to download music from YouTube using Spotify playlist, then the folder got imported into Lidarr/Navidrome, then my Symfonium on Android connects to Navidrome to get the songs.

It’s quite a bit of manual work to add songs to a separate playlist if I like something on Spotify then use spot-dl4 to do the download. At least, I successfully keep a copy of my favourite songs on my server.

…all that and you don’t even mention that he’s been an open russian asset for eight years?..

…the blunt truth is that he’s in too deep, as are most of the remaining republican party, and the only way to keep their heads at this point is to double-down on seizing the apparatus of state to dismiss their criminal culpability…

themeatbridge , to asklemmy in What is your criteria based on which you feel something someone says calls for proof or not?

Why do you think you can’t prove Gengis Khan existed?

Claims need proof when there is a call to action. It doesn’t matter to me if you’re from an island or a small town or a big city, unless you’re giving me directions. If you make an extraordinary claim, and you want me to believe you, then I’ll need proof. If you make a mundane claim, then what the fuck do I care if you’re lying? If you claim to have a disease, I’m going to believe you because I’m not a doctor and it costs me nothing to take you at your word.

If you shout “Run, something bad is coming!” I might feel foolish and angry if I later learn you were lying, but I’d rather be foolish and angry than injured or dead. Proof is a luxury when time is of the essence, doubly so when safety is at risk.

There might be some specific nuances to quibnle over, but generally I think we could reach consensus on the guidelines I described.

CaptainBasculin , (edited ) to asklemmy in How much money would it take for you to never listen to your favourite artist again?

My favourite artist changes every 2-3 years, as i fill my music library with more songs. So, I’ll have to give it that much time before i find another artist as my favourite. Why not? I’d take it for like 5000.

Thunderbird’s not bad, but I usually use web stuff.

I have an existing iCloud e-mail that I haven’t had the time to switch off of. I then use G-Mail for school stuff - since I’ve signed away my soul to Google anyway, might as well use what they have to offer.

Maybe one day, I’ll start my own personal e-mail utopia, nut that day is not today.

tiefling , to asklemmy in How much money would it take for you to never listen to your favourite artist again?

I don’t have a single favorite artist, I have dozens. So if you ask me to stop listening to one, really not that much.

Hell, I’ve willingly done it before when they turned problematic, like with Crystal Castles

not making her talking points about her race or gender like Hillary

The difference between someone who lived the struggle and someone who was just trying to represent it.

weeeeum , to asklemmy in What is a low technology you really love ?

Hand tool woodworking. It’s amazing what you can make without a single electron. Its also amazing to feel the tools, the resistance and subtle vibrations as you use them. Like an extension of your own body. I love chiseling, especially large mortises. Hearing that sharp, deep thud, and seeing it sink in as it bites into the wood is so satisfying. Especially when using metal hammers, they are so responsive.

I love sawing, especially when relaxed and working at a slow pace, seeing all the sawdust fly out with each stroke. Sawing isn’t fun when working on difficult pieces of wood, when working in a relaxed manner with softwood, the hoarse sounds of the saw starts to sound like purring and it begins to cut exceptionally well.

I love the finish of handplanes, so smooth it becomes water resistant.

Overall very spiritual and relaxing (as relaxing as you allow it to be at least)

chameleon , to gaming in What games would you recommend others to just play on easy difficulty
@chameleon@fedia.io avatar

NieR Automata, for basically the same reasons. Hard mode is filled with instakills everywhere and is really just a damage multiplier, so you have to be the right kind of person for that. If you're not, Normal is probably already fairly easy because of all the auto-heals, but the pacing can be a bit slow for something where most enemies aren't dangerous. Might as well play Easy and play for the story.

The fear of dying in prison. After being publicly humiliated. Again.

littlecolt , to nostupidquestions in How do you set up wake up alarm and not miss it ?

Despite the name being stupid, Alarm Clock Extreme is a great app. I paid for it years ago, and have recently paid for it again due to it being bought out by another company. I do not feel cheated by this fact. It’s been worth it.
